His friends were who-knew-where. Frankly, Grinch loved the solitude, and it was nice to have it now, especially with Bowser booming around and two others that occasionally bothered him.
Ah, and to have a meal without interruption, or having to give some of it away! What a glorious thing. He could eat, be filled, and have left-overs even.
Yes, yes, he was so pleased with today that Grinch was even purring slightly between bites of his meal.

Aidan runs after a mouse trying desperatly to catch it. He darts and zigzags until it ducks down into a hole. He scrammbles and tries to grab it, but his paw can't fit into the hole. He frowns as his little stomach growls. "I can't catch anything!"
He sighs and wanders around a while feeling frustrated. He was just too young to catch a meal for himself. And a mouse isn't exactly something he'd like.

The cub was near enough that Grinch heard him, but far enough away that he figured with was Phoenix Shelley making a statement and his voice changed a bit by the wind, "Catch yourself a cold!" Grinch hollered back.
If he really wanted something, he'd come find him.

Aidan looks up and walks over to the big green lion that just yelled at him. "I don't wanna get sick though..." He sits near him and looks up at him, looking a bit pitiful. "Your a big lion. Your probably real strong." He attempts to smile but smells the food. He looks at the meat, but looks away knowing it isn't his.

.... It was another cub ....
How did these things get themselves wandering this way? Was there some great ethereal lioness bearing cubs and dropping them off? Grinch huffed and made a displeased sound, and tore at the meat, growling a bit as he did so, and then tossed the chunk he'd just pulled out at the cub. Just a little too forceful so that it smacked him, "Go ahead, eat that. Get your strength, and then tell me where your mother is. Irrespon---"
Grinch grumbled as he took another bite, and made grumbly sounds the whole time he chewed.

Aidan yelps when the meat hits him, knocking him over onto his back. He blinks back tears and gets up. "If you don't like me, tell me. Don't smack me with food!" He stands up and starts to walk off. "Oh...i..don't have a mama...." His tail moves between his legs and his ears lower.

Uuuughh! ANOTHER ONE!!!
It took just one leap for Grinch to find himself on the other side of the cub, "I told you to eat," He informed him, this time the growl was out of his voice, but neither was there anything affectionate. He picked him up by the scruff of the neck and dropped him back facing the food, "Eat and don't cry, boy." He licked Aidan once to clean the blood that had gotten on him off, then nosed him toward the food, "Hurry up before it runs away from you too."
He snorted then turned back to finish his own meal, his mind whirling. They couldn't keep another cub, but they didn't know too many lionesses and they'd already tried to get rid of Phoenix Shelley with several of those they'd found. Doing so with a second cub would just be suspicious. But...they couldn't have another cub! Not at HIS den!

Aidan growls and shows his little claws when the bigger lion lifts him by the scruff of his neck. He retracts his claws when he is put back down, then starts to eat the chunk of meat when the lion tells him to. He scarfs down the meat, obvious he hadn't eaten in maybe a day or two.
Once he finishes he looks up at the bigger lion. "Thank you...my name's Aidan." He blinks, smiling a little. "I like the color of your fur."

Grinch observed Aidan as they both ate, and now sat back. "Yeah? I like your spirit. I am Grinch. No mother, hmm? No family at all?" He asked, "How'd that happen?"
He sighed and wandered over, giving Aidan another few licks to clean his forehead off, "You act like you've never eaten before." It was a grumble.

Aidan smiles hearing Grinch's compliment. The frown returns though rather quickly. "Nobody at all...no mama...no papa...no sisters or brothers....maybe they didn't like me..."
He grunts and bats at the green lion's head when he licks his forehead. "What're ya doin'?" He blinks and looks up nodding. "I haven't eaten since..."He counts his claws. "Uh...this many." He holds up two claws so Grinch can see.

"You were dirty, and I don't think your tongue reaches your forehead." Grinch snorted, "Unless you've got a really big tongue. No nothing, huh? Not even charisma. Go figure. Well, I guess I'll have to get you a family."
Grinch huffed and looked around and his eyebrows sunk as he thought about that.
There were no lions around to give this thing away too.
He looked back down at the cub, "What kind of family do you want?"
Maybe Ilori would be able to scare one up for the thing.

"Fine..." He looks up at Grinch and starts to relax, feeling oddly comfortable around the green lion. "You can do that? Really?" He smiles brightly, eyes shimmering with delight. His tail swishes as he answers Grinch's question without needing to think. "I want a papa! And maybe a mama....but i really want a papa...."

"Well, I don't know if I can, but I can try," Grinch shrugged, then made a face, "A papa?" He had never heard of Ilori talk about a lion, and Grinch himself didn't know any other than those he lived with, "You don't want a mother? Funny little cub...but I guess boys go with boys."
He snorted, "Do you want a really, big, hulking lion that thinks he's a king?" His mouth twisted into a smile. It'd be funny to see Bowser try to be a father to anything. "Come on."
Grinch turned around and started to amble away--he wasn't sure where he was going, but it was in the general direction of downwards.

Aidan gets up and follows behind Grinch. "I have an idea!" He trots up past the bigger lion and grins. "Your so big and cool...you cleaned my forehead and gave me food. Maybe you could be my papa?" He sits down infront of Grinch, his tail swishing back and forth, his eyes full of admiration.
"I can tell you'd be the best papa in the world! And your green like me too!" He moves closer nuzzling Grinch's paw, smiling brightly.

Grinch paused when Aidan announced he had an idea, a little surprised at that. He raised an eyebrow at him. The other cub had never in is life had an idea of his own, and Grinch had just figured cubs were stunted like that.
"What, me?" Hoooo, what an idea! Grinch's eyebrows flew up and he gave the cub an incredulous look. Yes, cubs were indeed stunted!
"I am green like you, but I don't have vines, and I have floppy paws," Grinch pulled the paw Aidan had nuzzled and held it up for him to see, the very, very long fingers and fur relaxed and drooping down, then he curled them up in a shell form, "Not like you. And I am no pa! I don't give gifts or stand noises or do Christmas. I am no pa, I am not!"
"I know what we'll do, we'll find you a ma, and then you'll see, I am no pa." He nodded, "Come along, boy, I show you, then you'll see."
