Okay, for those of you in BC, you probably know that the teachers are striking and it was announced a couple weeks ago that we might be out of school for up to three months. The teachers *say* this won't effect anything and we'll all pass to the next grade, but if they don't hold up, we might not move forward a year.

What does everyone think of this strike?

Personally, I hate it. My dad's a high school teacher, so if worst comes to worst, we won't have any income for three months. Besides that, I'd feel sorry for the grade 12s that don't get to graduate or don't get a graduation ceremony. How would you feel if you were the only graduating class not to get a ceremony?

Anyway, I just wanted to hear what everyone else thought about it.

Well, when I read the first couple of sentences, I was going to post yay, but finsihing it, I will not.

I see it as a kind of good-bad thing, because I'l actually starting to like school now. Yeah, 'le-gasp' all you want. I do like school. =D

I absolutely adore school. Without it, I would never be where I am today and so involved with theater and singing and my pursuit of becoming a Genetic Counselor.
I would so protest.

The three month thing would most likely not be happening. They'd almost have to hold everyone back a year because of it, there would be no spring, summer, or winter breaks.

I know that my teacher will be leaving for a week at one point or another.... as part of Job Action, I think it's 10 teachers at a time will take a week off, plus pro-d's and several clubs are gonna go. In fact, all clubs are gonna go eventually, so yeah.

Up to three months if worse comes to worse, but I dont think that they can do that, teaching is an essential service, they'd get aressted 3nodding

Nah, they said that they'd manage to catch us up for three months worth. Which, as my mom pointed out, was incredibly stupid, because they just admitted that a third of their job is expendable. Not a point you want to be implying if you're trying to get more money.

.@.@ It's not about the money!!!!

The thing with Centennial Teachers is the Class sizes, Parashar said that if they wanted to get rich, the would have been Doctors. What they want are Class sizes to go down (You've got the Chemistry classes, built to fit 24 students, holding 34. People are working in chemical hoods!) and the Specail needs courses (They're getting laid off all the time) to stay where they are.

On the Centennial front, it's not about the money. Elsewhere, I cant say whee .

Yeah... actually, I just heard the same thing from the teachers today, and I'm trying to decide where I stand. You know there are over 40 students in some of the senior science classes? Yeah, it's not so much about the money here, too, and some of the teachers have a lot on the line. My art teacher, for example; her husband is out of work and if this strike goes on for longer than a few days, she'll have to sell her car and some of her belongings.

Yeah, so.. I'm thinking it over again now.

Newman said that at Cent, they wanted class sizes no larger the 28. I think we have about 32 students in our class right now.

eek Wow. I never thought you'd say that.

Also, we were all right, as long as you keep on top of your work. School can be fun. surprised But if you're constantly handing in things late and staying up till 3 to finish your homework, you get frustrated and stressed and of course that's no fun.

I even like school. I just don't like having to do PE first thing in the morning. It's a pain in the a**. mad xd

I had to do that last year... Not fun.

School is ok. It's just the work I hate.... (I'm lazy. What can I say? xd )
