Njalo padded along the savannah, contemplating his recent run-ins with gods. There weren't many, so it didn't take long. He had met only two thus far in his life, and that wasn't nearly enough to satisfy him. He needed to meet more, and a strange hunger boiled up inside him. He felt like he was starving, except it wasn't for food--it was for knowledge, or power, or some combination. The desire grew, and he felt physical pain. He stopped walking, but stood, trying to control this twisted eagerness of his. He spotted a bush nearby, and hobbled into it's shade. He lay down there, and considered the possibility that the day was just so hot that his brain couldn't function properly. No, it wasn't that hot, but Njalo did not want to admit that this thirst was solely his fault, or natural ailment, depending on the way you looked at it.

Njalo soon fell into a half sleep, and he imagined himself in the midst of the God's Haven, though perfectly alive. And, glancing at his back, he realized he had wings. He soared around at chatted with various imaginary gods and goddesses, but because he couldn't know how they would answer his questions, he conversed in gibberish with the supernatural beings, and yet felt fulfilled as if he had memorized every word they had spoken and found meaning in life. He was happy.

His dream changed. He no longer had wings, and gods and mortals alike were teasing him, antagonizing him, and saying that he wasn't worth a single hair off their mane. Njalo cried, in his dream, yet his tears also splashed against the dry dirt of the savannah.

He awoke with a start, and though he mentally grasped for the first dream, it was gone, and would not return. Njalo sighed and stared off into space, no longer able to sleep, but unsure if he was really awake.

Oh he was awake, luckily perhaps, for her at least. The large jet black goddess moved across the savannah, a shining beacon in the daylight. Her coat as black as the ace of spades, shimmered with health and markings as white as a ghost which glowed an eerie, strange red.

Nearly every inch of her large body possessed an item of it's own, upon her shoulders lay silks and furs, each ear boasted many earrings of gold, silver and gems, upon her head three horns glistened, tipped with the brightest of golds and even her wings shimmered with tiny trinkets.

She had never been one to ask for anything, she took, or bartered or convinced, to ask would be below her station, she was after all, greed, the goddess of all those whom wanted more than anything.

This one, this lion of soft green, wanted for something, she wasn't quite sure what she could give him but she knew she would talk it out of him. Approaching without a moments hesitation she lay down in the shade next to him without introducing herself, she makes herself comfortable, her body fanning out around her hiding her paws, her forefeet folded under the bulk of her chest, making her look like a very large, very black, very pleased house cat.

"You called me my dahling?" She purrs turning her gaze upon the young male. Even for a goddess she was huge, her body both vertically and horizontally larger than even a male, she was large, in charge and beautiful to many with her glistening trinkets. She wondered how this one would react.

Njalo's first reaction the the enormous being entering his field of view was, quite simply, "I'm definitely asleep." When she approached and addressed him however, he was astonished to find he could comprehend her words, unlike those of the gods in his dreams.

"I--uh--are you real?" Shoot, that's not what he meant to say at all. "What I meant--what I meant was... did I call for you? I mean yes. Well. I can't... It's a pleasurable surprise indeed to see a creature of your delightful caliber here. I--what can I do to serve you?" Njalo finished lamely. His fascination with her trinkets only added to the befuddlement that currently retarded his speech. After gaping for a probably-too-long amount of time, the green lion realized that the bejeweled goddess might take his staring as rude, so he looked pointedly at the ground.

In attempt to break the awkward atmosphere that he thought he must be making, the green cat meekly added, "My name is Njalo'Umdlalo, though you may of course call me whatever you so desire. What shall I call Your Magnificence?" As he spoke, he pulled himself into a sort of low bow, although since he was already lying down, it looked more like a head bob.

Ubuge couldn't help but utter a small, low chuckle. It had been a while since she had been grovelled to so. Some did of course worship her and they were her people, but this one clearly simply revered the gods. Not that she shouldn't be praised above all other gods, obviously, but she knew a god lover when she saw one. "Of course I am real dahling, no mortal could dream up such a wonderful goddess as me." She chuckles, quite flattered that he was so star struck by her presence. She did so enjoy being admired.

"One goes by the name of Ubuge little mortal." She purrs a deep rumbling sound which echoed in her chest. Her wings moved, first the black pair, then the white, creating a tiny musical tinkling sound as the feathers on her wings touched and in turn made her hundreds of trinkets tap together.

"Yes my little love, you called me forth, I felt your deep want and have come to your aide, now tell me little green one, what is it that I can help you with hmm?" She smiles, a perfectly innocent smile, her dark, piggy eyes vanishing almost in the folds of her cheeks. "What is is that this goddess can grant you?" She lifts a paw from under her bulk then flashing the gems and gold upon her paw and wrist, it seemed more had appeared since she had hidden away that bejewelled appendage and that was true, Ubuge had many things that she could bedeck her body with when she wished to.

"No, of course not, I couldn't... could never imagine so great a presence," Njalo muttered hurriedly, ashamed that he may have insulted Ubuge. His wide eyes glanced nervously up at her, and it somewhat relieved him that there did not seem to be a long-lasting anger at his words.

The music her wings made caused Njalo to c**k his head for a moment; he couldn't help but be momentarily distracted as he considered if she had had them done on purpose to have that exact musical tune, and if there was any significance. Tugged back into the present by her words, Njalo mumbled, "It is a pleasure to meet you, Great Ubuge."

Deep want? She... knew how he was feeling? Truly, a remarkable being! "I only wanted... I don't really know; I mean I know I wanted to meet more gods--you've already helped there--but really, I just want. I know I want knowledge, or I wouldn't seek you out, but it's almost more than that. It's hard to describe. It's as though I want to know, and know forever. It doesn't make sense. I never make sense. I'm so sorry," Njalo rambled. His thoughts never came out right. This may have originated from the fact that they were never processed or organized correctly in the first place. Whatever the system, it resulted in him pathetically trying to explain his mindset to a creature both grander and more intelligent than he.

"I guess," he said more confidently, "I want to have more lasting importance than I do now." There; that was concise, right?

Ubuge listened quietly as the young male rambled at her, it was quite amusing really, listening to one so confused by his own wants that he couldn't put his words in order. She had met many in her time whom sort of knew what they wanted but didn't quite know what they wanted to the point of it being a true form of greed. This one, this young male, well he had enough to attract her attention so perhaps she could help steer his course, for a price.

"Lasting importance dahling? You wish to be a lord of a land? The great kings are remembered for their importance long after they shrug their mortal coils, or perhaps you simply require a crown for a short time, ambition my love I can help with but only with the material things of ambition, passion, lust and true ambition are not of my nature but I can provide you with things to help you be remembered"

With a smirk she reached out and touched the young male bedecking his body in jewellery with that touch. It was but an illusion but one she had tempted many with in the past. These things weren't real but they could be if he desired them enough. "Grandeur is the first step to glory, to remembrance." She smiles a beautiful smile, a smile which buried her dark, shimmering eyes. Her gifts always came at a price and for some it was too high, but for others it was just right.

"A king?" That sounded lucrative, but Njalo doubted he would ever be able to confidently make decisions, as Primitus had told him leaders often have to do. Still, maybe a leading position would be the key to being remembered. If it were, he only hoped he would be remembered for the right thing.

But at the moment, he wasn't in a pride, and there was no access to a position of power. Njalo cringed when the goddess reached out to tap him, clearly intimidated by her enormous size and (especially in his mind) her enormous power.

The lion had never been one for jewelry, but the goddess's gold shone like none he had seen before. And wearing some of it, he did feel... rather special. Tempted, he asked, "I could have this?"

If a goddess said he needed it, well, can goddesses even be wrong?

The deep dark eyes, fathomless eyes rested on the young green male, a smile creased her maw and she raised a paw making the illusion vanish. "Of course dahling, but everything has a price." Her pink tongue licks out over her lips and she pulls a breath through her teeth.

"The question my lovely, are you willing to pay it hmm?" She smirks, resting her paws back beneath her large bulk, her ears flicker and she looks the green male over, she wasn't sure how far she could push this one, would he be willing to give the ultimate sacrifice for a few worthless baubauls or would he be cautious about owning a gift from the gods.

"I can only give you something to put you in the right direction my little love, you have to find the way to use it yourself, but shining things attract many." She purrs happily, looking all the more like a giant house cat, the cat that got the cream so to speak. "The decision is yours."

Njalo sat still for a moment, hard at work rationalizing. When he finally spoke, he said, "If everything has a cost, then what would the cost, say, of a feather of yours. I mean, I'd much rather have a part of such a wonderful creature as yourself than gold. Anyone can acquire gold, but only someone who has met you can possibly have one of your feathers."

The green lion eyed Ubuge warily, unsure of whether he was pushing his luck. But it was what he wanted, and he wanted it enough to risk asking. He pawed at the ground, swallowed, then glanced back up. Now that the idea had entered his mind, he really wanted that feather. Njalo ran a quick assessment in order to be ready when Ubuge's answer came: What wouldn't he give for it? Eupe. And that was the only answer that came to mind. He was still fascinated with the winged lions, and the thought keeping a piece of one near to him overshadowed a large part of his already rather empty life.

Ubuge's smile widened as she looked at the young green male, this was going to be easier than she thought. Although she didn't much like giving away parts of herself, a feather was a small price to pay for what she was considering.

"Well my love, you must know that a gods feathers are priceless, they are true gifts from any god." She purses her lips, the illusion of deep thought washing over her face. "Now normally my little dahling, the price of such a thing as one of my feathers would be beyond any mortal reach, but I like you, you're green and rather cute." She chuckles almost playfully, though the look in her piggy eyes was greed, pure, unbridled greed, she was ready for the kill shot, her laughter hiding the dire need she felt in her bones.

"For you my sweetheart, I will give you a feather for the price of your first born cub." She purses her lips "I know it is very high, but I will let you choose which one you want." She rolls slightly displaying the tiny wings closer to Njalo, one pair white, the other black, her own were actually the black pair but few knew that, the white ones had once belonged to charity and contained a little bit of charity, they were not fully her.

"Well my love? what do you say hmm?" She smiles moving her wings slightly to create that tiny tinkling sound once again, the sound of a thousand tiny trinkets working in musical harmony.

Njalo contemplated the offer. A feather... in exchange for a child of his. Logically, he told himself, lion litters were usually larger than a single cub, and certainly the absence of one wouldn't make that much of difference. This idea fought directly against his emotions (which begged of him prudence), but his desire for that feather was too great. The goddess seemed to be making a him a deal, and he had to admit that the opportunity to choose the feather he received was somehow especially tempting... and it wasn't as though she was asking for Eupe--that would triggered a deeper response.

"Okay," he spoke slowly, still mulling the idea over as he answered, "yeah, alright. My first-born cub for that--," he indicated a white feather with a particularly shiny golden bead, "--feather. His immediate hope was that the deal for the feather included the gold, although he didn't really mind either way. He was getting the feather, that's all that mattered.

Could lions even have litters with cheetahs? Njalo didn't know, and he thought, if not, it was unlikely he would have any cubs to give anyhow; his faith to Eupe was unyielding. Well, mostly. To the extent of his knowledge, nothing had resulted from the one exception to that generalization. He, was, however, ill-informed. The lion flicked his tail in anticipation of receiving the gift, his eyes alight with green flames of satisfaction.

The dark lioness gave a grin of satisfaction, plucking the feather from her wing she hands it to the young male. He was a fool, but fools always came to regret their decisions. "Do not think you can escape me young one, I will come and claim your child when the time comes." She winks a delightfully satisfying wink and turns away from him.

"Just remember your promise." She purrs vanishing in a dark flicker of her golden tipped tail. Today had been a good day, she had secured a first born and there was nothing that could stop her from claiming her future prize.
