The air was thick with the energy of magics, the sky a greenish-grey as though a storm was approaching. Though the night was still young, all the animals were silent, waiting with bated breath, their eyes watching the middle of the crooked copse. Surrounded by heavily ingrown trees, their branches intertwining, the Copse was as dark as pitch, but the magic was so thick that the clearing almost felt illuminated by it.
There was a tearing sound, soft but clearly heard all around, and a single piece of paper drifted to the ground, appearing out of thin air. It was an old piece of parchment, soft and worn with age, but the inks upon it were bright and vibrant, as though the image was new while the paper old. It looked almost like... a photograph, and upon closer inspection, if one were to do so, it was almost more akin to an ID. Or even a passport.
How Very Odd. Another item fell from the tear, this time an envelope, thick with many letters. Unlike the passport, it drifted lazily on a puff of air that seemed to be magic itself, and slipped the envelope under the doorstep of one Imriel de Corvidae. The envelope was plain and yellowed, the seal dark red and quite intricate.
Though the tear did not seem malicious, a great many bits of paper fell out of it, including a large book that practically hummed with knowledge, and one could assume that something quite out of the ordinary was about to begin.
Welcome to the world of the Ursari, still a secretive world with only the slightest ties to Gaia. For the moment.
This event will feature 4 (with a possible 5th) Ursari to be won. This is the only chance to get characters that will feature in a major plotline, and your only chance to win them before the year is out. These Ursari will be lifemated to one another (Soul Mates) and breeding will be made possible with these couples when it is available.
This is also your only chance for a long while to win an albino/uni.

The Ursari are a nomadic group known for their festivals and fine products. Once a very close supplier of the Ieldi, the Ursari have been forced to sell their wares elsewhere. But times are changing, and the Ursari have returned to our dimension, and are just ready and waiting to sell you their wares.
The Ursari are quite open with their liberal practices, such as having many partners in love, or bartering with maybe a slightly skewed hand in their favor.
They are fun loving, but mostly hard workers. Their festivals are some of the most interesting and compelling parts of their lives.

 There are seven great families that most Ursari can trace their heritage back to, and these great families run almost all of the business found in the caravans. There are several smaller families determined to become great, but they haven't a chance against the powers that currently rule.
Each family is proficient in one certain type of service/goods. Anything that can be sold WILL be sold by the Ursari. Sales are not limited to material goods, or even services. Wishes are fairly popular, as are readings of the future.
Family lines are traced through the mother, and a matriarch is selected in each family to stay in their only stable city to oversee all sales. This location is highly guarded and not much is known of this place. Matriarchs are incredibly powerful, and specially gifted in areas such as the Sight and general magics.
Clan mothers run the caravans, which are effectively nomadic cities. Consisting of between 100 and 1000 Ursari, these Caravans always have a representative from each family in the caravan, but the dynamics are different in each. One family usually dominates each caravan, and the style of the caravan as a whole reflects that. Clan mothers are in charge of the general day to day problems, as well as overseeing anything of import, such as marriages or large purchases. They are also in charge of the family Tomes, smaller copies of the original one found with the Matriarchs.
Children that show particular talent in that family are effectively "traded" in advantageous marriages to different families. Marriages are arranged by the Clan Mothers of each family in the Caravan, with usually little to no input from the parents. While rare, some children are traded between caravans. This is usually only seen if the Ursari in question has a rare talent that needs to be nurtured by a particular Master. Or, even more rarely, there is a Fabled Meeting, and soulmates are found.
Marriages are advantageous to both families, as the Ursari base their entire lives on the barter system. While one family might lose a daughter to another, in time they will gain another. Family lines are criss-crossed and hard to follow, and most refer to females in their family as "sisters" and males "brothers" though they might not be related in any way.
Mercenaries
One of the oldest families, the Ba'al tend to be rowdier than the other Families, and are known for having a good time. They are terrible savers, but glorious spenders, always emptying their coffers as fast as they can fill them. Their roles range from small mercenary groups to lone swordmasters but all are extremely proficient in their area of expertise when it comes to fighting. They are often away from the main caravan, fighting in wars or skirmishes around different worlds. They have a close tie with the Aishe, as well as the Djardi. The Ba'al often fight with the Pitivo. Plants/Healing
The Djardi are some of the quietest and most hardworking Ursari, usually spending their entire lives mixing strange concoctions in a back room, or even setting up shop and healing old wounds and strange diseases. The Djardi feel things intensely, and are often seen weeping for souls lost but also celebrate with fervor and joy. The Djardi are quite a large family, encompassing a broad spectrum of jobs. They rarely make any monetary sums, but are often rich with favors and well-wishes. There is very little infighting in this group. The Djardi seem to get along with all the groups. Metals/Jewels/Blacksmiths
From blacksmiths to fine jewelers, the Pitivo create any manner of objects dealing with metals, minerals, and all manner of things found in the earth. The Pitivo are usually the largest and broadest of all Ursari, often so muscular that they can almost look like an entirely different species. Often stoic and unapproachable, the Pitivo also have the uncanny ability to put the Luminista on edge which is rather hard to do with the Light magic users. The Pitivo get along with the Veduni and have somewhat of a love/hate relationship with the Ba'al. Librarians/Books/Knowledge
The Thetana can at times be quiet sellers of thoughts and yet at the same time be fiery debaters. They are a small group, made up of scribes and librarians with the important task of keeping the Caravan's Tome up to date. They get along with all of the Ursari as they have to be as unpartisan as possible when filling in the histories. Almost all Thetana have separate tasks in combination with the work on the Tome, and most see the Tome as a revered task.  Services/Entertainers/Artists
The Aishe are as a whole, the most torrid and fun of the Ursari. Dancers, singers, musicians, seamstresses; anything that is fun is definitely part of the Aishe's business. The Aishe rather dislike the Thetana, as they find them boring, as with the Djardi, though don't discriminate against them. The Aishe are often the first Ursari that you will be confronted with, as they are often very excited about new places and people. Because they do not sell any merchandise, they depend entirely on new markets. Most Aishe work as mistresses/boytoys if they stay in a city for an extended period of time. White Magic
The Luminista are a very old group, once joined with the Veduni. There was a massive split between the two groups hundreds of years ago, and the two groups dislike each other intensely. The lines between the two groups are sort of blurry, and most Luminista fear for the day that they have to prove that what they do is white magic and not black, as black magic is a far easier job than white. The Luminista have dwindled of late, due to the Veduni's stringent rules, and are desperate to gain new customers. The Luminista get along with all groups save for the Veduni, though many former Luminista have joined the Veduni. Black Magic
Most magic users in the Ursari are Veduni, whose sorcery is often criticized by the other groups as going too far. They have no rules for their own magic, but many for their rival, the Luminista. The Veduni have been trying to gain access to the Tome for years, but it has shockingly disallowed any information from the Veduni from being entered. It is being kept hush-hush by the Thetana under pain of death. The Veduni don't really get along with any group as such.

Welcome to the first Ursari RP contest! This is a new race, so all information is sort of tenuous at best, so pleasseee feel free to ask any questions you might have in this thread.
Part one of the RP contest consists of two things. First, you must fill out a character form for me to look over and approve. Until tomorrow, it is not known whether unis will be available or not (free raffle now has dibs). Right now, the Form is just to be used for me to approve it as something that i can do. I'd like errors with characters (such as wings or human feet) to be removed before we start any RPing.
The second part you need to fill in for Round One is a small RP snippet. This RP cannot go above 1000 words, and needs to show your creativity, grammar and general writing skills. Be aware that the creativity of your character itself does factor in to it. So please, make interesting and compelling characters and designs.

RP FormRP Prompt 1 Your Ursari has not been able to find a master and cannot be considered an adult until she or he does. There are two main types of Masters, Tutors who focus on one apprentice only and Teachers, who focus on a large group of children. With everything in the Ursari world, there are many tiers within Masters, depending on their skill. Why hasn't your Ursari found a Master? How does it make them feel? What do they do to get one? RP Prompt 2 The caravan's matchmaker is a terrifying old Ursari, who will at one time or another, hold a young Ursari's life in her hands. She is usually referred to as Baba, a name that does not suit her well. Your Ursari has been called to her presence to discuss his or her options, which could be good or bad. Why were they called there? How high is your Ursari's stature, and how could this effect the match? How does your Ursari feel about this? Please post your forms in this thread.
