I don't think it's a very good idea...but I know if you lower your center of gravity, you can move faster. I wouldn't attempt a jazz run though.

Well, I'm SUPPOSED to jazz run backwards at one point in Mars, but I just get lower to the ground and take really flippin huge steps to get to my spot. I can't jazz run forwards decently, much less backwards. sweatdrop Good luck with that.

Ah, I hate jazz running. I am really short so it is really hard for me, insanly hard. It doesnt help that the 2 people next to me dont move in time so I run into them and most of the time its me that gets hurt. Stupid freshmen...Im just happy its only for 4 counts, its starts on the right foot though which throws me off.

Someone tried jazz running backwards last year, it didn't work out too well and she ended up hurting her ankle. If you have to go far backwards, just bend your knees a bit and take large steps. It works, trust me.

Seriously, you're not supposed to jazz run backwards at all.
The biggest backwards step you can take is a 6-to-5, maybe a 5-to-5.
Otherwise, there's a huge chance you'll injure yourself.

basically what u guys are telling me is what i normally do. they say i'm one of the best marchers on the field this year, i just don't have good jazz running technique backwards. i do what's called a "squat and go" which is where you bend the front knee and keep the other one straight and take wicked huge steps (btw i'm the shortest person in the band lol except for a couple gals in pit lol i'm a guy too) but they always tell me "TJ don't bend your knees!" or "TAYLOR QUIT BENDING YOUR KNEES YOU IDIOT!!!! DIDN'T YOU HEAR THE JUDGES TAPES?! YOUR A F***ING IDIOT!!!!!!" lol that's my section leader that says the last one. my section leader is abitch. but i can jazz run forwards very well

I'm pretty bad at jazz running, I admit. I had a backwards move in our show last year that was really fast and really far. Lol, in practice one day, I tripped, and rolled over and got back to my feet before the rest of the mellophone line tripped over me. It was so much fun! I kept my mello from being hurt, too.
