Water was one of the myopic nautilus boy's favorite things. It lessened the weight of his heavy shell, and made him feel much more graceful than he usually did, which was to say, it lent him a little bit where he had none. Sinking into the swimming pool up to his nose, Laial gave a bubbling sigh of delight, carrot-colored hair floating around his ears, and he stretched out his tentacles.
The whole pool to himself! It was unprecedented luck, and not something he expected to continue for long, and so he intended to enjoy it. No Heiko with him to nag and whine, either -- he had left her napping in a coiled heap of sleeping pink dragon. It was her fault, Laial supposed, if she was silly enough to fall asleep everywhere. Besides, he intended to go back for her, after he was thoroughly done swimming.

Chath was along the similar lines of thought at the other boy thoug he hadn't noticed Laial yet as he entered the pool area. He too could use the time in the water. He found after helping Orpheus with his skills class that he missed swimming, and needed to do it more often.
He was a bit surprised to see the orange hair leading to a person he never recalled meeting before. He paused standing at the pools edge his towel drapped around his shoulder as he peered at Laial.
"Hello...uh..hope I am not bothering you." he called out as he scanned the water to see if the boy may have his dragon with him. Seeing nothing he was glad he left Keir at home.

Slightly startled, Laial reeled in his tentacles hastily, peering at Chath in puzzlement for a moment. He hadn't met him, but that was okay... Or at least with his poor vision he couldn't tell the difference.
His mouth was still underwater the first time he tried to respond, so he tread water for a moment, lifting his head and sucking a breath of air to reply with a small smile. "Nope, you're not bothering me. It's a big pool." His thin grey arms stretched out a bit, comfortably.

Chath gave a goofy smile although he had no idea the boy couldn't make him out, he dropped his towel on the pool's edge and then went to sit down on the pool edge letting his legs dangle into the water. It felt nice. He peered at the strange boy before him, not that he thought the boy was weird. But he was having a hard time placing his DNA.
He gave a half smile as he then slipped into the water himself. "Sorry I may be a bit dense...but what exactly are you?" he inquired with a chuckle.

"I'm a nautilus," Laial said proudly, using his shell and the air trapped inside it to keep himself afloat as he moved a little closer to see the other. He didn't recognize the brown boy even when he could see him, and tilted his head, wet red hair falling to one side. "What are you?" He didn't splash or anything, only quietly tread water.

Moving around doing the butterfly stroke he stopped a moment to tred water as he was asked a question.
"Oh me? I am a red spotted newt!" he explained happy to have someone to talk to while he swam. He wondered if Geia could swim...with those wings of his he doubted it.
And he wasn't meaning to stare..he was finding the kid quite interesting to look at. A shell and tentacles...and his eyes were strange just like his.
"Your pretty cool, I'm Chath." He finally introduced himself after a moment.

"I'm Laial," he replied, smiling. It was rather genuine, even -- it was a fairly rare occurrence for the usually-snarky nautilus boy. "You're cool, too..." He swam a little closer in his own slow but reliable way, blowing bubbles out behind him in a stream. Still, the other was older than him, and Laial never liked feeling inferior despite himself. "Do you come and swim a lot? 'Cause I wouldn't mind swimming with other people sometimes too..." Just not any birds. An uncomfortable shiver forced itself down Laial's back, and he glanced around myopically. No birds. Good.

Chath watched as Laial swam closer to him, he treded water so he could keep his head above it although he wanted to dunk his head under he wasn't so sure if Laial could breath underwater...though given how he looked he wouldn't of been surprised if he could.
"I havn't been to the pool as much as I would of liked. Keir, my dragon, keeps me pretty busy so I hardly have time to come." He explained with a half shrug.
"How about you?"

"I swim a lot, though I don't come here too much," said Laial, blowing bubbles in the water and smiling proudly. "Heiko and me swim in my dad's pond, in the backyard. Dad doesn't like it because it scares the fish, but Heiko's a dragon and she doesn't listen sometimes... and sometimes she eats one."
The nautilus boy shrugged a bit, squinting at Chath. "Does your dragon listen?"

Chath could of died laughing at the very idea of Keir actually listening to him and behaving. Perhaps the look on his face betrayed his amusement when he finally shook his head as he continued to tred.
"Ha! If I had a nickel for every time Keir did whatever he wanted I'd be a very rich newt by now.." He snorted as he shook his head and gave a sigh. "Keir's a black dragon, he is too proud, strong willed and annoyingly persistent to really listen to anyone. Though .." His tone became a bit endearing as if despite all this he had a certain amount of pride and admiration for the black, "We have come to a certain amount of understanding with each other." He finished with a nod of his head.
"You have a pond too? hehe.....Keir made my mothers small gold fish pond into something that takes up half the yard. Let's just say my mum was not impressed...." he chuckled and he wondered if Keir would want to meet Laial's dragon. He ...somehow doubted it. Keir was surprisingly aggressive when it came to other dragons.
