 Twigs cracked as a very flowery stallion approached a small, quiet pool in the middle of no place in particular. He was very thirsty, but what if somebody was around to see him? Ordinarily, Kusamura avoided potentially public places, choosing to stick to the thicker forests that seemed to spring up around him when he thought hard enough about his own looks. However, there didn't seem to be anybody around this pool. Gradually, the self-conscious stallion relaxed and lowered his head to drink, not daring to look at his reflection, hoping nobody would come across him.

It hadn't been long that Houkyou had arrived in the Northern Islands that he felt he really belonged here, in this place with the waves and the Sea visible from practically everywhere. This was his true home, and where his fortune really could help people.
You see, unlike many of the other Qilin, Houkyou's fortune was special in that it required a certain location to take place. His fortune was that of bountiful fishing. And the thing about fish is, they only live in the sea. In the homeland, where most people lived in-land, what good would his fortune do?
But there was one hitch in his plan - he could make other people happy, but what about himself? He didn't want to be the only Qilin in the Islands.
One day, though, he was walking through the forests of one of the really remote islands when he came across a small pool. What was a pool doing in the middle of a forest? But there was another thing that was more interesting - Another Qilin!
And, man, was he pretty.
Houkyou, though, didn't approach him at first. He stood around instead, lurking in the bushes. He didn't make a true attempt to hide himself (what was the point?), but approaching an unknown Qilin was probably a bad idea. What if it was...a Misfortune in disguise or something? After all, he was almost too pretty.

Kusamura's delicate ears swiveled about as he drank the water as quietly as he could, listening for any others about. He didn't want them to see him; what would they think of a flowery stallion? He was sure this place was isolated... but what was that noise? He knew he'd heard something, but as his head shot up, he couldn't see any strangers. His mane stiff and on end, he warily looked about the clearing, seeking the noisemaker. "Who's there?" he called, a bit less sure of himself than he would have liked.

Oh, shoot. He'd been heard. Well...there wasn't much point in hiding now, was there? Houkyou's voice was a soft croon as he replied, "At ease, dear, it's just me." The Qilin slinked out into the slight clearing, wishing that the pink stripe on his nose would just disappear. At least he wasn't...flowery, though. It could be worse.
But he had to admit, the flowers looked good on him. Houkyou, though, now was at a loss for words - what was there to say? So, instead, he turned his eyes to the water and took a lap.
