For me, I've always known that I preferred to be in control of things, and I've always been protective.
However, I didn't realise this specifically until I had entered a relationship. At which time it was pretty much made apparent by my actions. My sister used to tell me that I act a lot like some of the semes and more 'masculine'(?) guys in mangas she's read, though some offended me (Such as Eiri Yuki who eventually turned at one point into a bitchboy for a woman, I'm not a slave, never will be.), I didn't mind the comparison to others (Like Rei from Mars, though it's not a yaoi or BL).
I didn't actually know that I was seme, or a top, until I was with Tenshi. Though I suppose it was a given seeing as whenever I was shown the mangas, I'd prefer to look at the ukes and I've always been one to notice the appeal of (mental/behavioral) feminine traits.

I knew because being a top is what appeals to me.
Also, nothing turns me on more than a cute butt.
In a relationship I prefer to be the one that is protective, and I love being dominant in bed.
Also, when the High Homo Council gave me my membership card, it said top.

I'm more of a seme on seme kind of guy. Ukes just remind me of females a little too much. Anywhoo....I knew I was a seme because I've always been dominant. I'm incredibly competitive and...well....I love the control. I've been told that you wouldn't be able to tell that I was a gay guy on site; that it would take me to say it for people to believe.

I really didn't find out untill about a year into my relationships with guys. honestly i didn't like the waking up and having my butt hurting thing. Plus I liked being in control alot more. I also like being considered as the stronger in mind person in relatioships too so i kind of fit it better than Uke. and so that is how (my summer vacation) I became seme. 3nodding
