So I know it's way far in advance but I've gotten so excited about the new year that I started thinking about next year.
I already had a plan that I would try out for Drum Major for my senior year way back when I was a fishy and an alternate.
I've looked up to the drum majors and they've been a huge influence. The fact that all three of the drum majors this year are my friends just makes it better.
I'm worried though about favoritism. My BD always tells us he doesn't have favorites but it's pathetically obvious that he does.
I've found that me plus atleast 8 others are trying out for DM next year and I'm the only one out of all of us who isn't a Favorite which scares me because he might judge me because of that which I doubt he will.
I also have to keep in mind that he's gonna want his best players on the feild and I'm not even gonna hide the fact that I would be better off being a drum major.
I'm not bad but I'm not all to good at playing my instrument and I can never really seem to play things just the way he likes. I've been in the lowest ranking band for my whole clarinet career and he's not excatly happy with anyone's marching technique.
But hey. I'm trying out for Drum Major, Woodwind Captain, and Section Leader so I'm bound to get one.
I've been practicing my playing and am 1st chair of 5 at the moment I've been working on my marching and I'm steady getting better, I've been getting conducting tips from my current DMs, I havn't missed a single band practice, and I've been working hard in the classroom and made all A's the past grading period.
Hopefully that says something.
If your trying out tell us about your hopes and fears of being and trying out for DM. Also tell us/me what you've been doing to prepare for tryouts

i am so trying out for junior drum major next year!!! as far as i know, its only going to be me and two other people. my section leader is being so bad this year, i mean im taking care of almost all the stuff that goes on in the pit this year and im not even the co captain for the section so i dont know why i should have to deal with him. the thing with my BD is that she does have a tendency to favorite overe the band kids in my band and ignore the vocal and orchestra kids... wich presents a problem beacuse my orchestra friend is trying out for drum major also.... but idk. i just dont want to deal with my soon to be Ex-section leader... or i might just swich sections and learn another instrument... idk, itll work out though biggrin GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!
