i thought maybe i'd like to post about what we do in our GSA meetings? maybe give ideas for other GSA's, or just inform everyone about upcoming LGBT events and stuff. =]

Wednesday, October 8, 2008:
okay, so we talked about doing t-shirts for national coming out day. it's on saturday, but we were going to celebrate on Friday. we're going to maybe make shirts that say "support love" "coming out day, october 11 2008" and stuff like that. we're gonna pass out fliers and put up posters with facts about coming out rates and suicide rates among LGBT teens
we talked about getting bracelets made for the club. i think rainbow silicon bracelets that say "support love" on em.
we talked about basically getting the word out to kids about the LGBT community, and the dangers intolerance can bring.

We talked again about ordering bracelets! We now plan on buying them for sure. We plan on getting rainbow rubber bracelets with "Support Love" on them. We also discussed selling them to kids around school, for more support. We talked about stuff we can do for the school and the community.
And our GSA has a myspace. I'll get the link on here when i can remember it xD but yea, maybeh you can add it if you want? and I'll get another update in soon. =]

Wednesday, November 12, 2008
So, we made posters for transgender remembrance day [this thursdaaaay!] and then we held a bracelet-making party for the whole club. of course, other people were invited, so a lot of people attended the meeting =]
Next week is the turkey bowl! this is something we made up. it is a series of events in which other clubs from our school compete for the grand prize. it's taking place this wednesday, and i'll tell everyone how that goes. it should be tons of fun!!!
we may also do the thinkb4uspeak campaign. i plan on bringing it to the next meeting and asking for it to be approved and stuff, so we can do it as the next event after transgender remembrance day. =]
next meeting should be next wednesday.

We set up everything for the Turkey Bowl '08 [a competition between a few clubs/orgs at school] i had to leave before it began, but the GSA ended up winning. yay us!!! =D

Today was transgender remembrance day!!! we handed out info slips, they had statistics like the suicide rate of the transgender community and the amount of LGBT students that are harassed at school. we gave out stickers wit hstatistics, too. everything went fairly well =]

[sorry for the late response sweatdrop ] well, yea, i guess there is a transgender remembrance day. hehe, i mean, we;ve been doing it for a couple years now. and for the most part, yes, our school supports the gsa. we had to fight to have it, i heard, but i heard we were the most active club in our school or something. we did the turkey bowl this year, and we try to have meetings every wednesday. the events are fun, especially day of silence in april.

t's been a while! well, this wednesday we basically talked about what we're going to be doing for the next couple of weeks. we began watching the first few minutes of a documentary on Stonewall. we're gonna keep watching a bit each week, so we can have some historical background on gay history in general and on gay human rights. our advisor also gave us some gay magazines to look at, "The Advocate" and "equality" our next meeting is this wednesday and we plan on watching some more of the documentary. =]

Soooo, we had a meeting before but i didn't update then, buuut on this day,
we discussed Day of Silence and making a booth for the day before it. This way, we can give info to poeple before day of silence, cos day of we won't be talking. we also discussed buying Day of Silence stuff like t-shirts and whatnot. I think we talked about getting a speaker from our local LGBT center to come and speak at a meeting [it's good to look onlione to see if you have an LGBT center in your community, cos they have neat activities and it's a cool place to meet people. i haven't been yet, but that's cos of obvious issues with getting parental permission =/] sooo yea, i'll letcha know about the next update and stuff. we may need suggestion, too.

What exactly is it that you do in the GSA? Is SKSS's GSA good?
I'm coming out next year, in grade 8, so, does anybody here got to South Kam?

we discuss LGBT issues and try to teach other kids in the school about tolerance and stuff. We talk amongst ourselves about such issues, and how we feel about the atmosphere and stuff.
i'm not sure what that is =/
