"La la la, doot doot doo~!" Baobab sang, digging a hole in the dirt. Her face was beaming with joy in her play and her eyes seemed to sparkle. Though her paws were digging deep into the earth and flying all over her, the dirt wasn't very visible because of how dark brown Baobab's fur was. This was the pup's advantage since she loved to get dirty.
Stepping away from the hole suddenly, Baobab examined her work. She tilted her head to the left, then right, then she smiled and nodded. In her eyes, it was a good hole. Then, she moved off a bit away from the hole and began to dig another one. Behind her were about twenty holes she had already dug. Dirt flew up behind her and landed with pleasant crumbling sounds which Baobab enjoyed very much to hear. But then, as one flow fell, it didn't sound the same as the others. Baobab ceased her digging and blinked into the darkness of her hole. She pulled her head out and turned around. Then her jaw dropped with horror.
"BASHASHA~!" she shrieked, as if in pain. She ran to her beloved sister and began nuzzling her to get the dirt off. "I'msorryI'msorryI'msorryI'msorry!" she chanted.

Bashasha sniffed around, her ears flicking back and forth a little. She could hear something...it sounded like a scratching sound, like someone...
Digging.
With a sigh and slight smile on Asha's face, she trotted towards the sound, being careful to feel first before she stepped anywhere. Her overly-caring sister was very unpredictable in what she dug up. And even more in what she let come out of the hole she made. So, who knew what could be on the ground.
But only a few feet from Baobab, something knocked down from the sky and hit Asha on the head. She blinked, stunned, and froze in place. Another couple hit her back and stayed there. The smell instantly said: 'dirt,' and was confirmed by her sister hurrying over and apologizing profusely.
She giggled. "It's okay, Baobab. It's just dirt," Asha said with a smile, nuzzling Baobab back. This dirt was one of the more good-smelling kind that her sister had dug up, so she didn't really mind this time so much.

Baobab's face had been taken over by a deep look of regret and anguish. She chewed her lower lip fretfully and paced in little, short steps in front of her sister, still incredibly sorry. But Bashasha had said it was okay, so maybe it really was...? But that still didn't fully rid Baobab of the guilt she felt.
"I know it's just dirt, but I should be more careful." Baobab whined, scolding herself. "I'm so-so sorry, sissy." she said with extreme earnest, as if restating just how apologetic she really was. The dark pup sighed and sat down closely beside her sister, checking her over to see if she could spot any lingering dirt. Baobab sometimes felt that it was her duty to make sure Asha was always clean and at her prettiest since her sister couldn't see herself.
"I just get so carried away." Baobab explained solemnly, ears turning backwards with emotion. "The dirt and the digging and the...The...Oh, I'm so sorry, hon." Then she threw herself to the ground and curled her arms over her head, moaning pathetically with sadness.

Asha shook her head, tugging on Baobab's ear playfully.
"Don't worry about it," she insisted, giving her body a final shake to get off the tiny pieces that were in her fur. "It's just dirt. At least it wasn't mud again," she gave a giggle. "That was rather messy. Silly."
It had been messy. Asha had been exploring around the puddles, being careful where she stepped, and then suddenly, one of the puddles snuck up on her. One of the holes Baobab had dug had filled up with water, and Asha just fell in.
From head to toe, she had been completely covered in mud. Laughing, but completely covered. Baobab had freaked out. She thought it was awful. Asha thought differently, but that was her sister for you.
"I know you get carried away. But it's something you like, so that's okay. I forgive you, sister."

"Okay, okay...Okay." Baobab said to her sister, but perhaps more to herself to convince herself that it was truly okay.
But when her sister brought up the mud incident, Baobab was flustered again. "OH, SISSY!" she gasped, suddenly out of breath. "I'm so-so sorry about that! And this! Sorry!" The true essence of a frown was on her face, but was covered almost instantly in shame as Baobab curled her arms over her head.
Then her large ears flipped up.
"You..." she began, peeking through a gap she made between her arms. "You forgive me?" she squeaked. The arms came down and Baobab smothered her sister in nuzzles and kisses. "Thank you!" she cried pathetically, obviously still feeling guilty. Then she jumped back, tail wagging furiously. "Wanna dig holes with me, sissy?" she asked excitedly. "I'll help you make really good ones if you want. And we can go farther away so you don't...Fall into any." she blurted out, rushing over that last bit.

The sheer amount of nuzzling and kisses that Baobab covered Asha in knocked the poor pup over to the side, sitting on her bottom. She giggled at the tickling sensations when her sister nosed her neck, but she batted her away.
"Okay, okay!" she finally gasped out. "Okay, let's dig holes." Her smile was wide. "We can make them really far apart so I don't fall in again."
Though she doubted she would do much of the digging. Not that she could see what she was messing around with in the first place, let alone know where the dirt she was taking out of the ground was going.
"Mmkay. Where are we digging?"

"Umm...Umm..." Baobab moved her head left and right, left and right, paws tapping on the dirt beneath her as she thought of a place to dig. Then her ears stood tall and her face was taken over by a wide, open-mouthed grin. There was a place far over to the right that didn't have any holes. That would be a PERFECT place to dig!
"This way, Asha!" Baobab sang, pressing the side of her body against her sister's so that she could lead her. Then she walked slowly to the spot she had her bright eyes on, careful in her steps and weaving around the holes so that her sister could walk with confidence. She'd shoot a glance at her sister's face every few seconds to make sure she was doing a good job with her leading.
When they arrived in the flawless area, Baobab darted away from her sister and giggled with excitement at the mere idea of digging. "Where should we start?" Baobab asked breathlessly, gazing around. Then she looked to her sister, smiling. "You decide, sissy!"

Asha quietly and quickly squished back against her sister with a smile on her face, allowing herself to be lead to the 'perfect spot for more digging.' To be truthful, all her siblings were getting better at leading her, and getting used to interacting with her. They would give her their tail to latch onto, or walk very close to her so she could feel where they were and follow.
"Start? Well..." once she was alone with Baobab in front of her, she glanced around, walking a little bit in each direction. The right was soft, grassy dirt. To the left was slightly drier grass, with tough dirt. She figured the softer one would take the two of them to dig up because it was embedded with plants. And soft dirt was much more likely to just roll off their coats then turn to dust and spray all over them.
And who knew if Mother was in a cleaning mood or not...
"Let's start here! I like the soft dirt." Asha found a good spot to start, and start she did. Her paws slowly began to cup and scoop the earth away, off to the side. The beginnings of her first hole of the day.

In a flurry of excitement and anticipation, Baobab spun in circles for a few seconds.
"This is a good spot!" Baobab sang in agreement, testing the dirt with her paws happily. Without a second thought, the pup began clawing away at the ground beneath her, dirt flying up behind her. But she was careful to dig away from her sister this time. Every few seconds, Baobab would flash a glance at her elder sister, making sure she wasn't having any trouble digging.
When Baobab saw that her sister was having no trouble making holes, she grinned and wiggled her rump as her tail wagged. Her big sister always did everything well. "You're awesome, Sissy!" Baobab chirped.

Asha laughed and kept digging, eventually going into the hole itself. She just kept digging, hoping that she would impress her sister enough to show that she could dig, and she liked it, and to furthermore tell Baobab that she liked hanging out together.
Because she did.
It wasn't her fault that she just couldn't see what she was digging.
"You're amazing, sissy!" she said proudly in return.

Baobab pounced on her sister, flooded with feelings of pride and happiness. It was true her sister couldn't see, but she could still do so much--she could even dig! So...so...they were still the same, Asha and Baobab...
They were the same, and they were sisters!
Nuzzling her sister, Boabab laughed and stood back up, tail wagging so hard, her bottom-half moved with it. But then she sat down, and was still for once in her life. She smiled at her sister, though her sister couldn't see it.
They were sisters, digging buddies--Baobab was the youngest, but she would always be there to take care of her big sissy.
They were young, but they would be grown-ups one day--and when they were, maybe they would still be digging together, just like that.
And even if they weren't together, Baobab thought...even if they weren't...
They'd still always be sisters, forever!
