Misti wandered through the forest, it was the same as it had been each time she visited. Although it was nice seeing the same surroundings day after day it was also slightly discouraging that she could not see new places and people with every waking moment.

The sun shone with a gentle ferocity, licking with gentle tongue of fire creating a combination of heat and light that left the land in a gentle ambiance. Each ray of light slipped softly through the canopy to light up even the darkest parts of the forest. With every step her eyes dashed to all the plants around, the bugs and creatures that crawled where fascinating, appearing in every colour, at least that was ever changing, a touch of uncertainty in a routine of monotony.

Suddenly a butterfly landed softly on her nose, the feelers gently examining her, she looked at the bright colours on its wings. It has always intrigued her how something so small had such intricate details of many different colours. This one was a nice variety of yellows, greens and pinks. The marks looked like eyes on the mighty wings that gazed directly back at her. As suddenly as it had appeared it disappeared again, fluttering softly away being carried on the gentle breeze that blew towards the centre of the forest, although she had chores to do her mind wandered to the butterfly and before she knew it she was chasing it softly. Flapping the tips of her wings in an effort to copy the butterflies elegance and grace.

Inara poked her head around the truck of a tree, startled slightly by a noise. A smile crept across her face as she saw the colorful mare chasing butterflies. Ah, to be so innocent. She looked on silently in the shadows, entranced. She had the look about her of a mother watching a child's imagination unfold in secrecy. There was something very intimate about watching another without their knowledge, and this prompted Inara to put an end to her observations. She moved out of the shadows gracefully, the tail of her attire swishing on the ground softly. She called out as she moved towards the stranger, "Hello there! I was scarcely sure which of you was the butterfly, and which the mare, so lovely are you!" She dipped into a respectful bow, coming up with a grin. She stopped a few paces from the winged female, examining her bright colors as politely as she could.

Slightly startled Misti took a sharp jolt backwards, she hadn’t expected to meet anyone else in the forest this early in the morning, yet it could have been later than she had originally anticipated. Shrugging of the feeling she attempted to feel more relaxed, after all the mare before her had said hello and not attacked her so that was at least a good sign that she had friendly intentions. Yet she would have to keep her guard up a little until she knew more about her. Her eyes noted that the mare was looking at her, she imagined that she did seem very ‘strange’ given her wings and colourings yet she had always liked the difference. She allowed her own eyes to wander to the strangers clothing, she had never seen anything like it before, it was slightly strange, yet it looked beautiful, very elegant indeed. Something deep inside her twanged with a slight jealous yet it was easily shrugged off with a smile.

She spoke softly, her voice floating lightly on the breeze. "Hello, my name is Misti." She cocked her head slightly in curiosity the other mare had complimented her directly by calling her lovely yet this word seemed an understatement for the beauty that stood before her. "You look radiant," she commented softly. It was the biggest compliment she could think of, either way she hoped that the mare would not be offended.

Standing up tall again she stretched her wings softly, the little touches of flutter flipped softly while her feathered wings reached high in the air she yawned softly, she was still waking up after a long nights work. Bring her wings back to her sides she tucked them in closely, they felt heavier than usual. "Do you like the forest also?" In the corner of her eye she saw another brightly coloured butterfly and before she could stop herself she had turned her head to look at it, speaking in a half-dazed voices "butterflies…."

Inara's smile widened at the compliment and she dipped low once more. "I am Inara Serra. Pleased to meet you!" She rose again and let her eyes wander around to the trees and flowers and colorful insects. "The forest is really lovely and so full of life," she said softly. "It's hard not to love it here." Her voice was warm and soothing, and spoke of a deep intelligence and kindness that this mare surely possessed. Her eyes drifted back to the colorful mare at the mention of butterflies and Inara chuckled. "It seems you share something of a kinship with those fluttering beauties. What do you say we chase a few?" She chuckled and smiled as she located the butterfly that had caught Misti's attention. She watched it flutter lazily on the temperate breeze and felt a quietness overcome her. The forest was so calming and made it so easy to forget the dangers that lurked in the shadows of the world.

Misti smiled and bowed her head in respect at receiving Inara’s name, it seemed to suit her, light and fluffy just like clouds in the sky. Smiling her attention refocused upon the butterflies, she had always had a strange connection with them, and she felt that tiny fragments of butterfly genes that flowed through her blood to reveal themselves as the green and blue stained wings she wore so proudly. It was strange to consider that moments before she had been blissful unaware of any other presence in the forest. Giggling slight she turned her head towards her new companion and nodded before saying, “I would love to chase the butterflies with you.”

With the conclusion of her words she scanned around for the sight of another beautiful butterfly, to her left she noted the fluttering of tiny yellow golden wings, they seemed almost transparent, flickering merrily in the light that pieced through the canopies thick leafy surface above. Her smile lengthened as she watched, her tail happily swaying behind her as the excitement built up within her.

Suddenly the butterfly started to fly away, through the trees. It was time to begin the chase. Stepping forward her hooves slammed hard into the ground causing a spray of dirt to stick to the bottom of her hooves and the trailing sections of her hair as she wandered towards it, each step picking up speed as she headed after the butterfly. Her thoughts wandered of Inara for a moment, now would be the revealing moment, would she follow?

Inara's smile grew more soft and warm as she observed the young mare before her. She allowed Misti to go first, hanging back to watch the female at play. There was something childlike and carefree about her that was a joy to watch. Inara laughed heartily and took off at a canter towards the butterfly and the colorful mare that so resembled them. She found another butterfly, one orange and black and lovely and she couldn't help herself but the raise her head high towards it as it fluttered on the breeze above her. Looking about she found there were many, many more butterflies all over the place and she paused to take in the beauty of the place. The forest seemed hushed, the slight whisper of the wind being the only sound. Sunlight danced through the leaves overheard, giving the area a sparkling and dazzling display as the colorful butterflies fluttered about the flowers that were scattered about. Inara was taken aback by the sight and surprised by the suddenness with which the butterflies had appeared. "It's easy to see why you love this forest so," Inara whispered, her voice reverent. She turned and smiled at Misti. "This place is so beautiful and enchanting. It's a place the Angels could call home." She sighed wistfully and nodded in the direction of a red butterfly that had caught her eye. She grinned playfully and gave chase, laughing as it landed right on her nose.
