In my World Religions class today we were having a discussion about whether or not the US is turning into China, government wise. With all the added cameras and security around, the terrorism-craze, the way the government is wandering farther away from it's initial foundations with the Constitution my teacher was saying that he believes that America really is headed in that direction, not to say that we will become a Communism country.

Government wise we'er going to get closer to the absolute control government like china has. I doubt we'll ever be the same with people being dragged out and shot if they dosomething wrong.. lol. But they do monitor, and become angry if you speak out against the government just like china.
I think we could use some population limited laws here though, not against people with kids, and I dont mean have 1 child limits, but if we do that then we can better use resources and not become like china with people packed into skyscrapper apartments.
And just a correction, their not a comunism anymore, its socialism. Had a teacher who went over there for the summer as a VIP with her husband that works with our local media. Their becomming the next US with the growing industries and comercial markets, while we're falling behind lol.

Oh really hmm my teacher still thought they were Communist...I will have to inform him XD Yes their industries and markets are growing FAST and it's predicted that China will soon be the top major country in the world instead of America in like 10, 20 years Of course I guess we're the ones who caused it though buying stuff made in China constantly...like at Wal-Mart XD But yeah I don't think our government will ever go to the extreme of killing citizens for speaking up for their rights but we are slowly losing our original freedoms

But I mean, its all for freedom right? (sarcastic) Lol... I have a criminal stustic teacher who makes me fear for our future because obviously she was taught this way thinking "As long as we catch the terrorist its ok to limit a few freedoms of citizens".
Yeah, not alot of differences in social- or comu-nism. But they don't want to be thought of baddly, communism is a dirty word as we all know. Social gives a bit more freedom to buisnesses too. Hehe.. They dont have (if any), little building codes in cities from what my teacher that went told me, so their building like crazy with all kinds of stuff, no matter the risk. They are eager to catch up to us. Over 80% of all concrete placed on the earth in the last few years has been placed in China.

Yeah that makes sense I think China basically is Communist but they say Socialism because it sounds much better rolleyes yeah China is obsessed with becoming better than America but over 50% of the country is super poor! Not to mention that they are waaaay over-populated that it is almost difficult to live their

Their the only other country that whines about tainted imports just as much as we do also. Don't ever see anyone else getting on the media with major issues.

America = China? Ha! I highly doubt that. Yes, there are new technology that are very controversial but with our constitution and how America was built I think there are going to be a lot of lawsuits to go through before the idea of a communist America. And the media would fuel a lot of protests.
If a woman who burned her lap with coffee from a fast food restaurant and get millions then no way the jury or the judge would allow such things go pass the Constitution.

Well...there are a lot of things that can and cannot be said about American politics, but there is one thing I have to say: don't be negative. I highly doubt the United States' government (to be politically correct) fall into a state of 'socialism' or 'communism.' Why? WE LOVE MONEY! Even though our government will like to directly seize those assets, they make more money on a free market. That sounds kind of...the opposite of what you'd think right? If the government took control of those businesses they'd potentially gain more profit? WRONG. Cause in a free market, you get away with a lot of things...ask any economist (or myself). Think about our past President Bush. He made so much money off the oil industry. There are also many other political figureheads who bank when it comes to our free market. Now...lets look at...China >< With 'socialism' in place, government seizes those money from businesses...money that comes from the people...who are poor. As tough as it is to see, many economists favor free markets for two reasons: 1) profit $$$ 2) more profit.

I doubt it. Socialism is NOT communism. More like China wants to be like America. They've been changing their government so now there are no benefits of their government. They take all the bad s**t about America plus all the bad s**t about Communism, and BAM. We have suckish government.
Whatever. Still fun to visit China. I will personally be glad if China is the top country. They didn't spend all our money on a pointless war. :/

Okay mind if I join in? I myself have been studying Chinese culture and society for around 10 years now at least. First off, comparing China to America is impossible because of the difference in history. Besides China before Shi Huang Di unified it under the Qin empire was a Republic. Also add in the face that China is not overpopulated. The average village in China has a population of around 120 people. Also they are decently spread out. Most of China lives in Hong Kong and Beijing as that is where 80% of the industries lie. That is not the fault of the government but rather the corporations that abuse the fct that Hong Kong laws are different then China's.
Also China has been socialist for the last 80 years, they are the only country in world history to pull off as Socialist and a Capitalism system. Now first off there, the only city that is like that is Hong Kong and that is because up until 24 years ago around it belonged to America and Great Britain. Also in economy the Chinese culture is the reason why they do not have as much money. Really what does money matter though? Seriously you could have billions of dollars and still not be happy. Money does not buy happiness. The largest problem China has is not land, not resources or anything of that like but the fact that the females are typically seen as property. As such most villages are running out of females.
Simply put, America is incapable of ever becoming a China because of our set of beliefs, religion, and history.

Of course America and China are two different cupcakes in our little Earth bakery, but that doesn't mean they can have the same icing or sprinkles (sorry, lol, I'm hungry xD)
America is supposed to be a Capitalist economy, cruel as it is, but this economy is what had stabilized us for so long, our dog-eat-dog adage that always culled the weak and reaped the strong. Unfortunately, with our recent bailouts, we're leaning towards Socialism by refusing to let the weakened corporations fall and new strong ones to rise.
Socialism is supposed to be an egalitarian system, trying to distribute the resources and wealth in equal and fair proportions. As cute as it sounds, this is where that economy's main flaw lies. A man can work harder and receive as little reward as his lazy neighbor. Communism and Socialism are not synonyms, as most assume- German philosopher Karl Marx predicted that Communism is actually the last stage of Socialism, where the equality remains the same, but the control has increased to the point of erasing individuality. Marx's intent of 'pure Communism' was a classless and stateless democratic society, but I doubt that such utopia is possible for any country.
This brings me to say that America should retain our Capitalism if we hope of surviving. I may not favor Darwin's religious beliefs, but I do believe in the true definition of evolution, that life cannot proceed without conquer, without natural selection and eliminating the weaker organisms. Do you think we would know how to walk so well if we hadn't fallen so many times, if we didn't have the experience to remind us how to place each foot forward. They say one cannot learn without mistakes, and it's the same for economy, except that it cannot advance without those mistakes.
America will only get higher if it learns how to step and build atop its corpses rather than vainly going Mary Shelley on them.

Wow.. That is all I have to say Atra. Someone has been doing some learning. I really agree on most of those points. Just starting my government class, so just starting to get into all the details of the government things myself. But I do believe if the US collapses under the weight of all the economic stress as many foreign economists have said, it could be possible to change for the worse. Im not going to go down a whole other debate, but just because we have a constitution and rights doesn't mean they are set in stone forever. Give people the right fear and anger and anything can change.
Also, I never ment this could be a overnight type thing. Just that it is possible, even remotely that in some ways we could become like they are. It would just require long periods of time of some seriously bad times.
Note: Just tell China its ok to have baby girls born and not just males and their problems will get better.

No. Honestly, we have it better off here than most places. Everyone bitches about the government being unjust or how the country is in a great economic and structural turmoil, but the thought never occurs to them that there are some dictatorship or communistic countries that base their foundation of law upon ethnic cleaning through religious persecution. For example, a well respected government official shouts warped versions of biblical scriptures at football [soccer] game at half time while a couple is buried to their torsos and promptly stoned to death for a possibly false accusation of adultery. Meanwhile the people in the stands either remain silently horrified or cheer, for they cannot applaud or praise the happenings during any other time. If they do they are almost instantaneously beaten with the butt of a rifle by a security guard and threatened until once again silent. The players have to wear long sweats, even in the summer season, for any exposure of skin could cause indecent thoughts. Yet women aren‘t permitted to go to the game anyway. No one ponders on the fact that a small parentless boy with no home is sitting under a bridge in a third word county, holding his little sister in his arms as she slowly dies of starvation, despite his attempts to get enough food. His nation is divided into several war groups that slaughter whole cities by the hour. Fellow countrymen enslave one another to work in mines containing precious stones, all so that their owners and leaders can sell them for weapons funding. Meanwhile nearly all citizens live in complete poverty while the government officials live prosperous lives and could give a s**t less because they‘re in league with the dominant amount of gangs, whom they have absolutely no control over. And where do you reside as an American in the status of life? You have a residency, a bed, a job, an education, a car, a phone, an ample supply of food, water, and obviously internet connection, which by the way you use for your own leisure for sites such as Gaia. Oh, and if your happen to live in very poor conditions there are shelters, job opportunities, food stamps, welfare, endless ways to advance in society, most of which people abuse or ignore - but that’s a conscious choice. Men and women of all ethnicities are allowed equal rights. Your children don't have to worry about being killed for being caught leaning how to read and write. You will not be slaughtered alongside millions for your personal religious perspectives. You can have any sexual orientation without being taken away for torture by a black bag in the night. You can hold a protest against Congress or the President and not be made a public example of by being hanged, dismembered limb from limb, burned into ashes, and then spit upon by anyone who had the will to. All because of the principals of this government. You want to complain? Go ahead. You have every right to do so. But you’d be one very ungrateful individual, and no fan of mine.
