Green feet seemed to glow as the so called 'toxic' mare wandered through the night. Anyone who was out probably couldn't tell the difference between the green fur itself and the bracelets softly illuminating Midori's way as she hummed a sad tune. Fall had come once again. Sure, a beautiful time, but it was the second fall she'd encountered. Since the leaves had fallen a year previous, much had happened. The mare had a sense of accomplishment and wisdom about her, yet she felt an ache in her heart. Six foals (only one hers), a lot of screaming, and ten months later, she fellt like an entirely different Soquili. Perhaps it was that even though she hated the idea of giving birth, she still loved all of her children, even if they weren't her own. Simply the thought of the young adults she'd cared for made her smile softly to herself, yet her tune remained a melancholy one. All of them had grown. Well, mostly all of them. Phaedra was the only foal left of the bunch. Growing meant maturing, and maturing meant the children she'd raised weren't going to need her. She was, now that they didn't need her permission for anything, useless to them. How upsetting. She hadn't planned for this. This wasn't supposed to happen. They were supposed to stay her little babies. Completely dependant on her for love and companionship. For attention. For anything. Only one thing came to Midori's mind. "What a sad little existance," she sighed.

Dusty Trails had been out all day, looking at the gorgeous leaves. Midori had always said that Autumn was a beautiful time of year, but the young mare never fathomed something like this. Crisp air entered her nostrils as she slowly found her way back home. "How long has it been?" she thought aloud. "Since I've been back to Midori's teepee?" Her thoughts were slowly turning from the trees and how gorgeous they were to the mare who'd been like a mother to her. It must have been at least two months since she'd left with her 'friend' Eton to go on an adventure. Oh, how fun that was. No worries, no cares in the world. Nobody telling her what to do, and best of all, the thing she'd longed for most her entire life, the undivided attention of a stallion willing to stand at her side and protect her from anything that dared startle her. Her knight. Her hero. It wasn't too long before the poised mare stumbled over a rock, cussing loudly at it, and blaming it for ruining her perfectly shined hoof. Nothing new. Nothing changed. Not for her, anyway.

The tune had barely stopped when Midori's ears perked and swiveled about. A smile approached her face when she determined what she was hearing. Slowly, she started toward the loud voice, shaking her head at the foul words. Even though Dusty wasn't her daughter, it was evident Midori had raised her. Not only had the foul language been passed on, but the obsessiveness for being presentable. Then again, Dusty's mother had been that way, too. A soft nicker emerged from the mare's lips, and a bit of excitement filled her body. How wonderful it would be to see her child after all this time, even though she hadn't given birth to her.
