It's file name is "elque", and it looks so dang familiar, but I have no freak'n clue as to where I've seen it before.  It's very fast, and has the ability to summon a full moon when it's health is low, completely blackening the screen so you can't see it, as well as regenerating health from the full moon.

I was thinking that it was from some movie or other video game.

Do a search for it, if you like playing 2-D fighting games.
Or if there has ever heen a time that you wanted to see two characters from two different things
(anime - or - video game - or anything really) fight each other.
With M.U.G.E.N, you can add almost any character from anything that you could want. Like
"kirby vs sephiroth" (just to state a wierd matchup).
You can even make your own, if you want to put in the work.
(right now - rurouni kenshin is on my "to search for" list)

I didn't have a chance to lose interest, Halfway through the first season, The channel moved it's time-slot, and I never cought up again.
