User Image (Side Note: The red marks on Div's neck are not there yet. They are part of a plot with Kor and I ^_^)
This was quite the interesting delivery!!! Divintra had been in high spirits ever since he had left Menzoberazzan. Leaving the city normally would have kept him on edge and frightened. But he was actually in the company of a trade caravan and he couldn't feel safer! All he had to do was ride inside the wagon, stay out from underfoot, and he was as safe as could be! The guards took care of keeping all the dangerouse monsters away, Divintra had three fair meals a day. Fair in compare to the scraps he normally ate. This was certainly a experience for the young boy! His bright purple eyes were constantly filled with a excited gleam. All he had to do was deliver a simple letter too! Who knew what was inside of it, it was a fairly think letter, but Divintra had no intentions of letting anything happen to it! He kept it tucked and hidden inside his shirt, pressed tight to his chest by the form fitting rothe leather shirt.

Divintra even had his return home set up for him! Another wagon would be departing Guallidurth in two days after his arrival. So he had plenty of time to deliver the letter, and perhaps sight see a small bit. He did not want to get too reckless though and end up someplace bad for someone like him...

So it was his trip was enjoyable, and it was with a happy little smile that he located the small store. He did not know or care how the female that had hired him had known where to send him. All he knew was he had actual gold pieces to see him through until he got back home and he couldn't be happier. Tonight he'd be praying very happily to Vhaerun again! Walking up to the door, he tried to open it first before knocking. It seemed to be a store after all, and it would make no sense to knock on a shops door if it was already open.

Taliesin was in the back of his shop, working away on the latest batch of orders in his workshop, in an unusually good mode. Though he did have a lot to be happy about, his small business was starting to take off and he was finally making a profit. He was gaining a reputation as a competent is slightly unorthodox mage and perhaps most importantly was having more fun at night lately.

so it was that he was humming softly to himself as he poured molten bronze into a set of moulds when he heard a soft jingle at teh back of his head from the ward he had set over the shop door. "Be with you in just a moment" Tal called out as he set down his tools and took off the leather apron he wore to protect his clothes.

Tal headed through teh door to the front of the shop which held the few display cabinets that showed off Tal's finer work, but pulled up short when he saw who was there. Tal had heard of Drow being born as albinos, but he'd never seen one in person. In truth he would have said it was a surface elf standing before him, if not for a fact no surface elf would have made it this far into the city undetected.

Getting over his initial surprise Tal approached the oddly pale boy cautiously. "Welcome... I'm Taliesin D'Bren, the owner. Is there something I can do for you?"

The display case had caught Divintra's attention the moment he walked in the shop. he knew he was supposed to deliver the letter, but it would not hurt to stop and look right? So it was that when Taliesin first called out, Divintra was busy pressing his hands to the case to peer within.

"No hurry Sir!" he called out cheerfully enough. His purple eyes glittered with admiration as he looked over the rings. The man was a jeweler of some sort then? Divintra was incapable of detecting magic, and sadly if there were any signs present he'd have been unable to read them...well... read them enough to fully understand them. But he could tell from looking at the rings that they were quite nice. He could only imagine what his mother would have thought.

When it was taliesin entered the room, Divintra began to rise from his kneeling position near the case. Now that the shop owner was present he needed to hand the letter off. Then he'd be able to go on his sight seeing! The look that taliesin placed upon him was common enough. In fact Divintra assumed it was the most often expression he recieved from strangers. Still, it did nothing to dampen his high spirits or the smile upon his lips.

"Hello Sir D'Bren. I am here on busniess actually. I'm here to deliver a letter to you Sir." Divintra reached for the laces of his shirt and loosened them a bit so he could pull the letter out from between the thin material of his shirt and the tight leather of the rothe hide he wore. Tugging the thick envelope out, he crossed over to Taliesin and presented it to him for acceptance.
PostPosted: Sun Oct 05, 2008 8:05 am

"Oh?" This was unexpected Tal couldn't think of anyone who'd be sending him a letter, or rather he didn't know who'd be sending one by private courier. the only people Tal could think of would have sent a servant to deliver the message, but this delivery boy didn't seem to be wearing any livery, at least none from a house Tal was familiar with.

Curious to see the contents, Tal eagerly took the letter from teh messenger, but his mood shifted the instant he saw the way his name was written on the envelope. Tal recognised his mothers handwriting instantly. Turning the envelope over in his hands Tal noted how thick it was, he doubted that boded well, his mothers letters were generally bile inducing enough when they were a few lines on a single page. Momentarily forgetting about the messenger Tal began scrutinising the envelope for any hidden dangers, using simple spells to check for magical traps, any poisons coating the letter and even triple checking for any sign that a spell was in place to suppress or hide a real threat.

Finally content the envelopes contents weren't dipped in poison or set to explode when the envelope opened, Tla relaxed a little and returned his attention to the messenger. "Can I offer you some refreshments? I may need to send a quick response to this letter and may be in need of your services?" Tal could close up the shopfront for a little while to read the letter uninterrupted, but whatever was in the letter might require a response on his part and this messenger could do the job of replying.

One thing id strike Tal, why had his mother sent this boy? Usually a few servants came into the city once every week or so and they carried any letters or requests from Tal's mother. So, what was different about this? "Tell me where were you given this letter, where did you come from?"

Divintra's eyes wanted to wander while Taliesin was busy inspecting the envelope. At first he did not understand why the other drow was casting magic on the letter. Then, aal worked on his..third spell was it? As Tal worked on that spell it occured to Divintra that perhaps the letter he'd been happily carrying all this waymight have held a rather deadly secret. He felt an uneasy chill travel down his spine. Why did it seem like he brushed against possible mis-haps so often? Granted, it seemed the letter was safe enough, and Divintra had gained no uneasey or distrustful feelings concerning the person who handed him the letter, beyond the normal feelings that is.

Divintra's mind wandered down to the coins in his pocket then. For that amount of payment, and the perks that had come with the traveling, he had to believe the danger had been worth it. This had been one of the best jobs he had ever had. Perhaps he'd try delivering letters more often? They didn't weigh nearly as much as merchant deliveries and if the sender arranged for the trip it was enjoyable!

Taliesin then spoke to Divintra, pulling his wandering mind from the different things he was going to do while still in the city. "Oh? Yes Sir please. That would be very nice." Refreshments! More food he didn't have to pay for, and a possible return job! This was indeed his most fortunate job ever! Divintra felt like he was glowing and on high as he nodded his head to further show his agreement to Taliesin's wishes. Well, until it was the other started to ask him questions that did not relate to his job.

Divintra did not resent the questions, nor did they really drape a veil of mopey depression on him. He just always felt that, when it came to personal questions, he had to be exceptionally careful what he said. "I was in the Eastmyr Sir, when I was approched and asked to deliver this letter." He answered after a moment of though "I am from the Braeryn of Menzoberanzzan. Is that all you want to know Sir?"
PostPosted: Sun Oct 05, 2008 10:48 am

Menzoberanzzan? Tal furrowed his brow in thought, trying to imagine what would drag his mother out that way. She hardly ever left the safety of family estate, except to attend the temple for major events. Tal was certain she'd never left their home town once during his lifetime. What exactly was she plotting now? Tal glanced at the envelope suspiciously, now almost wishing he could burn it and pretend he'd never received it. for a brief moment he honestly considered killing or bribing the messenger and acting as if the message had been lost some how... He doubted she'd accept that excuse though.

With a sigh he returned his attention to the messenger. "Very well, come with me." Waving a hand the lights in the shopfront dwindled to a weak glow and a faint click came form the front door as it locked itself. Tal then indicated the boy should come round the counter and follow Tal through the door to the workshop. Taliesin lead Divintra up a narrow steep set of steps at teh back of the building that led to a large library, Tal continued on through this room to a small kitchen and indicated the messenger should sit at teh small table while Tal pulled a few things form the cupboards and set them on the table.

It wasn't anything extravagant, Tal had fairly simple tastes in food, but he wasn't stingy either and put out generous portions. "Feel free to help yourself, it may take a few minutes to go through all this." Using a kitchen knife to open the envelope without disturbing the seal, Tal then sat opposite Divintra and started to read the contents of the letter. Tal read quickly, browsing through the first few pages in a few moments, mostly mundane general affairs of the family. Tal felt his mother was building to something and noticed that most of the news was bad, well for the House in general anyway.

Several bad business ventures, the deaths of some of the families more influential members, a poor harvest. At another time the news might have brought a slight smile to his face, but he knew there was something coming that he wouldn't like. And then he found the page detailing the reason for his mothers visit to Menzoberanzzan and Tal nearly passed out from shock. for a few brief moments it felt like his heart had stopped as several pages fell from his hand. Tal just sat there staring blankly at the page, his fingers trembling ever so lightly.

As the shock passed it gave way to rage. Crushing the remaining sheets in his hand Tal stood so quickly he knocked back his chair with a clatter. Ignoring it he started to pace in the small room, his grip on the letter tight enough to turn his knuckles white. "That miserable old b***h! I can't believe she's done this to me! ARGH! Damn her to the deepest vilest pit of the Abyss!!"

Reguardless of the simplicity, Divintra still found the building something to be admired. Oh, he was not slack jawed with awe. Goodness no! But he could appreciate the stability of the built structure. He could envy the simple furnishings. He could even long for the stocked provisions he saw within the cup boards as they were open. None of this insighted a greedy desire to filch any items that did not belong to him however. That was one thing his mother had never been able to instill in him, and Divintra counted it as a blessing of wisdom from Vhaerun.

He sat when he was directed, and placed his folded hands upon the table top to keep them from twitching with his eagerness. Oh! How he wished every job could bring him this much contentment! The food that Taliesin placed upon the table suited Divintra very well. His eyes darted to the large portions with a eagerness, but he remembered well his manners and waited until Tal gave him permission to eat. And OH! Did he eat! Divintra did not shovel the food into his mouth, nor did he gluttonously gobble what he laid his hands upon. No, he knew better then to risk disgusting Tal. besides, it wasn't like he only had a few seconds to eat. The letter had felt pretty long after all. Divintra did take nice sized portions for himself, and he ate steadily while watching Tal's face as he read.

For his part, Divintra had not been expecting the sudden explosion of anger. He jumped in his seat, a piece of bread heavily coated with some mushroom paste paused halfway to his lips. His purple eyes widened a good deal as Tal began his pacing and curseing. "Bad...news Sir?" It was obvious of course but still... "Should I let myself out?" Agitated drow were not the best of company to keep after all, and if there was no desire on Taliesin's part to reply to the letter, Divintra would much rather beat a hasty retreat.
PostPosted: Mon Oct 06, 2008 1:42 pm

Turning a heated glare on Divintra, Tal's arm was already in motion, his mind forming a spell to splash the whelp in an unhealthy dose of acid. Luckily Tal caught himself just as he came to the brink. No it wasn't this boys fault, Tal wasn't angry at him, he was furious at his mother and her vile schemes. Instead of hurling acid at him all Tal did was point at him and bark instructions "Stay! Wait! Eat!"

Tal then immediately returned to his pacing as he tried to think of a way to deal with this mess. But all he accomplished was a few angry grunts as he paced pointlessly , his grip on the letter so tight his nails were digging into his palm. Finally he stopped and gripped the counter that ran along one wall of the kitchen, gripping it so tightly his fingers ached. Standing perfectly still, he took several long slow breaths before letting out a long sigh.

"My apologies... I... have received some.... disturbing news from my Matron. I will need to reply quickly." the only problem was what kind of reply? Tal refused to submit to his mothers plot, yet what else could he do? Had this come later when his own plans were in place he could act more confidently, maybe even use it to his advantage but... He needed more time.

Flattening out the letter, Tal quickly read teh remaining pages, bile slowly rising in his throat. Damn her, she's left me no space to maneuver, to keep to this schedule I'll have to leave in a few weeks at best... Not enough time to shore up his position. He had made a great deal of progress towards his master plan, but he still wasn't near strong enough to openly defy his Matron and House. He needed some way of postponing things give him more time to come up with a long term solution.

With a defeated sigh Tal picked up the chair and flopped into it. Staring into space he idly drummed his fingers on the table thought, totally lost in thought. Suddenly Tal smiled and grabbed up the envelope the letter had come in, examining it for a few moments, Tal seemed again to be lost in thought while stroking is chin. Finally he started to cast a spell, Tal worked slowly as if unsure of himself, but after taking every care to get the details right handed the envelope to the messenger boy.

"Here, tell me what it says" If the spell had worked, the envelope should now read as 'Etheala Eilsvirr' rather than 'Taliesin D'Bren', importantly it should look as if the name was still written in his mothers hand. It all really depended on being able to pin any blame back on his mother.

It...it happened so quickly. Divintra's eyes saw...something. It was so quick. He was unable to realize exactly what it was he saw when Taliesin turned to look at him. All he knew was that in the brief moment he was on his feet. his chair knocked to one side and a space of a step between himself and the mage. The hairs on the back of his neck were raised and he could feel what almost seemed like a tingling in his eyes of all things. But it was gone so quick. Nearly as quickly as it took Taliesin to catch himself.

Divintra had begun to grow used to his attempts at Seeing things. he had even learned the catch to focusing out a Vision. He'd taken for granted that his sense of knowing when a drow meant him harm came natrually to him. This, however, was something extremely different then being able to look and determin if the drow trying to hire him meant him some sort of unpleasent end. This was a development that Divintra had been unprepared for.

Taliesin's jabbed finger and harsh command encouraged Divintra to return to his seat. It was not out of any sort of comfort or trust either. Taliesin was still exhibiting signs of agitation, so Divintra was of the mind not to add any vexation or annoyance to the bad news he had recieved. "It is fine Sir." he carefully responded. Perhaps he could use this? Perhaps he could see something again?

Rather then resuming eating, Divintra slipped his hands into his pockets. One hand fisted comfortably at his side, while the other wrapped tightly about the black glass ball he carried. Staring would be a bit annoying, or at the very least un-nerving. So Divintra lowered his eye lids halfway and tipped his head forwards just a little bit as if he were more sleepy then he really felt. Perhaps if he tried to unfocus his eyes?

Unfortunatly, his attempts to recreate the strange occurance were a failure. His eyes fluttered completely open after Taliesin handed the envelope to him. Now this was a bit of a snag wasn't it? Divintra pulled his fisted hand from his pocket, and lightly touched his white fingertips to the paper of the envelope in acceptance. Now his eyes flickered over the neatly magiced lines. Tell him what it says? He felt, and possibly looked, uncomfortable as he stared a bit longer then neccessary at the simple scribed words. Eh....eth....all...ah...Eth...

Divintra flicked his gaze back up to Taliesin after his attempt to mentally sound out the first word on the envelope. "Sir...I can't...read. At least not very well."
PostPosted: Tue Oct 07, 2008 11:21 am

For a brief moment Tal's eyes narrowed as he looked at the messenger, he had sensed something.. a flicker of power. Of what he had no idea.. maybe... Suddenly his mind snapped back to the more immediate matter at hand and pushed the small glimmer he had sensed aside. What ever it was, it was of little importance compared to the end of all his ambitions and plans.

When the messenger admitted he couldn't read, Tal went wide eyed. "A Drow your age and you can't read?" Tal had learned to read at an early age, but then he'd been raised as the son of a Matron. A Matron of D'bren could hardly be expected to make time to give instructions to her sons in person, so it was easier to make them learn to read, so she could deal with them at a distance. Thus Tal learned to read before many of his older, pampered sisters.

Ideally Tla wondered if it was a bane or a boon for an illiterate messenger. He supposed a messenger who couldn't read was unlikely to bother peeking at the contents of a letter. On the other hand such a messenger wouldn't be able to follow written instructions or read an address. With a slight sigh Tal shrugged, it didn't really matter to him, Divintra had made out enough that Tal was content the spell had probably worked. All in all it was a minor ploy, useful if it worked but not essential to his plan.

"Look it doesn't matter. Just remember teh name Etheala Eilsvirr. OK? Got that memorised? Etheala Eilsvirr. I want you to deliver a very special delivery for me. Well two, one to my mother the Matron D'bren and the other to this brat of the Eilsvirr. How much did my mother pay you to deliver this letter to me?"

Divintra still felt the faded excitement over the unexpected flash of Sight. He wanted to go someplace private right now so he could happily pray his thanks to Vhaerun for whatever it was he'd just had happen to him. His fingers twitched to reach into his small travel pack and caress the black idol he had brought with him. However he fought off these urges successfully by focusing on Taliesin.

The surprise the other male exhibited seemed a little odd to Divintra, but then again...how many drow could read and took it for granted? "No Sir. My mother taught me the basics of reading but never completed my lessons. Not many have the generousity or desire to teach someone from the Braeryn, specially when they can't exactly pay for the time. It's no matter though Sir. I have a excellent memory."

He had to! If he couldn't remember names and descriptions or directions he'd never be able to make his deliveries. "Etheala Eilsvirr. I know it now Sir." He quickly repeated so as to ensure Tal that he had the name correctly in his mind. However...when the mention of payment came up, Divintra had to take a moment to think.

"Well Sir...The Lady that hired me, paid eight gold to ensure this letter arrived to you. But she also arranged for my transportation and meals during the trip.... Plus it was only one delivery. She never hired me to bring a return reply back..." It wouldn't hurt would it? Trying to get a little more out of the deal was something to be expected after all. It wouldn't hurt after all. It wasn't like he was expecting Taliesin to meet the supposed amount that was paid to him..but it might help in the descion as to what to pay him... Either way, Divintra was pleased to be getting a possible second payment on top of his first!
PostPosted: Tue Oct 07, 2008 2:16 pm

Tal pursed his lips slightly in thought when he heard how much the messenger had been paid. Eight gold pieces seemed unusually generous of his mother, were messengers normally that expensive to hire? Tal supposed traveling through the Underdark from one city to the next, even along the more well established and patrolled routes was hazardous. How much would he charge to risk his life for another's mail? Tal could have priced around, but this Drow was already going to be headed in the right direction and had succeeded in delivering his mothers letter, so he was as good a choice as any

Sighing Tal rose form teh table and waved at Divintra to follow. "Come along then, I have a job for you." Leading the messenger back into the library, Taliesin went to one of teh bookcases and took down a small plain looking box from a high shelf. Taking a moment to disarm the spells protecting it, Tal used a small key he pulled from nowhere to open it. Without letting Dinintra see what was in it, Tal took something out, then quickly locked the box, restored the traps and put it back up on the shelf.

Turning to look at the young messenger, Tla again pursed his lips and let out an annoyed sigh before speaking. "I'm afraid I don't have eight gold to pay you, but this should more than cover the job." With an obvious sign of reluctance, Tal tossed a small emerald, roughly half the size of his thumb to Divintra. "I assume you'll accept?"

Perhaps he had misjudged? The look on Taliesin's face was less then pleased. Divintra took a few moments to double check himself. he did not believe he had over exaggerated his payment. In truth he'd only recieved six gold. Two more wouldn't make a difference would it? And the arranged meals were really nothing special. Just joining in with the guards when it was meal time...and it wasn't like he had said he had a private cart or anything...

Still, he had some minor hopes of at least recieving close to what he said he'd been paid. If questioned he certainly would admitt that his way home had been paid for, and in all honesty why pay twice for something? Divintra's hopes rose as Taliesin would inform him that he would give him the job, and the teen eagerly followed him into the private room.

The whole trap and locked box scene made a good deal of sense to Divintra. When you had something valuable you certainly had to protect it. The more you had, magic and otherwise, the better you could hide and safeguard things. It would have been nice to have something that locked and was guarded by magic for his idol and coins.

Divintra caught the gem as it was flicked to him, and he held it in his palms as a sense of shock fell over him. Despite being small, Divintra could not subdue the sense of disbelief that filled him. A gemstone! On average they were worth far more then a few gold pieces, and it was a emerald one too! Divintra's slightly widened eyes lifted to look at Taliesin when he nodded his head in acceptance.

"Yes Sir. You'll have to tell me where I can find Etheala so I can deliver this letter to them Should I leave after I hand it over or wait for a response?"
PostPosted: Wed Oct 08, 2008 10:19 am

Nodding Tal went to a small writing desk in one corner and pulled together the few pieces he needed to write a letter. "I actually have two messages for you to deliver. This first letter is for my Mother, mundane enough stuff. I'll give you directions to find her estate later, though you should pass through my home town on your way back to Menzoberanzzan." In fact Tal suspected the reason his mother had been so generous as to arrange the return trip was to guarantee the messenger passed through, so she could question him and ensure her letter was delivered. Now Tal could take advantage of that to ensure his own letter reached his Matron.

"The other will be for this blasted Eilsvirr wench. My mother won't require your services to send me a reply. As for Eilsvirr, you would do well to get away as soon as you hand the letter to a servant." Tal scribbled away as he spoke, really he was exchanging pleasantries with a few poorly veiled insults, but most importantly making it clear that he would accept his mothers decision though it was under protest. Tal found it so much easier to lie to her when she wasn't there glaring at him in person. Finishing the letter he placed it in an envelope addressed it to her and sealed the back with wax, which he imprinted with a small stamp bearing his House crest.

That nuisance out of the way it was time to deal with bigger problem, at least buying himself some time, or perhaps ending the threat entirely, depending on whether Lolth chose to smile on him. Moving again to one of the bookcases, this time Tal got down on his knees to drag a heavy ornately decorated chest out. Tal muttered out loud as he waved his hands over the box, which eventually emitted a yellowish glow from around the seam of the lid and popped open. Ever so carefully Tal took out a book loosely wrapped in a cloth and placed it on the table, gingerly pulling back the cloth.

The book was an ancient looking thing, the cover beaten and torn, the spine in shambles and it looked like many of the pages were loose and sticking out at odd angles. Along the bottom of the book a large number of ribbons stuck out, marking various sections of the book. Tal took a moment to read the symbols on the worn ribbons before finding the pages he wanted. He quickly glanced up at the waiting messenger before opening the book. "I'd look away if I were you, this isn't a book for the unwary.. Then again since you can't read maybe it won't matter?"

Shrugging Tal used the ribbon he'd selected to open the book to the part he wanted, closing his eyes in the process for fear of reading the pages himself. Eyes squeezed tight Tal gingerly pulled out the top page, then quickly slammed the book shut. Eyes still shut, Tal then folded the page he'd removed, such that he couldn't read what was written on it and only then did he dare open his eyes again.

Quickly he placed the folded page into the envelop he had altered and with a simple spell mended the tear he'd made. Tal now had an envelope addressed to Eilsvirr in his mothers writing and bearing her personal seal on the back and containing a very nasty surprise. Looking at the young messenger, Tal waved the two letters.

"Remember one is for my mother, the other for that b***h in Menzoberanzzan. and make no mention of the second letter to my mother. In fact, if at all possible don't deal with her at all, just hand her my letter and be off."

What a...strange old book. Divintra's curiousity was nudged as he watched the great care that Taliesin took with the old tome. The warning that he was given was taken, reguardless of his inability to read. He did still possess some minor understand of letters after all. "I think I will err on the side of caution Sir. thank you." He polietly responded while turning his entier body about so his back was to Taliesin. He completely missed the collection of the page, as well as it's addition to the letter.

Simple...this job was all fairly simple . Deliver and leave. Divintra could do this. Though he greatly hoped that no one would come looking for him for explanations...well...why should they? He was only the delivery boy. it is not like he knows the contents of the letters, and he could always claim he was in the kitchen when Taliesin returned with both letters in hand. SInce he could not read he could rely on any questioners to take for granted they he would not notice the remarkable similarty between the letter he had delivered and the the letter he was given for another delivery.

"Yes Sir. I can do this easily enough." Divintra replied to the instructions while turning back around to face him. "My transport leaves the city in just two days. I'll most likely be easy enough to find in case you think of anything else...." Or change his mind. Divintra felt it would not hurt to allow the other drow more time to...think things over if need be. After all, if things worked out well enough maybe he'd be called upon in the future for more deliveries? Divintra's hand squeezed tightly over the emerald as he tucked both letters into his shirt.

"Is the second letter to a person in the same House as your Mother Sir? Or is she located elsewhere?"
