The wind whipped bangs into warm brown eyes, a crisp autumn breeze against sweated flesh. Her forelegs reached out, hooves gripping the earth, throwing her forwards. Her hindquarters moved in unison, kicking up dirt as she galloped headlong.
She was a racehorse at heart. If it were permissable, she would have a woman on her back and a bit clenched between her teeth. Running was...exhilarating. It wore out the nerves that kept her moving 24/7 like a little coffee jumping bean. It made her feel as if she could fly, even when she didn't have wings. The only one of her sisters who didn't, in fact.
Slowly she slowed to a trot. She was going nowhere inparticular. No one caught her eye. Soquili were about, but they were just shells. She'd not yet seen the spirit who would capture her heart, that she would fall headlong into love with.
It would come in time, she figured, but she'd like to meet him... Her knight in shining armor. Not even two years old yet and dreaming for a mare's life, Akiilani was different than everyone else.
But he would come...In time.

The stallion was very new to this area. His herd being driven to famine and death, he being one of the few to survive and flee.
His mind had since been one of a traveler. He had refused to settle down, fearing that tying himself down could lead him to death like the unfortunate death of his not so lucky brethren.
But he was still a happy stallion, full of life and energy. He had hopes for this place. Oh yes he did. He had truly fallen for its green appeal, which he noticed was turning slightly russet color as the wings of fall flew down.
The brown and white stallion, flicked his tail, and raised his head in the sun. He had always loved the sun..Almost as much as he loved running and leaping into the air.
Oz had the right mentality that most wished they had. He lived very much in the moment, never truly lingering on the past or fearing about the future. He could die tomorow and know he lived a good full life, despite what had happened to him before.
It felt good to stretch his legs today.

As her trot balanced out, she threw up her hindquarters in an impulsive buck, not seeing the brown and white stallion with the buzzcut before she'd passed...
Before she realized what she'd done, her knees buckled out from under her, sending the gray-violet mare toppling into a rather weedy bush.
Imaginary wings flared out, trying to catch herself, but to no avail. She found herself, soon, sitting among the thorns along the plant's thickness.
Rather sheepishly, she glanced over at the green-eyed stallion, wondering if he'd come to save her from yet another bush-landing.

Oz had seen the mare topple over herself, and he did not laugh as he knew the feeling. He was always one to get awkward in mid run, and trip over himself.. Though he couldnt say he had eevr landed in a bush full of thorns thankfully.
But his concern hit and he trotted quickly over to the thorny foliage, cocking his head, looking down at her with his green-brown eyes.
The short mane hung above his forehead, and he cocked his head the other way, perking an ear.
"You okay?" He asked, peering down at her, not wanting to get stuck with a thorn himself, but willing to if she needed help.
"That was some trip you took." He said with an amused, yet gentler smile.

Sure enough, here he came, quickly trotting to her side. He was...like a bird. Or a dog. Or both. With a giggle, she grinned up at him, her smile both lopsided and strange. Ears pricked and she gingerly moved a leg to the side.
"I know," she admitted brightly. "Mah legs just try to dance with themselves sometimes. You caught my eye, and they did a jig!" More laughter, hauling her body to fall with a tumble to the earth. Within a second, she was on her hooves once again, spinning and circling him, curious.
"You blend in. With dirt. I mean, you blend in well. No villain's gonna catch you, Mr. Camoflauge. Not me. I stand out like a sorethumb, right?"

When she started to speak, he snorted with a smile and shook his head. She was adorably cute. Possibly the cutest mare he had seen all day..and her voice just made him smile.
"Well Dancing is fun, but make sure you have a partner." He said, laughing with a deep laugh which errupted from his throat.
"I blend in with dirt?" He looked down at himself, tracing his patterns with his eyes and cocking his head at her once more as she spinned and circled him. She definately had alot of enbergy, and it made him start to circle her and smile widely. She had spunk.
"I dont have many villainous friends though. Do you have many?" He teased.
Shaking his head he winked at her. "You only stick out because youre quite beautiful.Any other reason, no, you dont stick out." He said with a grni.

Watching him, Lani was surprised at how much this strange, coltish stallion reminded her of her father, Tavarii. They both seemed happy-go-lucky, although Tav was a tad naive... Not that Lani minded much; she got hers from him!
"A partner to dance with? Never had! Sounds like fun!"
As he began to do the circling, she stopped and fell back into a half-rear, mane falling into her face. Villainous friends. No. Friends? Not yet. She didn't need darkness when there was so much around the world.
"Beautiful?" It was her turn to tilt her head, curiosity written all over her young face. "How'm I beautiful? I'm more gray than purple, my mane is crazy and all over the place and I don't have the wings! I can't fly!" Not to mention the sheen of drying sweat coating her body from the run and the dirt in her coat.

He snorted shaking his head. "Then you need someone to dance with..Just come find me if you need to." He said with a nod.
Then he snorted again, shaking his head. "Do I have wiings? Do you really need wings to be beautfiul? Absolutely not. You dont need anything to be beautiful except someone who believes you are. You." He said with a smile.
Then he iwnked at her playfully.
"Though, I must admit, I love your crazy hair."
Had he forgot to mention that he found her completely adorable?
"My names Oz, miss Thornb Patch. What might I callyou?"

"I'll keep ya in mind next time," she chuckled, bobbing her head in a nod.
But wings... Her mother, Carmine, was a thief with wings of raven black. Large, beautiful wings; Lani could see why Dad fell for such a spitfire.
Kaitou Malta, the eldest of the three girls, had wings that were flecked with purples and whites, stars from the summer sky.
Astraaelyn, the middle child, was Momma's near-identical twin. With the same peach-hued pelt and the crimson butterfly, right down to the raven's wings.
Where the feminine side of her family could take off, Lani was stuck beside her father -- not that she was complaining... Now this dirt-pelted stallion was telling her to...love herself? Odd...but she wouldn't fling it to the side.
She gave a heavy sigh, shaking her head. "The rest'a the family has wings. All 'cept mah pop, but he has no desire t'fly. He just loves feathers. Me? I want to fly. I wanna scale the skies, but these hooves of mine? They're destined to stay on the ground forever."
Lani blushed at his compliment, then blew her bangs from her eyes once again. She inherited Momma's crazy hair...and the brown eyes. That she was glad about.
"Thorn patch? Oh, there's been worse! Like this one time--" She paused in mid-sentence, looking down at her hooves like a little filly. "The name's Lani. Akiilani."

He had had many siblings, most of which had passed on during the harsh famine his herd had been through. He had had near 4 brothers and three sisters.. All younger than he, but they had existed. By the end of the famine, only he and a brother survived, and split ways.
"Ah. Well. If it makes you feel any better.." He said, walking to her other side and giving her a gentle nudge.
"I cannot leave the ground either.. But I hear wings arent all theyre cracked up to be." He said with a nod, thinking back to how he had the feeling of flying when he swam.. He wasnt sure why he felt like he was..but he was somewhat sure it had something to do with being weightless..
He needed to make her weightless.
"Well, I can make you a deal.. You trust me enough to follow me, and I can help you to feel weightless." He said with a kind smile.
He was sure she had swam before..He was even slightly nervous that she would shun the swimming, even though it was his way of letting her 'fly.'
"Your name is Beautiful Lani. Tis a pleasure to meet you."

Lani had never lost anyone close to her before; to her, a disaster was leaping into a tree or not being able to fly.
She gave a side step, her face going hot as the dirt-brown stallion nudged her. She buried her face in imaginary wings as she blushed.
A deal? Lani cocked her head, watching him with a grin in her brown eyes, twinkling like the excitement in her gut. "Weightless? Like...flying?" Her eyes widened and she took off into a quick trot, circling him, her actions making her resemble a young, overexcited dog!
"Yes! I mean, I'd love to!"

He smiled, giving a nod, happy to see her so excited to see something like the river. Oh how he hoped she truly liked the idea, rather than finding him stupid for wanting to help. Fact was,she could never fly..Unless someone helped her.
She could be weightless..After all, wasnt the air weight? He was sure that wind blowing against you was the same friction of water pushing on you.
He darted off, looking behind her and winking, his eyes asking her to follow. His mohawk blew behind his ears, and his tail stretched on for miles.
He stopped slowly, a little ahead of her, but he waited, standing next to the river waters and looking for her to appear.

Lani's ears pricked up as Oz darted off through the bushes, tail flickering out behind him. With a nervous but excited whinny, she took off after him, her hooves digging into the soft earth as she bounded around bushes and haphazardly leapt fallen branches.
As he stopped, she sped up, curious to how he would show her how to be weightless. With a squeal, she hurried after him, skidding to a stop just at the water's edge, the cool lapping at her hooves as she gazed over her shoulder fondly at him. "Okay. Show me."
