Abel knew he wasn't supposed to be there.

That, at least, he knew. But the world outside his pride's lands seemed so mesmerizing, and the mountains in the distance, the gentle, rolling fog, all of it came together in one picturesque door that he had to walk out of. He squeezed his eyes shut, imagined his mother's tender face rough at the edges with worry. A spark of guilt flew threw him, but he calmed himself just as quickly.

It was too early in the morning for them to realize he was gone. Rather, he had been with his family long enough for them to know that he had a world of his own, and he would wander off just like that at the most eccentric of times.

Taking in a deep breath, he tasted the salt water in the air. His ears flicked back and forth, and the very tip of his tail was brushing the frigid pond and making slow, coalescing ripples in its pristine, mirror-like surface. The night was only barely lifting, but he was stark in the scene, his mahogany fur plain to the eye. A mystical effluvia fell about the dark clearing, but it calmed him, sang to him, almost. He closed his eyes again and became very, very still.

Patch was sneaking around in the darkness of the last seconds of night. The sun slowly rose behind her back, making the grass cast a light purple shadow over her. She crept on her paws and knees thru the thick grass. When she grew up this grass would be worthless for hiding but now it was perfict. As she began to craw toward her pray, a small butterfly, she noticed someone else. She snickered a bit. (She's not at all evil, she's just getting carried away) Patch leaped out of the grass and tacked the other lion cub. "Did you hear me coming?" she asked as she playfully pounced back and forth. She blushed a little, hoping he wasn't mad.

Beautiful red ears pricked up as the sounds of someone coming closer surfaced in the muffled night. Abel fancied he could hear the dew sticking to this lion's fur, the strange echoes that only a dawn after rain could hold. He didn't open his eyes, knowing that in his position in the grass, only another cub would be able to see him through the long stalks. And the chances of another cub being out this early in the morning were-

Wha!

He let out a little yelp as he was pounced on, and cracked opened his eyes, his face that of utter disbelief. In front of him stood a lovely green-pelted cub, a little younger than he was. Her face tense with a guilty eagerness, he couldn't find it in him to smile, though he knew it should have. He watched as her face flushed almost instantly afterwards, as if she had suddenly regretted her actions. This girl was an eccentric.

"I-I heard you coming, but I never would have expected it to be..." he trailed off hesitantly before his eyes hardened on the female. "Who are you, anyway? That was hardly necessary."

Patch bowed a bit, leaning forward on her two front legs. Perhaps some lions thought of this position as a threatening stance, as if she was asking for a challenge. Patch on the other hand was not trying to scare or threaten the other cub any more then she already had. She was merely trying to bow and show respect just incase he was mad for her actions.
Patch smiled, still blushing. "My name is Patch. No I guess it wasn't. I got carried away I guess," she said. She looked up into his eyes and raised an eyebrow. "You really heard me coming?" she asked. She was surprised that her hard work at hunting bugs and one lion cub was a failed attempt. She decided that this cub must be a special cub to hear her chameleon-like sneaking and any other cub, or creature for that matter, would have been awestruck. Of coarse she was a very odd and naive girl, and her beliefs were incorrect to think that she was anything above normal at this age. Still she looked up to this new cub, though she hardly new him.
