Ohu : The Dog's Paradise

Founding:
The pack of Ohu was founded when a massive grizzly bear, labeled Akakabuto, threatened a small village in the mountains. An elderly hunter by the name of Gohei Takeda confronted the bear for the first time. In his attempt to dispose of Akakabuto, Gohei lost his ear and his hunting dog. Gohei dedicated his life thereafter to training bear dogs, or Akitas, to aid him in bringing the monster bear down.

His next dog, Riki, was next in line for aiding his master. Riki sired a litter of three cubs, among them was Gin, a tora-ge akita who later witnessed his father’s defeat at the claws of Akakabuto. It was then Gin’s turn to undergo the training that his father and grandfather had before him. When Gohei fell ill and was unable to continue his hunt, Gin left on his own to join a band of wild dogs who had gathered to defeat the monster bear. Led by a mysterious Akita known only as ‘the Leader’, the small pack was sent out to gather dogs from all over Japan and bring them back for the final battle at Ohu.

Gin traveled with a group led by Ben, a great dane. After many months, Gin gained the respect of Ben and his dogs. The units returned to Ohu for the final battle. Gohei once more joined the battle, fighting beside Riki, the Leader of Ohu, and Gin.

Riki was slain during the battle. Enraged, Gin unleashed the legendary Tenrou-Battouga, and beheaded the monster bear. Pet dog and wild dog alike had fought side by side to defend Ohu and the humans that dwelt close by. Under Gin, Ohu was founded as the paradise of dogs.

History:
A few years later, Ohu was once again under attack. Kaibutsu, a massive genetically altered dog, had escaped from the laboratory where he’d been created and sought to claim Ohu for himself and seek revenge for the long years of torment he had endured at the hands of humans. Gin, along with Akame and John, had left Ohu to help maintain peace among the outside packs, leaving Ohu in charge of their copies.

All but Gin’s stand in were gunned down by hunters who believed the wild dogs were responsible for the attacks on their village. Smith, a soldier of Ohu, fled Ohu with the pregnant Sakura, Gin’s mate.

Some time later, Sakura gave birth to three puppies. Weed, a Tora-Ge like his father, was soon discovered by Smith. After Sakura succumbed to her illness, Weed agreed to travel with Smith and an English setter by the name of GB to meet his father.

Upon his arrival to Ohu, Weed and his small party found themselves caught up in the conflict. Weed, along with Ken, son of Ken and Cross, Kagetora, and Jerome , managed to defeat Kaibutsu.

After claiming Ohu for the dogs once more, it was faced with another threat- a great dane by the name of Hougan.

Hougan had captured Gin and John and sent his brother, Genba, into Ohu to claim it for themselves. Akame fled Hougan’s forces to warn the dogs of Ohu against Hougen. Weed, along with GB, Ken,a nd Kagetora, left Ohu to gather forces against Hougen.

Gin was eventually rescued, but John was killed during his escape. Hougen and Weed eventually brought their armies together at Ohu. After a long battle, Weed challenged Hougen to a duel. Hougen was defeated by the Tenrou-Battouga. Weed decided to allow Hougen to live at which point Gin announced that Weed was now the leader of Ohu.

Hougen was slain by a bolt of lightning shortly after.

Ohu Presently:
The population of Ohu’s pack is made up of former soldiers under Gin, Weed, and even those who turned away from Hougen. Wild dogs and strays alike have slowly began to gather to Ohu, viewing it as the dominant pack of Japan. There isn’t a dog who hasn’t at least heard rumor of Ohu and it’s brave soldiers.

Weed continues to rule Ohu and while Gin has grown old, he continues to travel through Japan to help maintain peace between the smaller wild packs. The largest conflict that Ohu faces comes in the form of the wild apes and the wolf packs that seek to expand their territory. Humans are aware of the presence of a large pack of wild dogs, but have not yet made any actions upon them. Now and then a wild dog is shot by farmers or picked off by the bears, apes, or wolves- but those within the pack are generally kept safe and live happy lives.

Pack Religion:
Those of the Ohu Pack believe that the paradise speaks to each of them, granting them the strength to protect it and the ability to return to it over any distance.

The dogs of Ohu believe that when a soldier passes away, he or she can give their spirit to another. Their spirit offers their successor their former strength and wisdom. The dogs of Ohu can sense this spirit within eachother. Leaders often carry multiple spirits within themselves, giving them what the dogs refer to as 'the fighting spirit'. This spirit allows them to endure grievous wounds, overcome physical fatigue, and exceed the verge of death. This belief has become common among the wild dogs.

Regarding Humans:
Ohu was founded in the defense of humans. The dogs gathered from every corner of Japan to fight off the monster bears that had endangered both themselves and their masters. Many who fought never returned to the life of a pet. While generations have passed since those days, the dogs of Ohu recognize humans as both friend and foe.

To steal from humans is a sin. It invites the human's wrath upon not only the dog guilty of theft, but the entire pack and any wild dog they suspect. To kill humans is unspeakable.

The dogs of Ohu keep their distance from man, and prefer that man keeps his distance from their boarders. However- if something threatens man, the dogs of Ohu respond immediately. It's because of man that dogs have continued to exist through the ages.

Enemies:
Bears
The enemies of the ancestors remains the enemy of those who have inherited Ohu. The days of the monster bears has long passed, thanks to the ancestors. However, during the warmer seasons, bears pose a threat along the boarders of Ohu.
Wolves
It's rumored that in ancient days, all dogs were wolves. Those that turned against man and lived only for their kind remained as wolves. Those that followed man became dogs. While wolves have kept their distance from man, they've been known to kill and eat them. More recently, the wolves have stalked the boarders of Ohu.
Monkeys
Monkeys are a recent threat to the dogs of Ohu. while relatively harmless alone, their troops pose a serious threat to the dogs. They've been known to steal and devour puppies. Like the wolves, monkeys have had their eye on the paradise of Ohu.
Rival Packs?
Presently, Ohu has no rival packs.

Ranks and Roles:
Leader:
The leader of the pack is in charge of every aspect of the pack. The leader directs his dogs, assigns ranks, assigns units, and determines the activities of the pack. For three generations, the leader of the Ohu pack has been an Akita-Inu male of Riki's bloodline.

Commanders:
The commanders serve directly under the leader. These are the dogs who have earned the leader's absolute trust. Each commander has a unit assigned to them. It's the roll of the commander to maintain their unit, accept dogs into their ranks, and keep up with their training. Other than that, the leader decides the roll of each commander and his unit. Most are sent abroad to maintain peace among outside packs.

Elite Soldiers:
The Elite of Ohu are the top fighters under the captains. Every dog seeking the position of an elite must leap across a massive gorge. Those that fail often plummet to their death, those that succeed are accomplished soldiers. This trial is the last after at least one year of vigorous training. The trial is completely voluntary.

Soldiers:
Soldiers make up the bulk of the Ohu pack. They come in every shape, size, and gender. Few are turned away from the pack. Even the elderly and disabled are given a chance. Soldiers are trained by the captains, even in times of peace. Soldiers are assigned into a unit under both a commander and a captain- their duty is to serve their leaders without question.

Trainee:
Trainees are young dogs (Juvies) who have been assigned a commander and captain to train under. They spend much of their time training and joining their captains on hunts for the pack.

Non-combatant females:
Most females join Ohu for the safety of a pack life. Few enlist to become soldiers, though they're more than welcome to. Females within the pack often serve as care-takers and pup-sitters.

Non-combatant males:
Males who join the pack with no intention of becoming a soldier are often asked to scout the boarder or aid in pup-sitting.

Pups:
Pups are simply that- pups. Puppies are encouraged to watch and participate with the trainees if they seek to become a soldier, but it's not required. Pups with a combatant mother are assigned a nanny to keep an eye on them.
