so much for relying on healthy eating. i ate two bags of m&m's today that i got when i bought my books.
Don't berate yourself. ^_^ Give yourself credit that at least you acknowledged that you ate that. You are facing your troubles, and that's not exactly a comfortable feeling for you. But it's natural to feel that way.
My thoughts on the matter: Perhaps you associated the candy as comfort food. The food is seen in a positive light. Now, is it easy to give up food that you associate as "good"? No. It's very tough and tempting, and I know the feeling pretty well.
I'm not an expert or anything, but I have a suggestion that you may find useful.
instead of seeing the food as "good", your mind needs to see it as "disgusting".
xp I've learned in General Psychology that people will avoid a certain food item if that food item made them feel sick. So if that candy bar is a repulsive eating experience for you, you'll want to pass up on it.
- You may want to purchase your favorite candy bar at some crusty old gas station, where it's been sitting there, collecting dust, for months untouched. Since chocolate absorbs scents, you'll... get the picture.
xd ... barf!!
- This is something that has worked for me, but it may not work for lots of people. I have tasted high-quality chocolate. One thing about higher quality chocolate is that it tastes so good and feels so smooth in your toungue that the experience DESERVES to be savored.
xd If you eat a really high quality piece of chocolate, you get better bang and hopefully will get satiated of a craving with just one serving. a candy bar just can't compare. a bag of m & m's taste like crunchy, stale sugar granules in comparison, and you'll be wondering why you'd ever want to eat that afterwards. Also, with good chocolate, it's expensive enough that you wouldn't be able to afford binging on it, if that is one of your fears. But then there is another problem if you instead get into chocolate so bad
xd ...
- other suggestions: For a sweet, healthy pick-me-up, try other snacks! You can get those little plastic fruit cups at the grocery store... or you could make a homemade "trail mix" of peanuts, raisons, little marshmallows, and other nuts/dried berries. You can even throw in a little m & m's in the trail mix if you wanted. Keep in mind that nuts have a high fat content, but they are healthy fats too. Mmm.. I'm thinking about making my own homemade "trail mix" for those long hours i'm at school.
