Ah, libraries. Anala had many things to say about libraries, not all of them flattering. She'd have to suck it up for today, though. There was work to be done.
Dropping one last stack of books on her table, the child shook out her arms and sighed, eyeing her loaded workspace. Ranging from thin children's stories to thick, barely understandable encyclopedias, she'd gathered as many books as she could find on the topic of myths and mythological creatures. Which...was a really broad topic for a report, and she could really get to hate her English teacher for being so vague, even if the lady was kind of nice. Even if it limited them a bit, specifics were good things.
Oh, but it'll be a really fun project, guys, she thought sarcastically, mimicking her teacher. You'll have so much fun; it'll be so fascinating! And there's so many things you can talk about! Too many things! Plopping into a chair, Anala reached for the first book, and encyclopedia. So many things, you could drown in them!

Blue was stuck with Neva for the day. Again. He'd already taken him to the park and the toy store earlier this week, and neither had been a hit with the icy toddler. The park was too warm for him, the sun was bright and there was no chilly breeze. Of course, Blue hadn't known this. All he knew was that the boy was very, very unhappy. As for the toy store, little Nevada just sat in Blue's arms and didn't make a peep. The little boy hadn't been interested in anything.
The library, on the other hand, seemed to be right up the tyke's alley. It was air conditioned, rather chilly, Blue thought, but Nevada seemed perfectly happy. Blue set him down in the little kids' section with a nice picture book and wandered off to find the newspaper section. Not that he was actually interested in the paper, but a man needed his space sometimes.
What he didn't know was so did Neva. He had gotten bored and started to toddle towards the bigger kids' section. The toddler found a pile and began to pull a book from the stack, completely unaware it might actually belong to someone.

The top of the pile shifted ominously in Neva's direction, but nothing fell. Yet. Glancing up from her book, Anala looked around distractedly, eyes passing over Neva without really seeing him. Frowning slightly as she returned to her reading--she didn't get it and now she'd probably lost her place--she hardly noticed what Neva was up to, and the fact that that pile really wasn't looking stable...

Nevada, while assumed smart for a toddler, did not notice the tower leaning towards him. Or maybe he did, but he just didn't connect a tipping stack of books and the books falling down on top of him. Both were equally likely. But whatever the case, down the books went, sliding right on top of the small boy. The wintery child shrieked, more indignant than hurt, and began to flail wildly, trying to ward off the attackers. A shame he wasn't really coordinated enough for that kind of activity.
"No!"
That was best he could do.

Anala started, wide-eyed, at the sudden avalanche, confusion quickly replaced by alarm as she realized there was someone under there. "Crap!" Anala made a grab for those books that hadn't fallen yet and pulled them away from the edge, so that they scattered and fell harmlessly over the tabletop. Kneeling on the floor, she started moving books off and away from Neva, thoughts a constant stream of ohnoohnoohno--"Oh man, crap, are you okay?" Anala's eyes were slightly frantic as they looked him over, checking for any kind of hurt. "I'm really sorry about that"--because it was probably her fault, piling so many books like that. She should have stacked them more neatly!

Nevada certainly didn't expect to be rescued quite so quickly. Or at all, for that matter, but he wasn't entirely upset about the prospect of being pulled out instead of trying to crawl his way out of the avalanche. Once Anala had pulled him loose, Nevada finished the job and tottered away from the little disaster scene, best he could, staring at the older girl with his icy gaze all the while. He sniffed once and folded his arms over his chest. It was her fault then, was it?
"Hurt," he muttered, turning his head to the side. Should his vocabulary been more expansive, he certainly would have told Anala just what he thought of her for trying to bury him like that, but alas. She'd have to live with one word for now.

Watching Nevada toddle out, Anala winced but found herself relaxing despite his words--word. He might be a little bruised somewhere, Anala thought, but at least he could walk? Not that that excused anything, but... "Hurt?" Anala echoed, frowning. "Hurt where? I mean, where does it hurt?" After a brief moment of thought, Anala reached over and lightly tapped the side of his head. "Does it hurt here?"

Nevada rolled his eyes and swatted at the girl's hand, already an expert in the area of Bad Attitude. He was truly the polar opposite of his twin. Where Solomon was warm, friendly and cheerful, Nevada was chilly, withdrawn and irritated. He might even be shy, just well disguised by a very bristly front. "No," he said firmly, shaking his head. Pale blue hair fell all over his face and the toddler scowled, pushing it away again.
"Places," he said, the best he could describe it. Books had sharp edges and he was just buried by them, didn't she see? He rubbed his arm, a bruise was forming. Oh! "See?" he asked, pulling up his sleeve. She could even see the hurt.

Although Anala's mouth did twitch at Neva's hand-swatting, the girl did her best to ignore Neva's (not entirely misplaced) bad attitude. Maybe if she waited long enough, the snippiness would go away? She focused instead on his bruise. "Oh ow, that doesn't look nice," she said, hand hovering over his arm. "I don't have anything for bruises, though..." Which kind of made this fluttering over his ouches useless. Normally she would think, it's just a bruise, suck it up. But this was some random little kid, and telling him to suck it up would be kind of harsh...
Anala scratched the back of her head, unsure of what to do. If she had, dunno, a first aid kit or someth--ah, wait. Public places had first aid kits and stuff somewhere, right? Just in case? "'Scuse me," Anala quipped, scooping Neva up and carrying him off towards the nearest information desk. "Let's go see if they have something for you, 'kay?" She gave what she hoped was a friendly smile.

Nevada practically had a heart attack as the older girl scooped him up, too stunned to react at all. Blue never cared that much (Neva was, in fact, quite used to 'sucking it up' as Blue was a MAN and did not believe in tears.) and Alex usually gave him a pat on the head, immune to the ill-temper of the toddler. The wintery child squirmed and reached for the floor.
"Down!" he said, squirming again. Honestly, it wasn't that bad. Where was she taking him? No, no, this was no good. What if Blue saw? He was being carried around by a girl! Oh, the trouble he'd be in... Nevada shook and tugged on Anala's shirt, making sure he had the girl's attention before pointing to the floor again.
"Down," he insisted. "Puh-leaze." He'd even use the magic word.

"W-whoa--down?" Anala nearly dropped Neva; her arm-strength wasn't that high to begin with and the kid's squirming really wasn't helping. It was interesting, at least, since most little kids she'd seen liked being carried and fussed over, for everything. Huh. Anala tried to adjust her grip. ...And again with the squirming. Rather than drop the little guy, Anala quickly crouched down, setting him on the floor. She made a face, shook out her arms, and said, "So, down. What now, kid?"
