Welcome to Defence Against the Dark Arts

The room is dark, with only eight tall thin windows to expose the light of the outdoors to the classroom. In total the two rows of six desks can seat 48 students, since four may sit at a table. A large skeleton hangs from the ceiling, and various other dark articals are in cases and bookshelves that surround the room. There is a podium in the front and a desk to the side, both for Professor Magius.

Elijah started to whistle an old song by the Weird Sisters as she walked into the Defense room. Defense Against the Dark Arts had always been one of her favorite classes, which is the reason that she is here now in her seventh year. She didn't know what she wanted to do when she graduated, most likely just be in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement.

Shaking a piece of blonde hair out of her eyes, Elijah sat down in a table near the middle of the room after seeing she was the only one here. Elijah laid her eagle feather quill next to a piece of parchment as she got ready for today's lesson.

'Oh no not again. How can I be late for Defense?' Amelia was running down the corridor heading for her DADA class. 'Please let me be the first one there. Please' As Amelia screeched to a halt outside of the class and entered she noticed a Gryffindor sitting at a desk. 'Darn. Oh well, better apologize.' "Sorry I'm late professor, I got held up in the corridors." Walking past Professor Magius desk, Amelia sat down at a center desk, two rows away from the professor. Putting her head down on the desk Amelia sighed. 'This is going to be a long long long day.'

"No, please do not appologize Amelia," the proffesor began quite perturbed. "as you can see, most of our class has yet to run in through my doors. Has everyone decided to go on holiday without my notice,' the proffesor fumed, fairly annoyed?" magius rested both of his elbows upon his desk and gathered his hands up to message his pounding head ache. this was not turning out to be a wonderful day at all.

Lifting her head to look at Professor Magius, Amelia really did feel like the lowest of the low and even slightly angry. Amelia hated being late especially if it could be avoided but in this case it couldn't because her Potions Professor never dismissed her. It was almost as if he assumed that his students knew when to leave. 'So much for me apologizing. He takes it with an annoyed voice which means he really does care that I was late. So then why didn't he just say, "Don't be late again, take your seat."?' Not that many people were taking Defense Against the Dark Arts this year so Amelia didn't really know anybody there. The only person she can possibly offer an explanation for was Moira since they were in the same Potions class. "I don't know about a holiday Professor but I do know that Moira was in Potions with me just now but when I left she was still working on her potion. Maybe she got held up." .......

Moira rushed through the doors and into the classroom, hair askew and blushing furiously. She glanced around the room quickly and saw Amelia and Elijah already there. She went first to the front desk and stood in front of the professor. "Please, excuse me. I left Potions late, and the weather.." She frowned, and pulled a hand through her wind tossed hair. "I'm just very sorry sir." She went to the desk to Amelia's right and put her things on the desk. She didn't want to start off on the wrong foot but it was beginning to look hopeless.

Elijah rose an eyebrow as Amelia and Moira barged into the room, also at Professor Magius' annoyed tone with them. Thank Merlin she hadn't talked to the professor, if he had responded to her like that he would be without eyebrows.
Shaking more blonde hair out of her eyes, Elijah leaned her cheek against her fist and started to day dream. In her dream, she was back at home with the wide fields that were on the edge of town where she could play football. The grass was always freshly trimmed and it always smelt good. The goal posts there were destroyed like they were at the football field in town for sports, they were held together perfectly, if a bit obnoxoius with their orange paint.
Elijah zoned out from the waking world as she daydreamed, ignoring everything around her.

The class had this silent air to it. Elijah, sitting at her desk day dreaming. 'Lucky she doesn't have to worry because she actually came in on time.' Moira, just getting her things together since she just bounded into the classroom, and finally Amelia who was just sitting there waiting for the Professor to start the lesson. Amelia's anger was beginning to get to her when it came to the Professor. Yes she knew that Professor Magius was new to the Hogwarts scene but he should know that even at 17 kids will still be well, kids. He also should have understood that this was Hogwarts and that every student gets held up once in awhile either by the moving staircases or being held up by a Professor after class. 'Talk about a Draconian professor and my brother thinks he has it bad at the university, HA'

Mute rose from his posistion at his desk, his tone exasperated and tired. "Does anyone know if any other students have signed up for this class? Unfortunately I have yet to receive the proper attendance list since I was given a charms schedule on accident. There just seems to be so few of you, its hard to believe that there really is so little people interested in Defence Against the Daek Arts."
Mute looked over his class sadly. His anger toward the students in his sight hadn't been at them rather than it had been at the rest of the students in the school that had apparently decided not to take his course.

Amelia looked around the classroom praying that one of the few students that were sitting in the classroom would answer the Professor's question. When no one did, Amelia sighed and opened her mouth to respond. "I'm not sure Professor. Most of the students I spoke to this morning said they have DADA but they were all from different years. I'm not so sure about the seventh years." Amelia was still bitter with the guy but now she could kind of understand. He was just looking for students interested in the class but instead he got 3 seventh years one of which was day dreaming and a student body that seemed to not give a flying you know what. 'This guy is really having some first day.' Amelia thought to herself. .....

Lori barged into the classroom, panting. "Sorry, sir," she gasped between breaths. "There was a bit of confusion over dungbombs, some Slytherins, and a big snake. It's really bad out there." She finished, straightening and pushing back her brunette hair. Her eyes, which were a violet blue, were sparkling with excitement. "I just made it out of there before Snape came up." Lori added while straightening her uniform. Picking up a quill that had dropped out of her bookbag, she walked over to the back of the classroom, where she took the seat farthest from the teacher. She started to hum a muggle song she had heard over the summer and still remembered. "So when are we going to start?" She asked Professor Magius. She looked around the classroom, catching sight of only a few students. "No offense, sir, but you don't seem like the most popular teacher." Lori said, shrugging. "My other classes have at least ten or so kids. If I am mistaken, there are only three kids here. Excluding me," she added. Lori started to sing the muggle song to herself. "Now I know, that I can't make you stay. But where's your heart? But where's your heart? And I know, there's nothing I can say. To change that part. To change that part. To change..." She tapped her foot to the beat of the song. Like many other teens, Lori was fond of rock music, muggle and wizard alike. Unlike many teens, Lori also LOVED hard rock, metal, rap, and hip-hop. Lori continued to sing the song, waiting for the professor to start class while thinking of Quidditch. Lori had been recently notified that she had made seeker on the Ravenclaw Quidditch team and was still excited by that. A small smile broke across her face as she thought of getting out on the field and playing. Of course, this smile could be misinterperated (sp?) as a mocking grin at the complete lack of students.
