It was a glorious sunny day in the Pridelands. Birds were singing the trees, and giraffes could be seen roaming across the sea of rippling yellow-green grass. The watering hole was full and shining, and Pride Rock towered as a beacon of hope to all who called it home.
At least, that was how everything looked to Uidan Fyja. His tail flicked, and he looked back over his shoulder at his family, romping just inside the border of the lands. Beyond them the land was fertile and abundant with life, but it did not have the same air of...oh he didn't know...happiness, well being. But that made sense. He'd been told that was the land of rogues and wanderers, claimed by no pride and ruled by no one. His family were not of that land, but they weren't from the Pridelands either. He sighed, turning his gaze back to the glimmering Pridelands. Maybe his family could live here. They were good people, and kind...they deserved a nice place like this.
Against his usual nature, Fyja then decided to leave the familiar zone his family had staked out. His siblings were near their parents and safe...and maybe if he met someone, he could see what he could do to improve their lives. He wandered a long ways, finding no one, though his hopes did not dim. If not today, then tomorrow maybe. Eventually he'd find someone who could help him.

 Ugh. He was so BORED!
His favourite play-mate, his twin sister, had hurt herself earlier, and was now resting her sprained paw so that they could continue playing again tomorrow. But where did that leave him? None of his other siblings seemed to connect quite as well as the twins did, and besides - they were mostly girls. Most girls were pushovers. Even Amanzi was a bit of a pushover, although not as much as the others.
Bounding after a small butterfly through lack of anything interesting, Takuma unknowingly made his way towards the borders of the Pridelands - the borders of his home. He'd been warned, rather strictly, by his mother that venturing outside was dangerous, and wasn't to be done at all until he was at least an adolescent. And for once he'd actually listened - hey, he didn't want to get eaten by some big mean Leopard. But it was with interest that Takuma spotted the small black and gold cub making his way out of the Pridelands. If it was the other way around, he'd have to go tell someone. Or gdrag Amanzi over so they could 'vet' this new cub. But no. It was a Prideland cub, making his way out of the Pridelands.
Confused, Taku cocked his head to the left, calling out a little, "Hey! Where're you going?"

Fyja was in no uncertain terms startled when someone called out to him, in a stranger's voice no less. He froze in his tracks, fur standing on end before slicking back when his eyes lit on the little brown and pink thing before him. "Ah..." It was another cub, and not an adult like he'd half hoped, half feared, but it was a start. He pivoted and turned to better face Takuma, and his head tilted to one side a tiny bit.
He looked back towards Pride Rock, then realized that the cub had come from that way, most likely. His parents' warning about trespassing and what could happen to little cubs who wandered flickered into his mind but he quickly tucked it away. What harm could come from a cub? He was nearly the same size, after all, and he could get home much faster than Takuma could...his family was just over the rise behind him, while surely the pink fellow would have quite a run to take.
Finally letting his rather stoic expression show a glimmer of interest, he nodded his head, blinked, and gave a tiny smile. "I am going to look for someone to talk to." It was a plain statement, the truth but nothing more. Takuma was in for a challenge with this little deadpan cub.

Taku was somewhat wary of the cub, although couldn't help but admit he got a small thrill from how he'd surprised Fyja at first. Taku did enjoy surprising others - be it only slightly, like he had Fyja, or whether it was by running up behind them and jumping on them. He watched as the other cub looked to Pride Rock, clearly thinking some things over. In this time, Taku broke into a run, wanting to get closer. He didn't like shouting - it wasn't private enough for the cubs liking. Once he was a decent distance away from the other cub, he slowed, stopping to sit a decent distance from Fyja. He didn't want to get too close, incase he scared Fyja, or made him feel awkward.
"Whatcha thinking?" Taku asked, curious. Well, he was obviously thinking about something, and Takuma wanted to know what. Simple as that. At a smile, Taku's smile elevated to a full-out grin, with a hint of cheekiness. His tail flashed from side to side behind him.
"I'll talk to you! Whatcha want to talk about?"

Fyja watched patiently...or maybe slightly curiously as the other cub ran up to meet him. He was about Fyja's age, he guessed...maybe older. And pink and brown, which in his quiet opinion wasn't a good combination, but then, for this region it might be very well liked. Ah well. He could tell the other was hanging back for his sake, and to show he wasn't afraid...or maybe not a threat, he stepped closer. He'd do his best to be social, and if he was hiding something or doing wrong, he surely would have run. Staying, moving closer, showed he was out on honest business.
"Thinking...about living here." He looked over Taku's shoulder at the sight that was Pride Rock. It was magnificent, bathed in sunlight and shining. Mother and Father would likely find it garish, so fond they were of their home...well not home now, but where they had come from. In the swamps, he'd been told, gloom and darkness were valued. This land was...nearly opposite.
"What is it like to live there?" He motioned to the Pride Rock with a paw. "You do live there, right? Or is your family living someplace else on these lands?"

The strange cub stepped forwards to meet him, which caused a wide grin to spread over Taku's face, as he awaited answers to his questions. He hadn't seen this cub around before - maybe he was a rouge? He had a weird marking on his face, which Takuma wasn't too sure about, but decided not to mention it incase he was really sensitive about it or something. See - he was a thoughtful cub!
Living here? Taku jumped to his feet with a squeak in excitement, taking in the questions he was asked. What was it like to live in the Pridelands? Well how was he suppoesd to answer that!?
"You so totally should live here! It's so cool, living on Pride Rock - you get to look out at everything. You can see loads of things from the top of it."
He paused, trying to remember what else the Fyja had asked, "Yeah, I live there. With Mamma and my siblings. And Zizi! She's my twin!"

Fyja on the other hand knew exactly why he'd never seen Taku around. He was a prideland cub, and Fyja was...well they really were rogues now, weren't they? He sensed the other was off about something, but he had no clue it was anything to do with his marking. As it was, he thought nothing of it. His marks were like his father's, and he presumed that Taku looked like one of his parents.
He cocked his head, surprised a little at the excitement Taku had for his home. "It has a good view then?" His siblings would like that. But they couldn't just waltz in and join. And for all he knew, Mother and Father didn't want to join.
It was ironic though to hear Taku had a twin, and he let a little smile out for the first time. "Zizi is your twin? Ghechefuraha is mine." They were both twins, and their twins were both sisters...maybe they were more alike then he had imagined!

Taku had a wide, cheesy grin on his face as he continued to shuffle around, unable to sit still due to the excitement running through his blood. At the confirmation of whether it was a good view, he nodded excitedly, jumping to his feet for a few moments before sitting down once more, tail flashing about.
"You should totally join! Then we'd be able to look out over everything and play together and all that! I don't think it's hard...I'd have to ask Mama."
The other smiled, and Taku's grin widened, as the cub felt like he'd achieved something. He was surprised at the mention of another twin, however, jumping to his feet once more and giving a little bark in excitement. "You have a twin too!? HOW COOL! You should bring her here and I'll bring Zizi!"

Well. Having a nice view and being able to play...having his siblings be able to play sounded nice for sure. He watched the other cub romp with so much energy, and felt a twinge of concern. He hoped the other wouldn't hurt himself in his exuberance. That would be all Fyja needed. "It would be good if you could. I will talk to Father about it as well." And why not? May as well ask.
"Ah yes. She and I look exactly alike. Except for this, I suppose." He pawed at the tuft of brown mane sprouting above his eyes. "Hers is black. But that's all we have that is not the same. Does your twin took much like you? Two of my other siblings are twins, as we are." As for bringing her, well he'd have to see. She might like it.

Taku's wide grin never faded, and it was unlikely it ever would until a while after he'd left Fyja. He hoped Fyja continued smiling, too. It made him happy when he made other people smile. Finally beginning to tire just a little, Taku settled down in a sitting position, but his tial flashing from side to side still, just to let you know that he wasn't quite out of energy yet. At the mention of a father, Taku couldn't help but burst something out, since he felt he had to, "I don't have a Papa. Mama says he left before I was born. She won't tell us anything else."
He didn't sound sad, and why should he? He'd never known a father, so there was nothing to miss. His grin faltered for a nano-second before it was back, Taku shaking his head at the twin question.
"She's not exactly like me. My markings are pink, but hers are green. I've got four other siblings - but they're all different. Me and Zizi are special."

As if sensing Taku's desire, Fyja let his smile linger, though it diminished to barely more than a straight line. He was a subtle cub, totally opposite of Taku's blatant abandon. He let himself lay down when the other sat, settling one paw over the other calmly. "Really? That's interesting. Fathers can be wonderful things." The thought of living away from Umo, or what he'd do if Umo left, had never occurred to him before. He wouldn't like it, he decided.
He nodded. Not all twins were identical, he knew. "All lions are special." HIs brothers were, and his sisters. Mom was special, and Dad too. "But twins are extra special." He winked, and then, in an odd show of playfulness, he flicked his tail out, thumping Taku's side before whisking it away. His eyes glimmered a moment, but elsewise his face remained exactly the same.
