It's tough living with Ari - she doesn't let Cian or I rest unless we've earned it. She's set up a small cottage away from the village (but not too far... the Elders won't let her get away from the mountain). It's a dinky little thing. It's got some sort of woven moss roof, and wood from God-knows-where for the walls, and no floor. NO FLOOR. She said she was being decent enough letting us sleep on cots. The nerve! She made us carry buckets of water to the house so we could bathe... Hmph! I can't wait 'till I can get away from her!

Ugh. Etelle is such a brat. You should've heard her whine when Ari asked her to carry a bucket of water from the mountain spring up to the house. I had a couple - Etelle had none. She said she'd pull something if she helped. It's a hundred yards away, for natures' sakes! But nooo, prissy rainbow pants didn't want to. Ari made her anyways. That stubborn girl needs to learn that she's got to pull her weight around this joint.

Ari managed to snag us some cots to sleep on. She's not all that powerful - she was lucky to even be able to build a small house for us to live in. It won't help us get back to nature. That's kinda what we're supposed to be doing, isn't it? But at least we'll be comfortable.

Ari's been telling us how cook vegan meals every night - apparently she's not used to it, 'cause they're all disgusting. Like, last night, she showed us how to make this spinach casserole stuff and the crust was as hard as a rock, and the cheese on top wasn't even melted. Absolutely rank. At least it's cooked, though. Lots of stuff i've dealt with before has been raw. Still, I think we need to get her some cooking lessons.

Etelle's latest complaint has been about Ari's guidance-cooking, though it's greatly improved since she got here. Etelle has suggested cooking lessons. I think we should let her figure it out by herself. After all, if she's improved this much in such a short amount of time, she can only go up. Though, if she asks for it, I suppose Etelle and I could help her out. She's not one to ask for help with simple things. Ari, I mean. She's very reserved, and when she's got something to do, she does it. But if it's something all of us need to partake in, she's not shy about making us do it. I guess that's just Ari for you.

It's Thanksgiving! Cian and I convinced Ari to let us cook a big Thanksgiving dinner and I think we outdid ourselves! I made a delicious green bean casserole with french onions, and Cian whipped up a four-layer dessert with chocolate pudding and whipped cream! Needless to say, Ari was impressed. Who wouldn't be with a full and happy stomach. Happy Thanksgiving indeed - more like Etelle's Awesome Cookingness Appreciation Day! Now to go sleep it all off and regain my figure!

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! Ari finally cooled off and let Etelle and I do something nice. We made Thanksgiving dinner, and for once, I am in complete agreement with Etelle. We really outdid ourselves. Though, looking back on it, I think Ari was happier just having us settled down with her through a whole meal. That's really what Thanksgiving's all about, y'know? Being around family, all walls down, sharing food and fun and being thankful for what you've got. I'm definitely thankful. Living alone was no fun. Yay for family.

After Thanksgiving Dinner.

Ari chuckled to herself, watching the girls settle themselves in their chairs after finishing their meal.Their plates were clean, save for a few traces of french onion crumbs and a green bean that had fallen on the floor. They hadn't had a good meal in weeks - she wasn't the best cook, and Etelle made sure to tell her so with every new concoction. So, the dinner her girls had whipped up was especially delicious. What pleased her more, though, was the sight of them goofing off together afterwards.

"Mine's higher." Cian growled playfully, eyes flickering from the card stuck to Etelle's forehead to the small rim of her own that she could see. Etelle's was a five of hearts.

"No way! Mine is SO higher." Etelle grinned, drumming her fingers on the table. Cian's was a five of spades.

"Fine, no takers~" Cian teased, "And I spoke first, so I win!"

"Nuh uh! That's not how it works!"

"Then we show on three, ready?"

"Go!" Etelle tore the card from her head, slamming it down on the table. Cian choked back a laugh.

"On three, not whenever you s-"

"I win! I win!" Etelle stood up, pointing at her card. "Five of hearts! That beats your card!"

Cian blinked, pulling the card from her forehead. After a moment of contemplation, she shrugged, snatching Etelle's card from her. "Fine, you win. Go again."

"Only if Ari plays too." Etelle winked over at her caretaker, tugging the deck of cards away from Cian to shuffle. Cian had a problem shuffling - it wasn't that she couldn't, it was just that she was clumsy at it. After a few minutes of teasing from Etelle, Ari had put a stop to it and shown Cian a new way to deal, but Cian refused to anyways.

"Fine, why not?" Ari mentally nudged Cian, and the blue Pundu took a card from the top of the deck and stuck it to her forehead with a piece of tape. "I can tell you already i'm going to win."

"Why's that?" Etelle asked, after taping a second card to Cian's head. Cian returned the favor, but not before licking the back. Etelle squealed. "Ewww, Cian! That's so gross!"

"The aces in the deck have bent bottoms." Ari said, a smug sound to her voice. "And the one taped to my forehead does. Cian, yours is a seven, and Etelle, yours is a queen. I win."

"An ace is a one, silly." Etelle snorted. Cian laughed.

"Ace wins every time, Etelle."

"Why's that?" Etelle blinked.

"'Cause it's number one." Cian said, nodding sagely. Ari smothered a laugh.

"Fine! We'll take the aces out, then, and play fair!" Etelle exclaimed, reaching over the table to try and take Ari's card off Cian's head. Ari grinned, and Cian leaned out of her reach.

"First, I want my prize."

"What prize? There's no prize! How come I didn't get a prize?!" Etelle turned to Cian, eyes widening. "You set me up, didn't you?!?!"

Cian gagged down a laugh. "Tell you what. Winner of this next game gets first pick from dessert slices."

"You're on!" Ari and Etelle said together, making Cian grin.

Most of you are people that have been killed by this monster. It tore you up and ate you. You must now write a journal entry from your point of view that describes how you feel now that you know that it hadn't died, your fears for your Pundu now that it has to deal with the monster, and what you think should be done.

Rage.

What was left of my spirit was clouded in it - a thick red blanket of madness and bloodlust. Although I had tried my best to fight the monster when I had inhabited my own body, I was weak, and I fell with the rest. It had calmed me to know that I had helped, but now, the monster was back... Or maybe it had never left in the first place.

I could feel Cian twitch. It was she that I had chosen to inhabit on our trip to the beach. She was the calmer of the two Pundus that I was assigned to, and even though at times she was too caring and soft-hearted for my liking, she was the one who noticed the most. My view of the world seemed to shake, and before I could ask Cian to hold still, she had whirled around to face Etelle. Now I could see why. Tears were running down Etelle's cheeks, and she had grabbed Cian's hand to steady herself.

"We'll get rid of it, Etelle. It's alright." Cian's voice boomed around me. I sent reassurances to the both of them, then floated away to the back of Cian's mind to think.

The monster would have to be put in it's place, that much was clear. We as humans were never strong enough to beat it, but some of the Pundus were trained to fight. The Demonics could even be called upon. They were all brutes by nature, and I admired them. They could easily defeat the monster.

But my own charges... They were too young to fight. They'd have to help in the community instead. As long as they stayed away from the fray, they'd be fine. Maybe they could gather a group of Pundus to go find the Demonics. They could make weapons and food. They could even help cheer up the fighters and the wounded. Yes... That would work.

"Cian." I spoke aloud, and slipped to the front of her mind. I felt her thoughts pause as she listened. "Take Etelle home, and both of you get some rest. Tomorrow morning, go to the Elders and offer your services."

She didn't respond; instead, she squeezed Etelle's other hand and began leading her away. I exited her body and stayed on the beach to continue listening. I wanted to be prepared for the next morning, so I could tell Cian and Etelle exactly what was going on.

Your pundu is still young, and hasn't really faced death or been introduced to mixed cultures. From your pundus point of view, write what they fear or expect from this whole event, and what they plan to do to help out or save their own skins.

-Cian's POV-

As Lilliki spoke of the monster and the feared attack, I twitched. Ari had never spoken to me about her past, although both Etelle and I had asked many times. Ahh well. It couldn't be helped now, I suppose.

A tug on my hand made me turn, and I saw tears running down Etelle's cheeks. The look on her face was one I had never seen before, and it scared me. My sister always looked stunning; now, she was pale, and her eyes were filled with terror and unshed tears. When I found my voice, I tried to speak softly, though it came out much louder than I had expected.

"We'll get rid of it, Etelle. It's alright." I felt her hand tremble in mine. Then, Ari's voice echoed around me.

"Calm down, girls. This will pass." Then, she was gone again.

"Ari and the Elders will find a way to beat this thing." I spoke again, pulling Etelle into a hug. I was trying my best to think positive, though even now I could feel myself growing pessimistic. With the Angelics and Demonics here, everything would be alright. But then again, if that were true, they could've been the ones to beat the monster off in the first place, instead of leaving it to devour Ari and the others.

Thoughts of my sister and I lying dead gave way to thoughts of Brice, which gave way to thoughts of Ari, and soon my mind was swimming in turmoil. My positive air faded. There was no doubt left in my mind - we were going to die on this God-forsaken island, while the Angelics laughed haughtily at us for not seeing it coming, and the Demonics sneered at us for being so weak. I sighed, then pulled away from Etelle. She had calmed down.

"Cian." That was Ari. My thoughts dissapated, and I focused on her voice. "Take Etelle home, and both of you get some rest. Tomorrow morning, go to the Elders and offer your services."

I didn't respond; I couldn'tve said anything helpful right then. I grasped Etelle's other hand (the one she hadn't ended up hurting as she wrung my own) and led her away from the gathering, towards home. I felt Ari leave my mind, and expected to hear from her through Etelle, but my sister said nothing. Ari had stayed behind.

Another thought slipped into focus. What if, besides helping the Elders, I also made sure Etelle and I would be safe? A plan began to form. I'd secure our little cabin without either of them knowing, and then we'd have nothing to fear. My worries eased, I forgot all about Ari leaving and Etelle's whimpers of fear, and began deciding what to do first.

-Etelle's POV-

I felt my face burn as Lilliki's words registered in my mind. We were all doomed, weren't we? I swayed, and quickly reached out to grab Cian's hand. I steadied myself as tears ran down my cheeks, and Cian turned to look at me. She paused for a moment, then cleared her throat and spoke to me.

"We'll get rid of it, Etelle. It's alright." She was loud. I didn't care. My throat was burning as well, and I choked back a sob.

"Calm down, girls. This will pass." That was Ari, and by the flicker of Cian's eyes, I could tell she had heard our Watcher as well. Then Cian's eyes were locked on mine.

"Ari and the Elders will find a way to beat this thing." She murmured, her voice cracking. She pulled me into a hug, and I rested my head on her shoulder. My tears were still falling, though they were slowed as my thoughts drifted elsewhere. If there really was a monster coming, then they were all doomed. There'd be a battle and fighting, and Cian would want to fight, and then there would be nobody to brush my hair and help me decide on which clothes to wear everyday, and i'd be surrounded by those godawful Demonics with Ari bossing me around and... and... A fresh wave of tears began to flow.

But no... Ari wouldn't let Cian fight. Even though she was a git, my Watcher was protective of us, and she wouldn't allow either of us to get hurt. This calmed me. I wiped my tears away, just as Cian pulled away from the hug. There was a moment of silence, and then she grasped my hand and began pulling me towards our home. That must've been Ari's work; she wouldn't want us here, not now.

The whole community would be in trouble because of this monster... Maybe I could go to the Angelics and ask for their help. They'd be coming here anyways, so it'd be easy. I could even ask the Demonics if I worked up the nerve. Yeah... With them on our side, we'd be safe. Then I could cook and dance and sing for them! Wouldn't it be wonderful to have a whole audience of them, listening to her and swooning over her voice, and then to see them off to battle... Hey, this would almost be fun!

Man, I never knew building walls could be so fun!

I've put up a ten foot long, three foot high wall (er... mound... thing) build of mud, sticks, rocks, and a mixture of the sand from the beach and some sap from trees around the base of the mountain. It's held up well for the past few days, and should help keep the monster away from our house (or at least trip it up if it comes our way!!). I also boarded up our windows and cut little slits about face-high where we can shoot arrows out at it... Even though neither Etelle or I know how to handle a bow. But you can never be too careful, right?

Ari's been quiet for the past few days. Etelle's been in and out of the house, doing lord-knows-what, and for a while I thought Ari was going with her, until she scared the life out of me by telling me I had done a good job on digging up pits around the house to fill with wooden stakes. I got so spooked, I dropped one of the stakes on my foot, and now there's a huge bruise forming. sweatdrop Stupid heavy things. She taught me how to cover them with moss and grass to make them blend in with the ground, and then told me to put wooden boards over them so no one would step into them until it was time to use them. Whoops... I never woulda thought of that.

I'm going to ask Etelle to help me preserve some fruit and veggies in case there's a siege. 'Course, I won't mention the siege part. Maybe messing around with cooking'll help get her mind off things, too...
