He was patrolling again, going over things in his head; things he needed to do and things that were already in place. Things were moving swiftly now and he was finding himself carried away in the tide.

Either still, the pride was almost in full running order.

Almost.

The General was in place and they had a trusted magistrate to join them in their council. Ideally, Kidondo wanted another magistrate but for now there was no one that came to mind.

The Captain positions were still being decided upon but he was sure a choice would be imminent. Once that had happened then things could start getting to a state of normality. The ban on breeding would be released and those lions who were budding with romance could begin their courtings. Maybe, with romance in the air, it'd give No and himself more time to spend with one another.

Things certainly were easier now that many of the lions had chosen their paths of soldiers and guards and hunters. Yes, all in all, things were moving smoothly.

And there was no sign of the traditionalists.

He passed between the slopes of two dunes and felt the wind brush past him, sweeping out across the desert.

Zizima moved slowly across the desert, being careful to take breaks every so often so that he wouldn't become exhausted. He wasn't as young as he used to be, and he was beginning to realise that this trip had taken a lot out of him, both physically and mentally.

He had said farewell to his friend Mzimu upon reaching the lands of the Ela'wadiyi Pride. Now, he was making his way back to the ocean, and back to his mate Isilahi. He found that the trip back was dragging a lot more than the trip there had done, and he wondered if it was because he was now travelling alone.

Not one to dwell on such things, he quickly turned his thoughts to something else. He was in Firekin territory, and for once, he was actually looking for a Firekin. It was one that he considered a friend however, one he was determined to visit in order to see how things were going. After all, this particular Firekin had promised Zizima that great change was in the making.

If Kidondo was expecting to see anyone that day it certainly wasn't Zizima. He had invited the lion during their last meeting, told him of what he had planned yet he had never hoped to imagine he might take him up on his offer.

Yet, there he was.

Kidondo recognised him instantly. There was no other lion he knew of that colour, with a pelt so scarred from his hard led life. No other lion who had effected him so much during his journey with No to recruit allies. Zizima had not joined him, but he had given him some advice and it had stayed with him till the end. It stayed with him even now.

He lifted his head and gave a low call of greeting, moving forwards across the sand towards the large grey. "Zizima! It is you, isn't it?" He had to admit he was curious as to why the lion was here.

(( ^w^ I just read through their previous RP. Aaaaawesoooome. ))

Zizima stopped dead in his tracks as soon as the bright red pelt appeared before him. From a distance, he couldn't quite tell if it was Kidondo, as red was a colour shared by many Firekin. As the figure moved closer though, he realised that it was indeed the Firekin he was looking for, and it was his call that confirmed it.

"Of course it is." He replied with a raised brow, before moving to meet Kidondo. Strangely, he actually felt happy to see him. One of the worries he had had after leaving the large Firekin previously was that he would fail, and that his failure would cost him his life. There wasn't many who Zizima would refer to as friend, and so he was almost relieved to see that Kidondo was alive and well.

"I have to say, I'm pleased to see you." He said with a small smile, before looking over Kidondo's body for any signs of battle. Considering he had been walking through Firekin territory for some time without being challenged, he knew that some sort of change had definatly occured. And unlike the start of their previous meeting, Zizima was very eager to hear what the Firekin had to say.

(( *noddles* it was a really good rp! ))

Having his question confirmed brought a smile to the once serious Firekin's face. He was learning to loosen up, learning to enjoy the little things in life: the sun on his pelt, the warmth of his mate sleeping at his side, the meeting of old friends. This was one of those occasions.

"The feeling is mutual. It's good to see you too." He drew up to stand before the grey male and nodded his head gratefully. "I always hoped you'd come by but I never thought you would."

He turned his head and indicated over his shoulder with a sway of his muzzle. "Welcome back to the desert, Zizima. The desert home to the Motoujamii-Simo." He paused and turned back to meet the older lion's gaze.

"The home of the New Firekin."

Zizima quickly noted the confidence in Kidondo's face and the pride in his voice as he spoke of the New Firekin. The aging half-Firekin felt pleased for him, but there were far too many questions in his head for him to be saying congratulations just yet. "You were victorious then?" That was quite an obvious one, which simply allowed for Zizima to get his head around the idea of there being no more traditionalist Firekin. The most important question was yet to come.

"Did you kill them all?" Zizima's expression turned dark for a moment, as all the pain of the past threatened to bombard him within that one split second. He pushed it aside though and considered what he would most like the answer to be. Did he really want every last Firekin of old to be dead now?

Yes, he did.

"We were." The male let his eyes graze across the horizon; the sloping curves of the desert. He could remember the battle, remember the sand stained red from the efforts of clashing titans. He remembered striking down his father and...the look on his sister's face. Yes, the battle was regrettable and he wished there was some other way but there wasn't...

And what Zizima asked next...well, he struggled to find the words to answer. The older lion had probably already guessed the answer from his hesitation, but still Kidondo hesitated. He knew that no matter how he responded, the grey Firekin would still be unhappy. But what could he say? Kidondo would not kill unless he had to.

"No." He said finally. "We did not." His eyes finally lifted to the other male's. "I do not know where they reside now, but it must be in the desert, somewhere to the West, perhaps." He glanced away. "Those who did not die and those who did not join us left the lands together. They were small in number, dwindling in comparison to our own. They may strive to take back their lands but it would be impossible unless..." He paused. "Unless they broke their own traditions and accepted rogues or Finar-Si returned."

He hated saying her name and it was clear from the darkness that came to his eyes. "I know it will not please you to hear that but at least find some comfort that their numbers are no longer as threatening as they once were."

Zizima watched Kidondo carefully as he looked over the horizon. He seemed somewhat troubled, and Zizima couldn't really blame him. It must've been hard to strike down lions and lionesses that he most likely will have grown up with. It had to be done though, so the large grey lion hoped that his red friend wouldn't dwell on it for too long.

At Kidondo's hesitation, Zizima frowned deeply. He knew that the answer that would come was not the answer he wanted to hear. "I sincerely hope that you don't live to regret such a mistake." His tone of voice was somewhat solemn. Letting the Firekin live was a big mistake in his eyes, one that could definatly return to haunt the desert.

"As long as there's even one Firekin left that clings to the old ways, you should sleep with one eye open." Zizima then turned away from Kidondo. It was hard for him to know how to react. Kidondo was his friend, and the last thing he wanted to do was drive him away with harsh words. At the same time though, he just felt too strongly about the Firekin. "The lives you welcome into this 'new' Firekin will never be truely secure."

"I won't." He replied, confidently. "I could not justify ending the lives of those Firekin who turned tail and fled. I knew them. They'd had faith pushed onto them since they were young. Brainwashed. How could I turn on them because of the teachings of their parents? In time they will come to realise they were wrong and one day their time will come to an end. They will have to disperse and mingle eventually and when that day happens the traditionalists will be no more."

He blinked his desert-eyes and nodded thoughtfully. "But yes, you are right. That day hurt their pride and they are hungry for revenge. Maybe they will use their intelligence and stay away, but I think their pride will be more important. The traditionalists will come again but we will be ready."

He smiled sadly. He couldn't imagine what Zizima had been through but he understood his hatred for them.

He chukled, despite himself. "Perhaps not. But the life of a Firekin has never be easy. Maybe this is or punishment for chasing away those true to the almighty Finar-Si. Perhaps we will never be able to rest easy. But we are survivors and we will see it through."

His eyes traced the scars on the male. "Will you stay here a while, Zizima?"

Mercy. That was something that truely separated the new Firekin from the old. He often wondered if it was mercy that his mother had shown by sparing his life. Sure, she had attacked him without mercy, but the fact that he was still here may not just be down to luck.

"I sometimes wonder what happened to my mother. If the rest of the Pride had found out about me, they would've killed us both." He shrugged his shoulders. "For all I know, she could've been found out. They would've shown her no mercy." Although he didn't seem saddened by what he was saying, he did seem rather troubled. "I suppose it's for the best that you didn't sink to their level..." It appeared to be a bit of a struggle for Zizima to get out those words, but he managed it.

When he was asked whether or not he would be staying, Zizima looked around. "Perhaps." He managed a small smirk. "I'm not as young as I look, so I should probably rest before making my way home." He then turned back to Kidondo, suddenly looking very serious. "I'll stay here for thest rest of the day, then continue my journey once the sun has set. I don't want to stay here any longer than I need to."

He watched the expression on the male's face, wondering what he was thinking. He lifted his ears as he spoke again and nodded softly. "Perhaps you will never know, but I know that what she did for you was right, to give you a chance. If they found out, if the worst happened and they had ended her life, I think she would have died happy. Knowing her son would live on." He wondered whether he should have said anything, but decided he could not just have ignored him.

"Very well. You may stay and rest easily. No Firekin will harm you here, Zizima. Know this, too. You will always be welcome here. Always. You are our distant brother and, if you find yourself lost, we will welcome you back to the family if you ever feel the need."

He paused and smiled. "Do you have an idea where you will go to next?"

Zizima remained silent for a few moments, seemingly deep in thought. His mind was no longer an angry beehive in regards to the Firekin, and it almost felt good. Obviously his hatred of the old ways would never die, but with any luck, he could at least come to terms with what had happened in his youth.

Finally, his gaze returned to Kidondo. "I don't know about resting easy, but we'll see." At the idea of rejoining the Firekin, Zizima raised a brow. "No offense Kidondo, but I'd much rather be lost than find myself staying here permanently." Then, for some reason, a small smile appeared on his face. "If you saw the place that I call home now, I'm sure you would wish to abandon the desert and come with me."

Zizima motioned towards the horizon. "I live by the sea. The sand there is much cooler than it is here, and the sea itself makes for the most beautiful horizon. I envy no one who chooses to spend their whole lives in-land."

He smiled and nodded. "You must go where your heart tells you. You must go where you feel at ease. That place you describe, you describe it with love, so that must be your true home now. I understand. I feel that way about the desert. My time outside of it was hard, I longed for the heat, the burning sun, the crisp, rare water that quench a thirst like no other." He smiled deeply. "And now I am here I hope that I will never leave it again."

He glanced across, imagining that expanse of water, cool sand and knew it was a beautiful place.

"If you ever have need for the Firekin, don't hesitate to call on us Zizima. I'll leave you to your thoughts and rest, now. But please, come and say goodbye before you leave."

He bowed his head and moved slowly away, thankful that he had met the lion again and hoped that after their goodbye, it would not be the last time he saw him.

Zizima couldn't even imagine longing for a place with such harsh conditions. It was then that he remembered his aching paws, and his sore back from where his skin was most likely burned underneath. "Don't worry, there is not a single reason I can think of that would force me to call on you for help. I've done perfectly fine on my own all these years." While that was true, it was only once he met Mzimu and Isilahi that he felt that life had finally thrown something good his way. He most likely could never live his life alone again.

As Kidondo went to leave, Zizima went after him and gave him a rough nudge on the shoulder, which was as close to affection as he was most likely ever going to get with another male. "You look after yourself Kidondo." With that, Zizima turned and headed towards the left, where he had spotted a small cluster of trees on his way towards Kidondo. They would provide adequate shade while he rested, and then he would be on his way.

(( Finished? heart *Snugs* I love RPing these two together. ))
