I heard floyd rose tremolo bars are hard to do drop tunings with. Does that mean if i get an Alexi Laiho's signature guitar i won't be able to do his drop d and drop c tunings? http://www.espguitars.com/guitars_alexi.html

I am new to playing guitar, but I have a Floyd Rose bridge, and it is not hard to drop tuning - it's simply time-consuming, even to tune normally. You have to loosen nuts with an allen wrench at the top of the neck to tune, and when you tighten them the tuning often slides a bit off, which you then have to fix with the fine tuners. Once you do have the nuts tigtened and the guitar in tune, it's hard for the guitar to get out of tune. So, it's a double edged sword getting a Floyd Rose. If you plan on alternate tunings often, I would not recommend it.

Well what would you say to someone who thinks a floyd rose guitar is the perfect guitar for him cept he has to alternate tune. For example i want Alexi's Tone and i want his guitar..yet he does a lot of D to C tuning. Of course i will also play other styles of music which will probably require standred tuning...Does anyone have a solution to getting a similiar guitar i have posted?

if you plan on alternate tuning, turn the other way. A Floyd is only going to hold you back. After playing a Floyd Rose for over a year (and rarely did I actually use the whammy bar) I really dislike it... don't get me wrong, I love my guitar, I just want a tune-o-matic.
As of right now I can't go to a drop tuning because if I use the tuning knobs (after unlocking the neck) it changes the tension in one string, which indefinately affects the other. Making me have to do the same thing to all the other strings. And if I use the Fine-Tuners, it does the same thing... but to a lesser degree, and it's faster.
And changing the strings takes a long time as well... though I dont' have any complaints about it yet.
All in all, if you want a Floyd, it'd be best for you to find a tuning you like, and stick to it. If not, get a guitar that doesn't have a Floyd.

Well actually i was kinda hoping to use the whammy bar as much as Alexi Laiho does cause it seems he uses it pretty goood. Plus i like his tone. Yet if its really that much of a hastle i guess i'll get a non-tremolo guitar with a whammy pedal. Yet i really want a gutiar with alexi's tone or something that can get me that same crunch metal tone. It seems the more i wanna get a GOOD gutiar with a whammy bar it gets more complicated because of this floyd rose crap.
Any alternate gutiar suggestions anyone?

Well, if you have an original Floyd, it's not a problem. I happen to have a replica, so it doesn't hold tuning very well when I use it. I don't think very many guitars come with a Floyd on it... I know ESP's do, but I don't know about LTD's. And Ibanez doesn't have an original Floyd on it.

The problem with going down a whole or half step on a floyd is that you will offset the balance between the strings on the front and the springs in the back. In other words, your intonation will be off unless you adjust the spring claw every time you tune down.
Drop D is not much of a problem though. You still have to retune the entire guitar to have it sound just right though.

2 Guitars might not be a bad idea for you eventually... especially if you intend to ever use it for performance / studio work. No one is waiting 15 minutes while you tune your beast.
I have a Floyd Rose 2 on my old Fender, and don't really use it a lot... I intend to use it for a few solos here and there, but my far cheaper 7-String beats it on all cylinders, 99% of the time... perhaps more b/c it's just that much easier to tune...

The bottom line is that it isn't hard to do certain tunings with a floyd, it's just hard to change your tuning with a floating tremolo.

Thank you all very much..in the end i've decided i'm not going with a floyd rose tremelo system until later on in my life. Since i can only get 1 good guitar for next year i've decided that i will get a Rhoades Jackson PR5 http://www.jacksonguitars.com/products/search.php?partno=2913002548.Eventually i'll switch up and get a couple floyd rose's after college graduation and stuff.
