Ding dong doo…
Nicole opened her eyes and looked at the ceiling.
Ding dong doo…
Nicole rolled of the sofa she was sleeping on and staggered to the front door ready to tell whoever it was off for waking her up. She pulled the door open and was surprised to see two people she never saw before. One was a man, mid thirties by the look of his eyes, he had red hair, green eyes and his face had some sun damage. The other was a boy, probably the man’s son. He has the same red hair (only a bit longer and messier) and eyes. He looked to be seventeen. Two years older than Nicole.
“Hello.” The man said. He has an accent. English maybe? “We just moved in next door and your mother, I’m assuming that’s who she was, told us to come by once we were settled.” Nicole looked at him.
“That wouldn’t have been my mother that would have been my dad’s girlfriend.” Nicole was slightly pissed. What gave her the idea she could invite people over? “Come in anyway.” She held the door open so they could step into the kitchen.
“I’m Tom, this is my son Matt.” The man waved a hand at his son who smiled shyly. “Anyone home?” Tom asked standing in the kitchen, rocking slightly on his heels.
“Nope. My dad’s at the office.” Nicole sat at the head of the table and gestured for the others sit as well.
“Hmm. The girlfriend?” Tom asked sitting down at the chair on Nicole’s left. Matt sat on her right.
“Dunno, wherever she goes during the day and when she’s not with my dad.” I shrugged.
“Home alone?” He asked.
“Yup, I was sleeping. Taking advantage of the quiet.” Nicole leant back slightly and watched Matt as he shifted uncomfortable in his chair.
“I see.” There was something Tom wanted to say but seemed to be holding back. After a slight pause he said.
“You’re dad’s girlfriend, Lumina, said that you would be willing to show Matt around school… and the neighborhood.” He said slowly. Matt focused on a spot on the table. Nicole took a second to look at Matt again. He had some freckles and had fairly nice skin. He wore a T-Shirt, a fall out boy concert T-shirt actually, and baggy jeans.
“Sure.” Nicole looked at Tom again who smiled.
“Glad to here it.” He stood up and took out a pack of cigarettes from inside his jeans pocket. “I’ll leave Matt here so you can get…acquainted.” He pulled one cigarette out of the pack then put the rest back in his pocket. “Later.” Then left. Nicole and Matt sat there for a bit awkwardly. Nicole took in his messy hair, his green eyes and his clothes. She could see him looking at her from under his messy bangs.
“Let’s go for a walk.” Nicole suggested.
“Yeah, that’s a good idea.” Smexy voice too… Nicole found herself very attracted already to Matt. She led him out the front door and down the lane to the sidewalk. She could see Tom smoking on the front porch on the house across the street. Nicole started pointing out the neighbors and their different levels of insanity.
“Never piss off Miss.Greengrass. She once threw a can at me because I was petting her dog. Not very stable but nice if you don’t give her a reason to be pissed off.” Nicole pointed at the dog tied to a tree barking madly at them.
“You were petting her dog?” Matt asked as the walked by. Nicole nodded and brought him around the corner to main street.
“The school is that way, we’ll walk there on Monday when we go to school.” Rose pointed to the large brick building sitting on the hill. She turned him to the left and came up to the library. “No explanation required. The librarian is old and a bit batty but she’s nice. Make sure to pay you’re late fines. She HATES it when you don’t.” She led him past the police station and pointed out all the different shops on main street then brought him back up to her house. “And that concludes our tour of the spit of land known as River valley.” Nicole bowed slightly and giggled. Matt smiled. Nicole thought his lips were perfect. “You’re all ready for school I assume?” Nicole asked as they sat on the sidewalk in front of her house.
“Yeah. Got everything ready.” He squinted against the sun as he looked at her.
“Good. We have to leave at 8:15 to be on time with the some breathing room.”
“Cool.”
“MATT.” Nicole looked up and saw Tom waving at them from the patio across the street. Matt sighed and hauled himself to his feet.
“See ya.” Nicole stood up behind him and watched him go across the street to his house he turned and waved before going inside and Nicole’s stomach did a flip as she went up to her own house.

“So who is he?” Emily asked as she unscrewed the cap on the nail polish. Nicole flipped over on the bed to face her. It was later that night and she was sleeping over at Emily’s.
“What are you talking about?” Nicole smiled.
“That look you get. You only get it when you are thinking about a guy.”
“Okay so his name is Matt he just moved in across the street he’s about this much taller than me,” Nicole motioned with her hand to show about a half a foot. “He has messy red hair and amazing green eyes, he was wearing a fall-out-boy t-shirt and he’s funny AND he’s from England.” Nicole smiled.
“Smexy accent then?” Emily asked painting her thumb on her left hand.
“Very.” Emily giggled so Nicole gave her the run down of their walk and how they’re meeting before school. Emily squealed slightly and switched hands to finish off her pink manicure.
Nicole was so much happier than usual when Monday morning came. She got dressed and packed her things and went out the door at 8:10. There was a slight mist in the air that distorted the shapes of things and she could see Matt standing on the side walk on his side of the road. She slowly walked over to him.
“Hey,” He said calmly. “Ready?”
“Yeah let’s go.” They didn’t talk much as they walked up to the school. “ We should go to the office to get you’re locker number and timetable.” Nicole led him through the front doors to the office. He gave his name and the secretary handed him some papers. Nicole looked at the locker number. “410 that would probably be near the science lab.”
“Cool.” They walked down the hall to the lab and sure enough there was the locker.
“Got a lock?” Nicole asked leaning against 411.
“Yeah.” Matt dug around in his bag and pulled one out. He put his stuff in his locker and pulled out his Math books, his first class, then locked the locker.
