The sky crackled and exploded with the booming sound of thunder, and the sound of rain falling hard on the leaves of the trees assaulted Reed's ears. His pale coat was not damp, his fur being relativly water-resistant. Either way, he did think that the evening was a bit chilly.
Aside from the occasional flash of lightening lighting up Matope, the swamps were dark and eerie, not a very pleasant time for a kimeti to be alone.
But Reed wasn't alone.
A quick, low call from the buck, and a tiny flash of orange and white flew out from the trees and landed directly on to Reed's back.
This, of course, was none other than Scurry, a tiny male mongoose befriended by Reed when he was still a young colt. He served no real purpose other than fending off or catching snakes; some snakes could make a good meal, you know. And not just to mongoose.
Seeking shelter from the rain, Scurry hopped off of the buck's back and waddled back over to sit under his large friend, a bit annoyed that he'd been called out from his dry spot up in the trees someplace.

Liana bunched up in a bush, whimpering in fear. The fury of the storm bending it to her will, the icy rain pattering on her silky hide sending shivers down her spine. Each crack of thunder and flash of lightning sending jolts of fright into her heart. The screams of small animals added to this, along with the eerie darkness surrounding her. One loud crack of thunder sent her bolting pout of the bush and through the foliage, twigs scraped her skin, her hooves hurting with each step. Soon her legs were aching, but she kept running. Now she was out of breath and energy and was down to staggering. Liana then bumped into the leg of another one of her species, she managed to steal one glance before her legs, which were shaking violently, gave way to the ground beneath.

Startled, Reed's heart jumped as the tiny kimeti hit his leg. Scurry, frightened, darted back up in to the safety of the trees- where he would likely, happily, remain until the storm passed.
Slowly, Reed lowered his head to get a good look at what exactly it was that had hit him, finding it to be only a tiny filly. His ears flattened to his head, he was filled with sadness at the sight of the frail, cold little life that had collapsed before him. Reed knew what it was like to be so cold, tired, and afraid, but as a young kimeti, he had stayed with his friend Red Dawn, which he figured made nights like these a lot more bearable.
"Hello there, little one." he whispered gently. "Having a rough night? I'd say we all are, out here. Have you no company to comfort you?" He didn't fully expect an answer right away, seeing as the filly appeared to be completely exhausted.

The little kimeti curled up beside the large buck, it whimpered for a moment, fearing the large creature. She was suprised at the creature's kindness, she tried to answer but realised how exhausted she was. Liana waited until she had enough breath to answer, but as she drew her breath the exhaustion and fatigue kicked in, she closed her eyes and went limp.

Reed frowned, and nudged the tiny bundle with his nose, worried. "Little one? Are you alright?..."
It wasn't hard to notice when Liana fell in to a state of what appeared to be unconsciousness, and at that point the buck knew it would be a while before he'd get an answer.
Carefully Reed placed himself down in the mud beside the smaller kimeti, doing his best to try to shield her from the rain with his neck and head. Until he knew that she'd be alright, Reed had no plans for leaving her here.
He wasn't a 'loner' kimeti, and he cared very much about all others, friends or not. If Reed were ever to let harm come to another kimeti when he knew he could have helped; he'd probably never forgive himself.

Liana woke up soundly she looked around and released a jolt of fright when she saw the buck watching over her. She got up and moved slowly backwards. "Wh-who are y-y-ou?" was all she managed to say in her state of fear and fright. Her teeth started chattering loudly from the cold and she started to shiver violently, although the temperature was very chilling most of this was from nerves.

Slowly, Reed stood back up. "I am Reedmace. I didn't mean to startle you, I'm just worried. I don't know if you're aware of this or not, but you're not exactly looking like you're doing too great in this weather. What's your name?", he spoke calmly, not wanting to frighten the filly in to dashing off once more.

"L-l-Liana," she said, feeling slighty calmer towards the buck.The filly felt her stomach growl like a dire wolf, "A-are you hungry?" Her teeth started chattering again and her stuttering became worse, "C-c-can you h-help me find-d some-something t-to e-e-eat?"

Something to eat? In this weather? Reed would be out in the marshes if the weather wasn't so rough, but out in the open just didn't feel like the safest place to be in a storm. Even Reed found more security within the mucky groves of the swamp in times like these. But finding tasty food was a lot easier to do in the marshes, while there were plenty of plants and other tasties in the swamp, Reed wasn't really all that sure what was what. His knowledge of food was a bit... lacking. He pondered on the idea for several moments, "Well, if you'd like, Liana, I would gladly take you out in to the marshes once this storm lightens up a bit." The buck wasn't really sure what else to do to help out the filly but taking her out in to the open to get even colder, he knew, was not a good idea.

Liana slowly stopped stuttering. "T-then what shall we do?" she asked, if she could not forage for food, then she might as well do something to pass the time in a storm like this. "Any ideas?" She started brushing her hoves around the ground and making marks, this was one of her favourite passtimes. She loved making pictures in the ground of things she had seen.

Reed had no ideas. He wasn't exactly the most creative of the kimeti. But yes, the storm was lessening, and having something to keep both himself and Liana occupied would be nice.
Curiously he watched Liana, wondering what the awkward marks she was creating were supposed to be. With the lack of sunlight, it wasn't very easy to tell. He asked the simple question, "What are you making?..."

After a few bold strokes Liana stepped back to reveal the picture. "It's a dragonfly," she said, looking at the crude, yet detailed picture of the insect.

Staring for a minute or so, Reed finally recognized this. It was nice, he thought. "A dragonfly?" of course he'd heard her, he was more saying it to himself than anything. "Interesting bugs, they are. And so fast. There are usually loads of them in the marshes, they seem to like the sunlight a lot." These facts were pointless, he knew, but he wished only to pass time. The rain was letting down, and the clouds thinning.

"Yes, I think they're beautiful, buzzing around on hot days, it just makes me calm," she said thoughtfully. She looked up at the sky, "It looks like the storm is calming down," she remarked.
