Who's tried it? What do you think of it? Hit me with feedback, and be brutal. Compare it to AIM, YIM, and MSN, too. Let's see how this stacks up.

I think it's a great idea. Now we can talk to friends without having to await PM's or go to the rally or something.
I don't see it being successful for awhile until other people set it up also. I did have a problem with it for a short while, but then AOL started working again.
Just in case anyone is curious, NO I'm not on AOL.

the thing is if you are logged into AOL/AIM at the time on another location on your computer , it doesn't work!

I don't think that really counts, because I am on both and it seems to be working fine! Granted I use the Trillian service to control my AIM and I don't use Triton or whatever their calling it nowadays...

It's a useless waste of space.

the thing basically is AIM, it's got a different face and is made of flash objects or whatever but it's the same thing. It is a good idea, integrating an instant chat environment with a forum environment can really improve communication and activity, but they probably could have gotten a better result by building something for IRC instead. The system does have plenty of flaws and took me some network reconfiguring to get working, but it does work and promises to bring mass PMs soon
the idea is good, the implementation needs work, if this wasn't gaia we're talking about I'd think most of it would be patched sometime today, since it is I doubt any of it will ever be.

It's working today- the other day with AOL was a glitch- actually- you get lots of gold if you stay logged in long enough and send just a couple of messages and it is better than me yelling into the other room for my daughter if I want her when she's home, and faster than msn when she's at college - if she's logged onto Gaia, that is.

if you're chatting pretty regularly yes, but if you live it alone for like half an hour it logs you out and when you log back in it closes all your chats, which can be pretty annoying and I really hope they get rid of.
If you plan to just leave it in the background and idle it'll probably just annoy the crap out of you

I don't have much of an opinion either way. Quite honestly, I already talk to a lot of my friends on gaia through aim/msn/yahoo msg. Having one more window up is kind of annoying. Maybe if you could integrate it into your current message system (I use trill), it might be more useful to me. At the moment, however, I don't see myself using it all that much...
