Another flying class. Peri was waiting near the canyon, the elevator ready to take the group down. He'd sent a note to the kid to meet there. The canyon was much easier for them to learn how to fly in.

Chath trotted along beside Keir his dragon was not...per say eager but at least in a hurry to get to this class. Flying was one thing this dragon wanted to do the most. being stuck ont he ground anchored to it bothered the dragon. He had worked his muscles out really well. Since he had broken it during the dragon battle long ago he wanted to test it properly.
Vorel had showed him a few tricks to gliding...but it wasn't the same as flying.
Chath breathed in hard as they came to a halt in front of Peri. he forced a smile for his teacher as well a wave. Keir merly skidded to a halt and stared the teacher down wanting the class to begin.

Peri smiled at the two. "Ready to get started?" He'd yet to meet a group that wasn't excited for this class, but these two were coming close... He gestured them onto the elevator and then they were going down to the canyon floor. Once there, he got out. "Alright, we're down here because it's easier for the dragons to learn here. There's no crosswinds down here to take them by surprise. So... has he flown any?"

Chath followed the teacher although Keir was less than thrilled to be shoved into the elevator. All this waiting made him impatient he flapped his wings a bit in annoyance, he didn't bother replying to the teacher...he never spoke to anyone but Chath and that was very rare as it was.
Chath sighed a bit and looked to Peri, "He has tried a couple times...once Vorel tried to teach him to glide...I am not sure how that turned out though." He explained shifting on the spot looking between Peri and Keir.

Peri nodded. "Okay, then. So, if he'll come stand over here and face down the canyon..." The man directed the comment more at the dragon than the boy. "Dragons have a sort of instinct for flight. I like to let them try first and see if they can get it on their own. If they have a bit of a problem getting started, I know a few things that can help them out."
He glanced at Chath. "Once he gets to where he can fly a bit, you can hop on." His eyes lingered for a moment on the newt's stump arm. Well, they wouldn't be going very high, at least...

Keir snorted as he was instructed to move, he didn't respond at all until Chath gave him a nudge. You could almost see the black dragon roll his eye's a growl uttered in his throat as he finally dredged himself the will to move where Peri had wanted him. His wings were currently folded against his back he stretched them out giving a flap or two before refolding them again.
Chath moved to Peri his eyes a bit unsure if it was such a great idea to try and hop onto the black dragon whilst he was attempting flight. But he nodded slowly looking to Keir.
Keir looked to Peri his eyes narrowed he opened his mouth as if he had wanted to say something but decided against it. Turning his head back forward he opened his wings again, trying to remember what Vorel had taught him about gliding he would attempt to work that in with flying. It couldn't be that much different could it?
Flapping his wings he knew that he couldn't get off the ground this way so instead he tried a running leap. Beating his wings as he did the black tried to rise in the air, instead he managed to glide a short distance before landing again. Shaking his head in annoyance he walked back to Peri and Chath and tried it again...and again. He was good at gliding but it was like once the air caught his wings he couldn't beat them. He only ended up gliding. Finally frusterated the black came back with a snarl casting glare are Peri for an explanation.

Peri was suddenly the object of a rather hateful glare. He wasn't quite sure how to help and he didn't want to state the obvious... but the obvious was about all he had. "You seem to stop flapping your wings too early... and try cupping your wings more." He held out his arm and demonstrated, showing a more circular motion than up and down. "It helps you to catch more air and get more out of your strokes..."

Glowering Keir snorted as he watched Peri before tossing his head and then moving back into position and stretching out his wings again he then tried to follow the teachers instructions, he hated that a human was teaching him how to fly. He would rather go find Vorel again.
He tried it again this time he tried what Peri had suggested cupping his wings when he beat in the air he took a running leap, beating his wings he found himself trying to lift into the air. It ...was annoyingly...working. He wasn't sure why he was so irked by it.
Chath was surprised to see that Keir was actually managing to do it. He wasn't high off the ground but he certianly was no longer gliding.

Peri hid a grin behind his hand at the black's attitude. He could understand the creature's resentment. After all, he didn't even have wings... but he'd read enough about dragons and seen them fly, so... he had some ideas, at least.
And it seemed his ideas were helping. He grinned and clapped. "Looking good!"

Keir alternated between flying and gliding before he landed. It was apparent despite being proud of his first flight he was still casting knife like glares at Peri.
Chath gave his black an encouraging smile as he came back up. "Great job Keir!" He called out the black dragon ignored him. To him this should not be a cause for celebration in his mind it was something all dragons should be able to do. The fact it took him this long to do it only caused him to be more annoyed.
Keir repeated the flight steps a couple more times until he seemed to get the hang of it. He still had issues turning issues getting into the air. But at least once he got up and was flying he seemed to do alright.

Peri clapped for the black as he landed. "Good, good! You're getting it!" He watched as the dragon continued to practice for a bit. "Alright. Let's have you try with a rider." The man turned to Chath. "You'll want to sit over his shoulders, where the center of gravity is."
"Try that a couple of times and then we'll take a break and talk for a bit." With this dragon, he figured get the flying done all at once... Keir didn't really look like he wanted to take a break at all.

Keir was indeed a stubborn one. He would rather keep at it until he passed out from exhaustion rather than take a break as it were. He only stopped when Peri suggested that Chath rode him. He stared at Peri for a long moment before shaking his head and continueing without allowing Chath a chance to even get one.
Chath looked a bit disgrunteled but not surprised that Keir didnt stop. "We...don't really have such a great relationship..." He stated with a sigh, but was surprised when Keir came back and stood waiting impatiently mind you for Chath to come over. Apparantly the black had wanted to test his flight one more time before allowing Chath on.
Scrambling he moved over to climb onto the large reptile following Peri's instructions as he tried to find the best spot. It felt...strange... but also very interesting. "What am I suppose to hold onto?"

Peri blinked as the dragon took off without allowing the boy on. Ah, well one couldn't really expect a fantastic relationship with a black... The man blinked, however, when Keir landed and rather impatiently seemed to wait for the boy to get on.
"Whatever you can, really. The neck or protruding scales. It'd take quite a bit of force for you to do much damage to him. Also, applying pressure with your legs helps as well. Just make sure that they won't interfere with his wing movements. And, he's tough, so squeeze with pretty much all that you've got."

Chath looked a bit dubious about just holding on with his legs....he supposed it was like riding a horse. He ...guessed since he had never rode a horse before. Lowering himself he tried to find a way to hold on, although he winced as the rough scales scraped across his skin. He would need to find a better way to sit on Keir.
The black dragon shifted in annoyance he didn't like the feeling of someone sitting on him...it reminded him of being a pet...and he was no pet. Growling the black turned his head to look at Chath a moment before returning his accusing glare at Peri. He moved off to get ready to fly even as Chath scrambeled to try and stay on.
Chath wasn't so sure this was a good idea, even as Keir went to spread his wings. He looked over at Peri desperately before Keir suddenly went to leap into the air.
Chath gripped with all his leg power as well leaned forward to try and being a peice of wind resistance. It was a thrilling and yet terrifying experience. As he felt the wind pass through his hair, he suddenly felt the ground drop before them. They weren't high in the air but certianly Keir was flying. The beat of his wings were a bit loud, but so was the rush of the wind.

Peri watched the two take off, noticing the boy's apprehensiveness. No wonder, for the dragon didn't seem too happy about the boy being on his back. Not the closest of bonds... But the dragon managed to take off and he clapped. "Good, good!" He shouted, hoping they could hear him over the wind and wing beats. He waved for them to come down.
