It had been two days since he had been poisoned by the snake, and still he was not feeling much better. The wound wasn’t hurting as much, true enough, and things were starting to heal over at least, but his energy wasn’t really returning to him. Each day was spent sitting in complete fatigue, unable to get up for more than a few paces without panting racking his body shortly after. His life was weakening before him, it seemed, and there was nothing he was able to do about it. During the night, he feared slipping into deep sleep, his mind alerting him to the danger that he might never wake up should his slumber fall too much into blackness.
Would this poison kill him?
A new day had come and he was still feeling like crap. Weak, nauseous and unable to move too well. Thankfully, though, the day was cool. It even looked as though some rain might grace the afternoon, should he manage to survive that long. The cooler weather helped his breathing more than anything else- he didn’t have to pant so hard to get the air he needed into his lungs. A small victory, and one he was more than happy to take in the face of his many miseries.
Slowly, carefully he moved over the dry land, trying to get himself to the watering hole. Energy, though, was already failing him, leaving him only enough strength to get half way there before he got so tired he simply collapsed over sideways with a heavy grunt.
Sure, a nap out in the middle of the savannah was completely fine. That was what he had wanted all along.
Kind of.

A humming rippled through the air, the sound of a voice through a mouthful of something. The owner of it danced her way through the savanna grass with her head held high, a dead rabbit hanging from her blood-spotted maw. The yellow lioness looked all too pleased with herself and her catch, cream paws light on the dusty ground. And why shouldn't she be? She was a fantastic huntress and she had a nice, fat rabbit to take back to Sybbie. The question was though... to share the rabbit, or to eat it and gloat it over her older sister?
Well... much as she liked to gloat at Syb, she'd was a soft-hearted thing and would probably end up sharing it. Even if Syb could probably care less, her own conscience would start to p***k her and nothing would do then but to share it equally.
A large thump nearby caught her attention and baby pink eyes blinked curiously around. What in grace was that? Rabbit clutched firmly between her jaws, Safi'kidege trotted closer, poking her nose cautiously through the grass.

Hearing something moving towards him, Mito begrudgingly opened his eyes, peering over at the brush to see what was coming to possibly end his misery and put an end to his life. He found, though, that it wasn’t something he felt he needed to be worried about. Watching her walk closer, he took in the frame of the sunny female, the fresh kill between her jaws showing him that she had just been hunting.
Surely she didn’t want to add lion meat to what she needed to drag on home.
Out of a need to be respectful, the male forced himself to his feet, paws shaking under his weight as he struggled to stand. Thankfully, though, he made it up without too much outward trouble. Just slight shaking and a soft groan.
Once up, the male smiled, “Hello there,” he offered in an exhausted tone, “I saw you coming. It’s nice to see another lion around. I was starting to think they had all died off. No one’s been around as of late.” He then felt his energy fail him, the large animal collapsing back to the floor as though his legs had snapped. They hadn’t, of course, he was just too weak to stand for very long.

The yellow lioness stumbled to a halt as her eyes widened, watching him struggle to his paws with a wary gaze. She was exactly a big lioness and fighting really wasn't her style... but her fears were banished as fast as they'd come when his weary voice came to her with its kind words. She couldn't really answer with the rabbit in her mouth, but when he collapsed she started in surprise and dropped it, jumping forward in the grass to land by his side. The purple beads bounced against her chest as she bent her head low, pink eyes wide.
"Are you okay?" She squeaked, lowering her head to get a better look at his face. "Hey! Can you hear me? What's wrong?" Safi had never considered herself a motherly sort of lioness, but seeing the big, strong looking male fall to the ground brought out a sudden need, something she didn't really understand. All she knew was he needed help and she was the best one to give it at the moment.
The curling tip of her tail twitched back and forth, the rabbit she'd dropped quite forgotten for the moment.

Mito, opening his eyes somewhat reluctantly, offered the sweet sunbathed female a weary smile. “I’m alright,” he assured her gently, “I’m just… a little tired.” He didn’t know much about the girl before him, so he was a little concerned with giving her too much information. Sure he thought about her putting him to rest but that didn’t mean he –actually- wanted it to happen.
Still, what could she possibly do with the information that he had been poisoned? Maybe it was just better not to take the “chance” and be safe, even if it seemed silly. He was also delirious. What did he know of silly and safe?
“You’re catch might get away,” he remarked absently, as though unaware that the rabbit was dead and pretty much incapable of running away from the female now. He chuckled after a moment, shaking his head from side to side on the ground.
“I’m sorry,” he offered, “I’m… not completely myself right now. My name is Mito. What’s yours?”

Safi glanced at the rabbit with a frown, her expression clearing as she laughed and turned back to him, her face bright with her smile.
"Oh, don't worry about that. I killed it already. I don't make it a habit to carry around live prey, that seems just silly to me." She giggled, moving a little closer to him before she sank back to sit, her curling tail tip wrapped around her paws. "And its okay... you don't look good, I don't expect you to be completely there, you know?" She chuckled as her ears played to the side, turning her head to eye him sidelong in a rather flirtatious way. That was really just the way she was, never really serious about the offers she made with the way she acted.
"Well, my name is Safi'Kidege. It means, um... Bright Little Bird." She giggled again as she said it, a little shy of what he'd think of a name like that. She couldn't deny that it fit her, but it was a childish sort of name. "Mito... are you sure I can't help you or something? You really don't look well."

“Oh,” replied Mito with a gruff chortle, “I suppose it would be silly to cart around food that wasn’t already dead. I’m sorry, I don’t know where my head is right now,” he knew what it felt like, though. It felt like he had stuck his head in a pool of lava, “well that’s good. I would hate to have looked like I could offer you a decent conversation. I really dislike disappointing others. Especially pretty little things.”
He closed his eyes for a moment, his smile broadening. The flirtatious way she was looking at him had not gone unnoticed and on any other day he might have played along. At that moment, though, he was feeling a little off, making his own prowess with flirting somewhat hindered.
“Hmmmm. Bright little bird? That name seems to fit you quite well,” he responded after her introduction, “I guess mine fits me too. It means “pillows.” You think it works for me?” He asked with a laugh, the large animal opening his eyes and raising his head to look at her once more.
“I’m alright,” groaned the green male, “just a small snake bite. Nothing to worry about, Little Bird. Were you taking that kill back to someone?”

Another bright smile, tempered by girlish shyness at his compliment, curled over her face and the sunshine lioness giggled softly.
"Pillows? Well, I guess if that means you look soft and fluffy, then it fits. I think you look very easy to cuddle against." She giggled again at that, imagining herself cuddling up to his side and that thick, dark mane. Handsome boy, even flat on his back with snake fever.
That thought though made her frown and she looked him over as though to find the bite he spoke of and the source of his illness.
"Well, a bite is not a good thing, Mito. You shouldn't be out here in the middle of no where with something like that. Don't you have -anyone- to care for you?" It reminded her of his question and she glanced at the dead rabbit before she shrugged. "I guess I don't have anyone either. The food was for me, but I don't really need it. It happened to be my good luck to catch more than I needed today." She lied, hoping he wouldn't press. She fully planned to give him the rabbit now, whatever he might say, and she didn't want him to know it was her first meal of the day that she was giving up.

The male laughed at that, nodding his head against the dirt. “Why yes, I’m very easy to cuddle with. Or so I tell myself for sanities sake. Better than calling myself a big fat lion, hmm?” He didn’t mind that he was large, actually- it made him somewhat different from the others. Like his deep green coat wasn’t enough.
Sighing, he rolled onto his side, letting his belly take in some of the sun while his eyes remained on the female. “No, no one,” he replied in a tone that made it difficult to know if he was upset about that or not. “You don’t have to worry… I think I’m getting over the worst of it. Unless this kind of thing comes in waves.” He arched a brow in the kind of way only a lion can, smiling.
“You wouldn’t happen to know anything about snake bites, would you?”
Looking at the rabbit, Mito probably would have been lying to himself and this pretty little bird if he had told her that it wasn’t making him hungry. Though ill, his appetite still came and went almost normally, with a few exceptions. “That’s fortunate for you,” he replied, watching her a moment longer, “catching more than you need, I mean. Not –not- having anyone to be with.”

Safi giggled as he stumbled a little over that last part.
"Oh, it wasn't anything." She said as she smiled. Grabbing up the rabbit, she dropped it before him, within easy reach. "Here, why don't you eat that, then I'll help you get to the water for a drink. I really don't know much about snake bites, but maybe a good soak in the water or a good cleaning might help it feel better. I think all there is to do is to let it... sort of run its course, I guess."
The bright lioness shrugged as she sat a crossed from him, letting him take his time with the rabbit. The purple beads around her neck settled with a soft clicking sound. Her tail curled daintily around her paws, twitching gently. A soft expression remained on her face, a gentle, encouraging smile.
"I hope you start feeling better soon... Its not fun to be sick."

Mito smiled. “Thank you. I would tell you not to worry about offering anything to me… but I’m really hungry,” he admitted with an embarrassed chuckle. He wasn’t the kind of tough guy to refuse help when he knew he needed it just to keep up appearances. Mostly because he had never had that kind of appearance to keep up in the first place.
He was enjoying the company, anyway.
Taking a deep breath, Mito pushed himself up off the ground, sitting with his front legs spread a ways a part. Dizzy, he felt like he needed the extra room for support, his head a bit low as he looked once more at Safi. He heard the beads click faintly together as she sat, alerting him to their presence. He hadn’t noticed them at all beforehand.
Smiling, he tilted his head to one side, curious. It wasn’t often he met others who wore accessories. “Where did you get those beads?” he asked lightly, adding after a beat: “and don’t worry, I’m feeling better already.” The company helped.

The bright little bird tried not to giggle too loudly at the way he struggled to lay in a way that got him to the food, or the way he talked about himself. It wasn't kind to laugh at someone's misfortune... at least, not too loudly or too long.
She blinked a few times when he mentioned her beads and glanced down at them reflexively, reaching a paw to pat them lightly to be sure they were still there and whole.
"Oh, these old things?" She smiled as she dropped her paw again, straightening up a little to push out her chest and better display the beads. "I found some stones that had this nice purple color and decided I wanted to wear them. It took me rather a lot time to find enough to make a strand of them like this, but I kept at it. Its rather pretty, isn't it?" She looked almost shy at that, unconsciously touching the beads again. Sure, she liked them, but what if no one else did? That wouldn't be good... she'd have to put them away and find something else to wear, and she really did like these...

“Yes, they’re lovely!” Mito agreed happily, “and I’m impressed you made it yourself! That must have taken a lot of patience. There are so many of them!” He really wasn’t sure if he would be able to do something like that himself- he wasn’t the kind to try a lot of things, much less hard things that took lots of time. The lazy male had never been one for endeavors. Maybe that needed to change.
Tomorrow.
Moving a paw forward slowly, he lightly touched the beads, just to hear them click softly together and prove to him that they were real. After that, he returned his paw to the floor, not wanting to invade personal space too long, though he wasn’t a shy creature. Just a little respectful in his disrespect.
“Have you ever made anything else, or just those pretty beads?” He tried to imagine what he might make himself if he ever wanted to look like more than a chubby stud muffin, but all he could picture were beads. Somehow, it seemed wrong for a male to wear long lines of little circular rocks. Maybe he could make something out of bone.
Bones were male-like.

Safi beamed when he agreed, sitting up a little straighter as her tail twitched happily. That was certainly a relief! She'd been more than a little worried there. She tilted her head as he reached for the beads, serenely letting him touch them. It wasn't the first time someone felt the need, so it didn't bother her all that much. And besides that, he was sick, so its not like he could cause trouble or something. She grinned her encouragement as she shrugged her marked shoulders loosely.
"Not really... I'm not really someone who likes to do all that fussy little stuff. I only made it so I could wear something pretty, really. I probably won't do it again, unless it breaks or I loose it or something. It takes too much time." She waved a paw to brush away that idea with a soft giggle. "I'd rather be looking around and talking to others and things like that. I'd much rather be doing something fun than working on some sort of jewelry."
Rising to her paws, she stretched her paws out in front of her, lengthening her spine luxuriously. When she rose back up, she paced a little, thinking about that water she was getting him to after he'd eaten. she was getting rather thirsty herself, actually.

“Haha, I understand,” Mito chuckled, “as you should have! Everyone deserves to look pretty. Though, for the sake of letting you know, I don’t think you needed the beads to help with that.” He watched her, amused. At least she wasn’t way more into that kind of thing than he was- he would have felt like such a lazy lump otherwise. Now he only felt like a moderately sluggish lump.
Sighing, he nodded along. “Yeah, I suppose I can’t argue that point, either. I’m much more the talking guy over anything else. Though I do know a couple of critters around these parts that would protest and say making jewelry is just as fun as anything else. Strange little things that they are.”
As she got up, he finally got around to sniffing at the meal sitting in front of him. He ended up only eating a small portion of it, but he imagined it was better than nothing. His stomach couldn’t handle large amounts of anything at that moment. Finishing up, he got to his feet as well, wobbling a moment before straightening out. He lifted his injured paw off the ground as he stood, finding it a little sore.
