Everyone makes mistakes, but what do you do when yours is more costly than someone else's? You didn't just get caught, or do something stupid with minor results. You cannot change it, or make it better. This will haunt you forever.
You signed a contract, made a promise or oath, cut yourself, accepted something, gave your full name. To another person, this might not be much. But to Them, they now have complete control over you, to the extent of what they had you say or do.
You traded your soul, gave Them control. You signed yourself away, promised more than you thought in an oath that cannot be broken, created a blood bond, accepted a symbol of their power and thus control, gave your name and thus your very being. They know how to trick you into doing this, how to make something innocent become a powerful tool to use you.
They are the creatures most people today view as myths. Faeries, angels and demons, vampires and lycanthropes. Immortals who allow us to control the world, though they are the puppetmasters. They let us ruin it, though it is because of their plots against one another.
They view humans as tools to use against one another, or simply to use. Humans are gulible and short-lived, "gone in one faerie sigh". (Holly Black, from Valiant)

Faeries
These aren't the sweet, fairy-people in some stories. These are the Faeries from the Grim Brothers and Hans Christian Anderson, and all the stories spanning from their original fairy tales. These are the faeries from Irish folklore, about the Courts, Seelie and Unseelie and all the rest, and the gruesom reality. These are not Disney fairies.
The Fey are capricious, and all very different from one another. Some are the most beautiful creatures that walk the earth, while some aren't and look more like monsters. Some are cruel, others are more innocent. All are manipulative.
A Faerie's true name, their full name(usually three names) is powerful. If you know it, they must do what you say if their name is invoced. By giving your full name, they now have control over you. When saying your full name, they have power over you and you must do as told, no matter what it is. From simply turning in a circle to murder.
Faeries cannot lie, and are sensitive towards iron. Few live in the city because of this, though there are few who can create potions and such to help with the sensitivity and remove the poison. They have magic, namely their glamour. This is an illusion of sorts, though much more powerful. They can change anything, from their appearance to what you see, hear, smell, and feel by glamouring your suroundings. A rundown, horrid appartment may become a rival to the Taj Mahal. Select faeries also have minor magic, what people today consider trickery and what is expected from gypsies. Fortune telling(premonitions), alchemy through herbs, etc.
As well as using their glamour, Faeries can also fight. Swords and the like are never made from iron, glass or silver works much better. Their weapons tend to be lighter, such as a rapier. Light-weight, fast, deadly weapons are a Faerie's choice.
Some humans have the Sight, an ability to see Faeries for what they are. They can see through the glamour, see the faeries when they are invisible to all other eyes, see them as faeries when they masquarade as humans. Anyone with the sight is wise not to tell, as the Folk do not appreciate it. Numerous humans with the Sight have had one or both eyes gouged out, or been flat-out killed in an "accident." Some simply dissapear.

Angels First, before introducing the race, understand where they come from. Unlike religious beliefs say, the angels do not reside in Heaven, but in the heavens. There are several planes of existance, sort of like parallel universes. The Material Plane refers to Earth. The planes above the Material Plane are the Upper Planes, usually the 'good' planes containing Celestrials. This includes Angels.
Angels appear human, though they are more beautiful. They also have wings that sprout from their shoulder blades. Each wing is at least as long as the Angel is tall. One who is around 5'5" could easily have a thirteen-foot wingspan. They can hide their wings, make them meld into their back. However, exposing them causes slight pain as they have to tear the skin.
Angels are, in general, pious and good. Very rarely will an angel go on a killing spree(killing humans, mind you). They tend to try and prevent them, unless it is killing demons and the like.
However, there are some who are more, crazy. Picture Gabreille in the movie Constantine. She plans to unleash hell on earth in order to make humans worthy of God's love. There are angels like her, called the Fallen. Angels who want to purify the world, make it a better place. They do this in a number of ways, such as disease, natural disasters, etc.
Angels have some magic, though it is usually Holy. Blessings, enhancing abilities, healing. There are few ways for an angel to kill, short of using one of their swords. Almost every angel has one, what people today consider either a greatsword or a b*****d sword. They've also been called two-handed(or double) or hand-and-a-half swords. Picture Aragorn's sword from Lord of the Rings. He usually needs two hands, but he can use one somewhat awkwardly.
Angels will use an oath to bind you. Even something simple, such as 'I will' can be binding. Anything stronger, promising or swearing or using a formal oath, makes the bond even stronger and harder to break. They cannot manipulate you, but you are held to what the oath included, to the letter.
Humans with the Sight are usually better treated by the Angels. They tend to be recruited, with or without their consent, to help fight the other creatures. Humans see Angels with their wings and with a faint glow when their wings aren't concealed. Otherwise, they just can tell. There's a very faint shadow of their wings behind them for a moment before they appear as they do to the rest of the world.
When an angel has her wings out, a normal human cannot see them unless said angel wants to be seen as such. However, very rarely will angels or any other race show their true nature to humans willingly.

Demons Once again, it might be useful to know where the Demons come from. The planes below the Material plane(see post above for more info) are the Lower planes. They're considered the 'evil' planes, such as Baator(the Nine Hells) and the Abyss. They contain the evil creatures, such as Demons.
Demons have three forms. Their True form, a Human form, and one that is a mixture of the two. Their true form is as different as the different types of demons. It can be snake-like, a drop-dead-gorgeous woman, bug-like, have eight arms, be red and scaly with wings... There are infinite possibilities.
In general, demons tend to be more evil. They are more manipulative than angels. They tend to be behind random mass murders caused by accidents, such as fires, gas leaks, or buildings collapsing. If they aren't evil, then they at least tend to enjoy chaos.
Demons, like angels, have magic as well. Theirs is centered on darkness however. Shadow, fire, destruction. Very rarely does a demon have any "good" magic. Theirs is mostly centured on curses and destruction and the like.
Demons can use almost anything when fighting. Some prefer whips, other tridents, swords, halberds, anything. Most are fairly good, and few fight fair. While an angel wouldn't dare break the rules of conduct, a demon will without a second thought. Ambushes or traps or anything similar are not foreign or frowned upon either.
Demons typically use either signed contracts or items to bind humans. They include the "fine print" and expoit any loopholes possible. By accepting anything from a demon he is given control over you, which they will generally use to their advantage. Many a human has been used to commit crimes or take the blame for what was done by the demon.
Demons are merciless when dealing with humans with the Sight. Torture is a very common occurance, either until the human is dead or said human agrees to serve the demon. Not all torture, some just convince the human to serve them in various ways. Most are cruel and heartless, however.

Vampires Very few of the myths concerning vampires are true. They are not allergic to garlic, only pure silver burns. Sunlight is just a little too bright for comfort, holy ground has no effect. They don't sleep in coffins, or turn into bats or wolves or mist. They simply have fangs that they can extend at will, and are more beautiful than most humans.
The only myth that is true is the drinking of blood. A vampire must have blood at least once every week, generally every day. The length of time between feedings depends on the mental strength of the vampire. The longer they go, the more sensitive towards blood they are and the harder it is to resist. There are vegetarian vampires, vampires who only feed from animals. Most blood is received from blood banks, or a human familiar. Most oaths made with vampires are for this purpose. Most try to avoid killing their familiars, as they then have to find someone else who won't give the secret up.
To Change a human, the vampire must drain the human to near death and allow the human to drink the vampire's blood. Simply feeding off the human will not turn them.
In the bite of a vampire there is an addictive narcotic, something to take away the pain. It's pure ecstasy to have a vampire drink from you, and there are humans who work in clubs specifically for the purpose of feeding vampires. The vampire and human are more in tune after the connection of feeding. Depending on the number of 'sessions', a vampire can know when there isn't' something right with the human or experience hints of incredibly strong emotions.
Vampires are gorgeous, using that to bring them humans to feed from. Most look like humans, though they're more angular. Their hair doesn't grow as fast and looks healthier, richer. Their skin is flawless and their eyes show everything. They grow darker, closer to black as the blood lust grows stronger.
Vampires will use blood to bind someone. To them, it is more powerful than anything else. Swearing something after drawing your own blood may seem as though it isn't powerful, but it is one of the more powerful bindings you can put on yourself. If you go against the oath your blood will turn against you, growing hotter and hotter each time you start to break it before it will finally boil, killing you.
Vampires have very little magic, aside from showing and hiding their fangs. Some have a small aptitude for spells, mostly concerning hiding or the like, occasionally destruction. Nothing as big and dramatic as a demon's spells.
Vampires, like Faeries, use lighter, faster weapons. However, they can use anything, though nothing as exotic as a demon. Whips, rapiers, scimitars, katanas, longswords, anything in between... They do prefer sneakier attacks rather than flat out attacking, so trickery, traps, and cheating is to be expected depending on the vampire.
Humans with the sight are treated differently depending on the vampire. The simply see a faint aura that shows that they are vampires, and there is a faint ghost of where their fangs would usually be. Some torture, some ignore the human. It depends on the vampire.

Lycanthropes Who hasn't heard of a werewolf? Howling at the moon, turning into a blood-thirsty rabid thing at the full moon, infecting or killing people left and right, only to be killed by silver bullets. Yea right.
Lycanthropes are not only werewolves. There are werecats, werehawks, wererats, werebear... Were-anyanimalyoucanthinkof. Were-platypus even, though there aren't many of those. Most are predators, wolf, panther, bear, hawk, etc.
A Lycan has three forms. A human form, an animal form, and a hybrid. Human looks human, animal looks like a normal animal, and the hybrid is a mix of the two and your "typical" Were.
Lycans have no set personality. Most tend to be driven, to seem to have this hidden, unbelievable strength and hunger, or anger, beneath their usual exterior. They do tend to be more aggressive, though the older ones can control it.
Unlike the stories, the moon has nothing to do with a lycan turning into their animal, or a mindless raving beast. Their will controls it, though anger or strong emotions will tend towards a hybrid or animal form. As mentioned before, a strong will can subdue the internal anger.
A Lycan cannot turn another human into a lycan easily. There's a in depth ritual requiring the animal spirit among other things to turn the human. A simple bite will not sufice.
Lycans have no magic, aside from their shapeshifting. Also, their strength and speed are much greater than that of an average human.
When fighting, and using normal weapons, they tend towards weapons fitting of their animal. The larger, straightforward animals take larger weapons, smaller sneakier ones smaller swords or daggers. It all depends on what the animal is and what the lycan's preference is.
Usually, an oath is used to bind a human to a lycan. Various other methods may be used, but an oath, or a blood oath in particular, are used.
Lycans, like vampires, tend to not care about humans with the Sight. Humans see a faint aura that will show the animal of the lycan. The Lycans though, tend to rarely do anything to the humans.

Humans The most populous race, the "highest". Humans rule the earth at the moment, clueless to the existance of the other races. They stupidly fight against each other, keeping themselves blind to the existance.
Humans are as they are today, though in this rp there will be little use of guns, bombs, grenades, or any of the other various modern technology.
However, they are still, in general, stupid. The teens or younger adults sell themselves to these creatures, giving their souls and whatnot in return for various things. Power, wealth, cures, magic, immortality. Some have "good" wishes, others are simply tricked. But they somehow they still wind up in the service of the mystical creatures.
