Marut yawned from her place in the grass, watching an ant crawl along her leg. It was a light, ticklish sensation as the tiny creature ambled around, and eventually she leaned in and with a little puff, sent it sailing back onto the ground where it belonged.

Her tail lazily flicked, her back was being warmed by the sun which had decided to come out on this autumn day, and her belly was getting damp from the still wet grass. She eventually flopped over on her side, thinking that if she had nothing better to do, or no one to play or even talk with, she would take a nap.

She yawned again, angling her head so that she could watch the clouds scudding over head.

Some days he wasn't sure if he preferred being an adult, or a youngster... Sure everything had looked so big when he was smaller, but now, he had to be careful when he walked anywhere. The top of his head was still smarting from the last whack it had taken from a low hanging branch.

"Hmm.. at least small bushes are no longer big enough to be obstacles.." The big stallion murmured to himself as he padded through the open woodland, heavily feathered hooves brushing through the undergrowth with ease. Lowering his head he carefully ducked under one of the many too-low branches that seemed to have made it their mission to make his travailing just that wee bit more painful.

"OWW!" Brought up short by a savage pull on his long braid the stallion quickly backed up a couple of steps. Lifting his hind hoof off the end of his mane, that when he lowered his head, had trailed along the ground enough to get stood upon.

Glaring at the offending deep-green hair he mumbled to himself about impracticality. Shaking his great head the stallion flung the braid up and across his back with a practiced move. "And stay there.." he grumbled, giving the trailing end a glare before resuming his walk.

The only thing with the braid across his back was that it tickled his sensitive wings. Causing him to ruffle them frequently to dislodge the strands of green that got caught. Finally, and with great relief, he escaped the woodland and emerged into a sunny pasture. Lifting his head, the purple cloth round his neck shifting with his movements, he let his wings unfurl, the great shimmering appendages stretching out several meters each side, their dark-green tipped flight feathers glossy in the warm light.

After giving a couple of powerful flaps to resettle the feathers more comfortably, he furled them back at his sides and out the way. Ears pricked forwards as he surveyed the new area. To think it was so close to home and yet he’d never been here.. but then, he supposed there were many places he had never been.

Marut wriggled, trying to scratch an itchy spot right in the middle of her back on the ground.

'Daaamn,' she muttered, squinting, tongue poking out the side of her mouth as she carried on wiggling on the ground, tail spread over the grass, and her legs pedalling in the air. She resembled a stuck bug. Finally she managed to catch the itchy part on a rough stone, and she made a contented noise as scratched away.

The annoyance dealt with, she rolled over, standing and shaking out her mane and tail, a shower of grass blades and early fallen leaves falling to the ground. Most still stuck in amongst the hair, so she looked a little like a Soquili-scarecrow.

'Mum is going to kill me.' she grinned to herself, casting a look around.
'Huh..' she hadn't seen the Soquili before she'd lain down, and so he must have just arrived. She trotted over to say hello, especially once she saw he was winged. Wings were the one tiny thing she envied, especially as her scaredy cat sister had them and didn't use them much.

Turning his head to survey the open grassland he spotted someone trotting towards him. Arching a brow he watched, wondering what had them in such a hurry, and where they were going. Glancing behind he checked to see if there was a pathway, but nope, he had been walking through the forest where ever he felt like it, there was no special path or anything. So..... it.. or rather she, as he could tell now she was closer, was coming to see him?

Standing stock still, all four hooves planted like trees, he watched the female approach. He wasn't too experienced meeting other soquili, the few he had, had never stuck around very long. At least not after they heard his father talking of Demon Kings and the like.

Somewhat awkwardly he lowered his head in greeting as she drew close, his long braid slithering from its precarious perch across his withers to fall once again against his shoulder and trail along the ground. He gave it a brief glare before looking back at the mare. "... Greetings." His deep voice rumbled. He was somewhat larger than her, having taken his build and height from his father and not their flutter mother.

Marut was deceptive; she was built like her mother, quite small but she still managed to kick her brother's butts every now and then in a play-fight. The winged stallion just ahead was taller, and heavier looking than she was, but he didn't seem to have quite the same confidence, not from his initial body language at any rate.

She stopped a few paces away from him, watching as he bowed, the heavy mane of his dropping forwards, obviously causing him the same amount of annoyance that her erstwhile fringe did. Speaking of..she flicked her head, throwing the hair from her eyes to reveal the bi-colouredness of them, and nodded her head in return.

'Hey there.' she said, giving him a friendly, and slightly cheeky smile. He was done up very fancy she noticed, with draped cloth and even a pendant. She felt such a little scruff against him, which made her smile wider.
'How are you? Not seen you around before I am sure.'

The stallion watched her, almost-black gaze serene, as if nothing could ruffle him though it was far from the truth. That dark gaze drifted slightly, drawn by the unusual markings that covered the mare. She reminded him of what he had imagined the ancient scrolls of his father's past might look like, that was, until she flicked her hair from her eyes, drawing his back to the mare's own with a slight flush of embarrassment.

Her question surprised him, making him tilt his head slightly as he regarded her. She was striking.. in a way he had not seen before. Apart from her markings, her eyes were two separate colours.. most unusual.

"Ah, I am well. Thank you for your concern Miss." He rumbled in reply, pausing briefly before adding. "And yourself?" His speech was not like your every day soquili, it had something almost classical about the way he sounded his words. As if each one was spoken with a careful deliberateness.

He paused for a moment in thought, before continuing. "My name is Ehren Shibuya." He added by way of an introduction. It was obvious that he wasn't used to meeting strangers, the way he stood still and unmoving, watching her almost as if puzzled.

Pretty much everyone she met gave her a long look, she wondered if there was something into this attractive thing that her mother had said she was..either that or they were wondering if there really was a mare beneath all that dirt!

'Good, I'm good.' Marut replied, giving him a grin. He spoke in a pretty way as well, sort of like Raniero but not in quite such a long winded way.
'Just out and about, looking for anything interesting to pass the time.'

'Marut. Is me.' she added, obviously it must be her, but she had such a little name in comparison to his, she thought he might assume she was just making a funny noise

The tall stallion gave a slow nod as the mare replied, his shaggy fringe drifting forwards to get into his eyes, causing him to automatically shake his head, a move that was clearly one he did frequently as his dark eyes never left her own.

"Have you been successful in your hunt?" he asked, that deep rumbling voice soft despite the echo of strength within it. One ear flicked briefly as she spoke her name, the stallion contemplating it for a moment as he flicked his thick tail slowly against one flank.

"Mahrut Ismei?" He rumbled in question, drawing out the sounds she had spoken, his slightly unusual accent giving them a rounded, softer feel even as he mistook her explanation of the short name as a name itself.

Unconsciously he flexed one wing to settle the feathers that were uncomfortable, the glossy dark green tips shimmered like a raven’s wing in the sunlight as he tucked it back against his side, not even truly aware he had moved it.

Marut watched as Ehren made a move that she was just as practised in. They could even take part in a synchronised sport, and she nearly said that out loud. Though it was a silly thought, and she just gave a small grin at her daft musings.

'Until now? No.' the mare winked at the stallion, he was interesting in her mind, and maybe if he relaxed a little she could persuade him to take part in some games, a race or anything like that.

'No, no,' she hastily corrected.
'My name is just Marut. But you have a big name..' she didn't want to say fancy, he might think she was making fun of it.
'So I was worried you would think my name was a silly short one.'

The movement of his wings caught her eye, and she nodded at them;
'My mother has wings, feathered ones like yours.'

The stallion tilted his head slightly as the mare closed one eye for a second. He wondered if perhaps she had gotten something in it, a bit of dirt or a hair maybe.. but he didn't think she would appreciate him asking, so he kept quiet. He didn't want her to think him rude.. he hoped that maybe, she wouldn't mind staying a little bit longer. The thought surprised him as soon as he recognised the wish within his mind. It was rare that he desired company other than his family. He was typically too nervous to truly enjoy a stranger's presence, but her smile was easy and she seems not to notice his oddness. Or mayhaps she was just too polite to point it out. Either way, he found himself grateful.

Pale ears pricked forwards. "Mahrut.. " He replied, committing it to memory. "My apologies, and I do not think you name is silly or short.. it is a nice name." He moved his head to the side slightly in thought. "Shibuya is my father's surname. My own name is just Ehren... " He paused a moment, glancing to one side.. "It is short too..." He added, voice softer than before as he cleared his throat, looking back at her.

"Ah..." He looked back at his wing as she mentioned it, extending it out to its full length as if he had never considered it before. The glossy white limb was muscled, clearly powerful, and stretched out at full length it was far bigger than one would guess when they were tucked at the stallion's side. "Our father has these wings.. our mother is a flutter. The eldest has flutter wings, but me and our middle brother have these fathered ones." He seemed to relax a little as he spoke of his family, a subject he was clearly at ease with.

It was a good thing he was interesting looking, and that she wasn't mean enough to turn hoof on somebody because they were quiet. She took the opportunity between his words to look him over again, her eyes falling on the sun-like marking on his face. She didn't find anything odd about him, just wondered at his, what was it? Shyness? She wondered that anyone possessing good looks could be shy (despite not believing in her own appearance, Marut was able to appreciate attractiveness in others).

'Thanks Ehren.' she smiled again, trying to look friendly so that he would relax. Tense Soquilis did not generally play as a rule.
'I see, I don't think my father has a surname? He's not told me he has at any rate.'
Neither did her mother. Was her family strange, or was it his that was the rarity?

'Yes? My father is a grounded, so are two of my brothers. My sister has feathered wings, my brother has..wings.'
She didn't want to yet reveal that she had Kalona lineage, she might not look it but that was what she partly was.

Ehren dipped his head in a slow nod briefly, ears flicking forwards at her smile. She seemed nice enough, not that he had really ment enough soquili to have any expectations.. but so far it had been a plesent meeting.

"My pleasure, I only speak the truth." He replied. "Our mother has no surname either.. it seems to be something unique to our father.. as far as I know. He ...." Ehren suddenly stopped, cutting off his words with a slightly startled look.

He had almost told her of his father's stories of his previous existance.. something he had discovered generally made others look at him and his family oddly before politely excusing themselves, never to be seen again. He didn't want Marut leaving like that... she was being nice to him and it was.. felt.. plesent talking to her.

Clearing his throat after his stumble he offered her an unpracticed smile, small though it was. He listened to her silently, dark eyes contemplative. "You seem to have a .. large family?" He asked softly, hoping it wasn't a rude question. One heavily feathered hoof shifted casually under his weight, long tail swaying slowly.

'He?' Marut prodded a little, sensing there was an unfinished end to that sentence. She would only pry a little though, if he didn't want to tell, that was far enough. He'd only just met her, and she could tell that he wasn't the outgoing kind.

'I guess? I don't know what you would consider large,' she replied with a smile, realising a subject change when she heard one.

'I have four brothers, two older, and one older sister. Parents, well obviously.' she chuckled.
'And relatives on my Uncle's side, and more on one of my Grandfather's.'
Neve had told her of her Grandfather Guilian's ways, and so she fully expected one day to bump into one of the many half-relatives she was meant to have.

Ehren glanced down, a wing shifting slightly. ".... He kept it from his past existence.... " The stallion murmured under his breath in reply to her gentle prodding, almost as if he hoped she would ignore the comment. Though he was too inexperienced in conversing with a stranger to with hold information on purpose, if she thought it weird, he hoped she would overlook it.

The stallion's body relaxed as she continued along a different line of conversation, though the male himself was unaware of his own reactions to her. "So you have five siblings? That sounds like a big family. There is only the three of us along with our parents in my family. Though our mother has an adoptive mom herself.. I am not sure of any others." He had never gone out of his way to find out either.. having always been something of a quiet and thoughtful youth. A trait that seems to have grown with him as he gained in years, and height.

Ehren's speech was growing less stiff, a little more relaxed, though the stallion himself was still reserved as if he was unused to expression much emotion or maybe didn't even know how to.

Marut wasn't sure if she'd heard Ehren properly, but it sounded like he said 'past existence'. What was that? She knew what both the words meant, but together they didn't form anything she had a mental reference for.

'What do you mean by that?' she inquired, more curious now. She noted his body language changing as was glad for it, she knew that she didn't look particularly frightening a Soquili..well, maybe only just before grooming day!

'Maybe it is, I don't know other families too well to compare,' she gave a small shrug.
'So you're unmated then, no family of your own making?' Marut didn't want to know for any hidden reason, it was just an easy topic of conversation for the stallion.
