He was on the borders again, the grey eyes always peering past them towards the heart of the pride. Had they all returned? Should he go back there...? A pang in his heart told him, pleaded with him to go, but his mind feared to come in contact with the same eyes that plagued the nightmares he endured most every night. Arun cringed, turning his head quickly as he headed back towards the small bush he had been hiding under since he returned.

He had to have gotten bigger. The bush was much larger than him when he first came back, but now, he could barely keep all body parts under cover. One of these days he needed to search around here for another hiding spot, until he could go back into the lands.

Laying cramped under the vegetation, the only thing noticable to a passer by would be the dark-orangish color tail with the cream tail tuft.

The young lioness loped along at a leisurely pace, her face contorted into a mask of irritation. She and Kisirani hadn't spoken since she had arrived back in the pride, though she wasn't sure if it had to do with the state they had left things between them or if it had to do with the fact that there was much to be done within the pride itself. She had accepted the duty as temporary guard, and was thus loping along on patrol, paying heed to watch she saw though she did allow her mind to wander. Duty always came first, she knew, but where Kisirani was concerned, sometimes it was hard to control the thoughts that ran through her head - it was hard not to have the lioness at her side. They had always been so close, like sisters, and that thought only stirred worse ones in her head. What had happened to her family?

That was when she saw it, the little slender orange object protruding from the bush. At first, she assumed it was only a snake, but then she noticed the fluffy blond tuft at the end and that caused her to furrow her brows in some confusion. Snakes weren't furry, at least not any she had ever seen. "Hey, who goes there?" she called out, to trapped in her own thoughts to even recognize the sight for what it was.

As he heard footsteps padding closer to ‘his’ bush, he held his breath. They were near…He listened, waiting and hoping for the steps to continue past him, but when they stopped, his fear only rose. Arun craned his neck, noticing a part of his body hadn’t been concealed by the bush. His dark tail with the cream tuft was out still.

Shoot.

His tail couldn't have been something of a green color, or all the same color so it could be deferred as something else. Nooo it had to be that certain color with that certain hair. Great to his luck.

Hearing the voice call to him, he noted the tone, taking a small, quiet breath every now and then. It wasn’t a gruff sound, but should he take any chances? He curled himself into a ball, grabbing the base of his tail, pulling it away from sight, before glaring profusely at it. Bad Tail.

”No one’s home at the moment, please try back later,” He said with his still cub-like voice. It was worth a shot, right?

She saw the rustling of the bush and the motions of movement behind it. She figured that whatever it was, whoever it was, they couldn't be very large - the bush wasn't really that big. Thus, she knew that it couldn't be much of a threat, but the fact that the creature was still choosing to hide was a bit troublesome. With a sigh, she padded a bit closer, narrowing her eyes on the bush as if she could see the figure within more easily that way.

As the voice came, however, realization slowly spread across her mind. Her features gave way from troubled to surprised, and her mouth hung slack for a few moments of silence. She tried desperately not to get her hopes up, in case her mind was playing tricks on her, but somehow, she didn't think that that voice could be mistaken for anyone else's. "Arun?" she asked, cautiously taking a step forward once more.

Darn it didn't work, but that voice knew his name...

How...? He stuck his nose under the bush, sniffing the scent of the female, before two gray eyes appeared afterword. It couldn't be...His eyes widened before he slunk out of the green bush, a submissive position all the way. "C...Chandana?" he whispered, shaking from anxiety, fear and even excitement. "I..is it really you?"

But the orangish brown male didn't wait for an answer, he lunged for his sister, trying to wrap his small paws around her adult form. She was alive!

"I thought you were dead! I couldn't find you when mom and dad..." his voice faded, turning to look away from the female. She probably knew where his sentence was going, seeing as small tears threatened to flow over his eyes. Witnessing your parents' death wasn't something a child should see.

Chandana felt her world turn topsy-turvy in that one moment, all thoughts of Kisirani vanishing, all worries thrown to the wind as her brother's voice reached her ears. It was hard to believe, after so long, that she still had some family left. As he lunged at her, she braced herself and leaned down to nuzzle him, feeling a p***k that foreshadowed tears to come behind her eyes. She sat slowly then, drawing him to her, forgetting her duty, the need to patrol, all of it.

"I thought the same thing, darling," she whispered brokenly, Arun's own words confirming just what she had assumed of her parents. She had left with Kisirani, leaving Arun behind with them, and she had heard from a few that they hadn't made it. Until now, she thought that had included her baby brother as well. "Oh, but I'm here now," she said, choking back the urge to cry as she pulled him closer to her, as if she'd never let his smaller form go.

“Don’t leave me,” he clutched tighter his sister’s form, fearing she would up and leave, leaving him on his own once again. It wasn’t that Arun couldn’t take care of himself, he just now knew a part of his family was alive, and he was going to try as hard as possible to stay together now.

“Is everyone back?” His tail flicked behind him as he inched away from his sister ever so slightly. The length of time he had been hiding was a mystery, but if Chandana was here, did that mean others were as well? Did this mean the threat was finally out of the land, and it could once again be established into a great pride? Gray eyes watched his sister’s carefully, trying to read her expression before any words left her maw.

"I won't, I won't," she promised, without a moment's hesitation. Now that she was finally reunited with a member of her family that she had thought was gone there was nothing in the world that would separate the two of them again, of that she was sure. Come whatever, she would protect him until he no longer needed her - she wouldn't make the same mistake again.

"Some of us," she said softly, offering him the most reassuring smile that she could. "They are building the pride back again, slowly," she pulled him closer to her, leaning her chin down atop his head and burying her face into his little blond mane tuft. "There are not as many as there were, but there is only so much to be done until everyone comes home. Every day brings something new." The last words were said with affection, as she obviously thought that this day had brought the most precious thing of all.

Good, she wasn't going to leave him. It felt oddly strange the need he had for her right now, as if this was the last time he would ever see her. Arun continued to smile, a sigh of relief emitting from his juvenille form. Gray eyes looked around at the land he use to play in so happily as a cub what just seemed like yesterday. At least that part hadn't changed much. No longer did he see the cubs playing around.

His dark ears flicked. Only some? Well, at least he didn't feel like a total nutjob for hiding for so long; but he though he had a good reason too. With his head held up high, he spoke quickly, "I want to help rebuild!" It was an enthusiastic reply, and the small feline wanted to help protect the pride (even if his size limited him somewhat).

As he was pulled closer to his sister, he purred. Although Chandana wasn't mother, her hugs were just like their mom's.

It was hard for Chandana to believe, after so long, that part of her family was still alive. For the longest time she had believed that it was only her, alone in this pride now. She was proven wrong and all of a sudden, a surging need to protect him from this ever happening to them, to him, again welled up within her. She would never, ever let them become separated.

"Arun," she began, about to tell him that he was too young to help, about to chide him for such silly thoughts. The fact of the matter was that he was not such a cub anymore. Indeed, soon he would be old enough to no longer be considered a cub at all and then what would she be able to do? No, she could not protect him from his duties, and that went against the pride's beliefs besides. "You can help by going back to the pride with me and starting your training like a good boy," she said softly, brushing back his mane tuft as she stared down at him affectionately. He was going to grow up quickly, she knew, but at least she was around to see it happen.

Arun's gray eyes looked back to the smaller bush situated behind him. He frowned for a second, before returning his glance to his older sister. "I was looking to find a new bush anyways. Perhaps I could upgrade to a den instead?" He smiled towards his sister, his bottom wiggling playfully. It was a nice feeling to be able to not fear for his life everyday; now that Chandana was alive, he was able to act like his old self.

"I'll do that!" He said happily. "And I'll make you proud!" He chuckled, bobbing his head up and down in a nod. His eyes drifted to the sky as he thought, Mom and Dad, I hope you are watching, because I want to make you proud as well.

She couldn't help the small peal of laughter that broke free from her jowls, even as she dwelled in the finality of her parents' deaths. He had always been such a happy cub and she was pleased to see that nothing had changed him, that he could be just as carefree and joyous as he ever was. He was all she had in the world, but he made that world so much brighter. "Yes," she said, her words still filled with the tinkling of laughter, "you can certainly upgrade to a den now."

She pushed herself slowly up to her feet, nipping his mane lightly before nudging his side with her nose. "Come on, then, let's go home." She would need to speak to one of the kings about her brother returning, that she knew, and she was sure he hadn't had a proper meal in ages. She turned to head back towards the pride itself, glancing over her shoulder as she did so to make sure he was following.

How quickly life could turn around.

Home...

Arun gaze towards the bush he had stayed in the last weeks before shaking his head. He debated taking a few leaves as a 'memory' but thought against it. With a smile on his maw he watched his sister.

"Coming!" He giggled, bounding after his sister in a bouncy gait. Things were starting to perk up now!
