Just exactly as the title says. What did you make, buy, do or learn today? I believe that having some good skills might be really valuable in the years to come, considering the current economic climate. It helps to learn something that you normally would not be interested in or trying something different. Here I can give some ideas for this thread, since I saw this in a completely different forum, and it really got me thinking since I believe in improving my life.
Did you learn a new skill like cooking or woodworking? Did you buy something that would help you or your family in an emergency? Did you make something like your own clothes or soap? Did you do any gardening or buy some books that are informational?
I will start off. Today, I am reading some new books that I had bought last week. One is on how to make candles, and the other is on soapmaking.
Maybe it is a good idea to turn off the tv these days and work to improve things.

I harvested from the garden and tried out a new method to revive my summer squashes (by cutting off all the dead and diseased bits and then covering them in dirt to promote root growth)
I discovered my nasturtiums have seed buds and found a recipe for making "capers" from the nasturtiums. I'm hoping to get more before I make them.
I started the process of making tomato sauce to put into jars. The sauce is made via lactic fermentation so, basically I'm going to have a bowl of mashed tomatoes sitting on the counter for a week while they get all bubbly and happy.
I also read up on how to save watermelon seeds.
It's not today but three days ago I finally bought a book on organic solutions for pests and diseases in vegetable gardens.

I finally made the metal tray to go in the bottom of one of the birdcages that I built. Maybe tomorrow I'll tackle the other one! I also moved the stack of blank canvases out of the way so I can finish the easel, at least one side.

onicoe Are you building your own easel? Yep. I wanted a cheap but strong double-sided easel, and I need a new drafting table. I also wanted them to disassemble quickly to stick in the closet when the house is full. So, I got out the graph paper and tried to see how much I could get out of a single sheet of plywood, and I can get both of them out of it. An easel and a drafting table for $20. It's all a game for me. blaugh biggrin

Day's still fresh today, but yesterday I learned you can make this thing called "cold porcelain". It's an alternative to Fimo/Sculpey so I can make lady bug magnets. :3 I'll hopefully post pictures in the crafts subforum this weekend.

I went and got a library card today.
One of the many books I got was Generation T, a book that shows you how to make clothes and such from shirts. I'm hoping to bring life into a couple of old tees. Pity I used most of the best old tees for the t-shirt quilt I never finished, heh.

Miss-Shade, getting a library card is a great idea, make use of thier resouces! It will help. I signed up with 43 Things to list things I want to accomplish. I love writing lists! I love the library. I'll end up checking out at least 5 books, most which are just random. Things I want to know about or learn. I just walk around for a long time, grabbing things that catch my fancy. One time I checked out a book on natural science just cuz I wanted to refresh myself whee

I bought a Peterson's Field Guide to Edible Wild Plants. I figure it might be helpful in the future.
I also bought the book 'Tales of a Shaman's Apprentice: An Ethnobotnists Searches for New Medicines in the Amazon Rainforest'. It looked like an interesting read.

If i had the money to spend on books i definatley would pick one of those up ^^ Do you have plans of visiting the Amazon? If so, through which countries?
