Alright, school play came up and I auditioned of course for I am such a theater freak. I get a call back and I'm so happy. Though you know why I got a call back? Fat chick in the play. The character is know to eat a lot during the play and complain about her weight. Also gets made fun of and stuff. Well, I'm upset/happy.
I'm upset, because you know I don't feel like playing a part, because this is low and not showing my talent at all. Though I'm happy, because no other fat girls auditioned. Skinny sticks did.. Though anyway, I might not even get the character, but still..don't like it.

Anyone ever did a play and was casted for a part because there weight? Do people think of you as being something else because of your weight, but really you are not like that at all?

EDIT
I was in school and the list of the cast was posted. I look to see my name and it's up there. Though I'm not the over weight character it went to a skinny girl who he is going to put in a fat suit. Now..that's a bit odd isn't it? Oh well, got a part. sweatdrop

EDIT AGAIN
Ok the roles are all messed up. I'm really the over weight character, but I'm not fat enough. sweatdrop That made me really laugh. Turns out I have to wear a fat suit..Erm..I'm going to be one hot son of a b***h.

Acting never was my thing, but I can definitely understand your frustration, Shampoo. I usually get "typed" with one look too, I've gotten to the point that it doesn't bother me, I actually enjoy the inital "bubble burst" that happens when people actually start to know me, instead of my appearance.

I'd have to tell the director that if all she's going to do is cast me based on my appearance, and ignore my talent, then I know precisely where she can shove her prejudiced little mind.

Then again, I don't fear confrontation.

I work behind the scenes in our theatre,
I tried out for a play all of once.
I don't have the looks for stage work,
I'm too shy to even bother trying.
I'm great with the tech stuff, though.
Kudos to you for being brave enough to go for it.
It may not seem like much, buy I respect your bravery.

I get typecast all of the damned time because of the same thing. I usually take the part though. I like to take a part that I have a feeling is going to suck a** and make it "my own" so to speak. I tend to offer up suggestions and adlib a few things that make such a part less stereotypical. I mean...if I have to suffer through this crap...might as well show off...just a little. cool

Stereotyping is bad, m'kay?

I dealt with a lot of stereotyping in my day. I was lucky enough, however, to not have it affect anything really important. I'm sorry you had to go through that, darlin'. *gently hugs her*

If you get the part, you should wait until the day before they perform, then quit in protest to their a**-faced stereotype part.

sometimes you gotta take what you can get. but if you really dont like it then dont do it. simple as that.

im not gonna get called back for a part in a play that calls for a "short, asian boy" cause im neither short or asian..

but there was this one tiny movie i did called star wars. it was this worm like creature.....soemthing like Hutt....or whatever his name was....

they have something called "understudies" to prevent that from happening

Well the funny thing is. My part doesn't have a understudy. He believes in me sooo much that if I quit the play he is screwed for he doesn't have a understudy for me. Though I would never quit a show.

stressed I don't understand. He showed me the fat suit I have to wear. I told him I don't want to look really fat, but he says it will be funny. I don't feel it will be funny, just a lot of people laughing at me for I will look sooo fat. How do you feel good about yourself after wearing this thing? xd You should see it my boobs are like down to my stomach. I guess this shows that I'm really not fat in my eyes..but yet I feel worse about myself.

Well, it implies that he doesn't think your fat, and that you're being cast in this role because they needed someone for it rather than because of stereotyping.

I personally think it sounds kind of stupid and slapstick-ish, but maybe that's the kind of play they're doing. =/
