Iran's actual planhonestly being that we are not really all that friendly with Iran right now I think the smartest thing they could do would be to if anything increase production so that negotiations thaw a little bit, but that could just be my pro american bias spilling forth, personally this just makes me hate them more.

They don't owe us their resources. Perhaps the US should work on ending its dependency on the Middle East instead of complaining whenever someone tries to maximize the use of their resources.

I did, and Alaska isn't the only place. Oil execs have even said that.

There's plenty of proven oil resources in the lower 48 in the form of shale. The only reason it hasn't been used yet is because shale is expensive to extract oil from, and the oil companies want to wait until they can make a bigger profit. They'd definitely at least break even at current prices, but they've decided to wait for higher prices. Don't blame the government for holding back the tiny amount in Alaska; blame the oil companies for greed.

I'm aware of that, and I'm honestly not upset at them for doing that. It is greed because, at current oil prices, they would already be turning a profit, they just want a bigger one. But that's just capitalism. Eventually the oil companies will decide that either prices are high enough, and everything will be OK (of course, gas prices will still be outrageously high, but at least it won't be imported). And while I'm not really annoyed by the oil companies' decision, I am annoyed by the claim that the US needs foreign oil because the government won't let them get the tiny amount available in Alaska. I like blaming the government at least as much as the next guy (I am a libertarian), but it really isn't their fault here.

This, in reality is all part of a cycle. Oil is tanking, stop production. Supply and demand, capitalism at its best. And then oil prices will inflate till the point that sale will go down and similar measures will have to be taken. Since Iran's economy is based entirely on oil, good for them; I just wish I could be there when the oil either runs out or grows out of fashion, to see what would happen to the Middle East; proabably riots and general chaos.

that and people starving, which will result in a demand for humanitarian aid, at which point I will support the answer to the call of humanitarian aide but at the same time I will become irritated and begin to think that this is what you get when you center your entire economy on one thing. The city of Detriot is currently seeing what happens when you have one product that you are the king of and focus on nothing else.

One only needs to look at Dubai to see the advantages of diversifying your economy. That place will still be wealthy long after the oil's gone.
