Faline never went looking for trouble, but it often found her just the same. She had learned not to stray to close to either the gates of light and goodness, nor those of darkness and wickedness. Today however she was bored completely and utterly bored, the mist of the oblivion was so thick she couldn't see her own nose. At times she thought she saw a sparkling light ahead only to realize it was her own sapphire blue eyes catching and reflecting against the cool mist.

She decided then that today she would head towards Niflheim, she knew the hounds that guarded the gates would not notice her slipping in on the edges of that strange floating forest. She would slip right into the grand castle and snag herself some delicious morsels right from the golden plates of Hel herself.

Her heart fluttered at the thought of her own daring, but she hesitated for not even a second before she moved into the waters and made her way to the ends of the earth. The swim was long, and her stomach was allowing her mind to go wild with thoughts of what food she would find in the caverns of darkness. She slipped up onto solid ground and looked around the dark forest. Faline crouched lower, after all she stuck out with her creamy fawn colored pelt and bright blue eyes. Slowly she slunk onward through the gnarled forest and avoiding the sounds of howling hounds.

As she came upon the castle she held back before darting within and grinning. She had made it, and now she was off to find the kitchen, where she could reward her own daring with a delicious meal.

Garmr's ears were the best of the small pack of Daemons; perhaps that was why she was titled alpha. Or perhaps it was because she was the best behaved around the Goddess of Darkness, showing Hel complete and utter obedience, even if she didn't feel the serpiente woman deserved it.

The large hound was the size of a Doberman, her muscles thick and showing through a sleek pelt of black and creme. Atop her head were tined antlers, sharpened at the points for better use.

All of the Daemon-dogs of Niflheim had horns. Some were long and sharp, some were thin and dull; some resembled the ram and some resembled the deer, much like her own. The older Daemons' horns were gnarled or snapped off, but they were the hounds who kept Hel company.

The small pack that Garmr led was full of bitches and bucks with strength, pure brilliance and the ability to keep their place through sparring.

She got the message of an intruder by one of her best males; a howl on the wind, crying of a deer-pelted Hellhound. A b***h that carried Garmr's own horns atop her head.

Nevertheless, it would be taken care of as trespassers were one thing Hel refused to take lightly. Garmr picked up six or seven followers with a single bark and together they headed through the shadows to find this female.

With great caution Faline moved through the darkened corridors and into the kitchens licking her lips at the fresh scent of roasting meat. Here was something she could not find in the oblivion, nor would they offer her any at the gates of Asgard. She had come here instead to take what was not freely offered, for she had as much right to it as they though they disagreed.

She snatched a tender leg from the roasting fire and held back a yap of pain as she scalded her tongue. Faline set down the meat between her legs and licked her lips tenderly. She waited a moment before picking the meat back up and starting to slink away, yes she had been bold to come and take, but only a fool would remain in such a place to feast on their stolen meal.

She stopped suddenly as she was slipping away from the castle for a sound that made her tense. Shivers crept slowly up and down her spine and her ears perked and brushed her horns. A howl sounded in the distance, but she knew the distance would close...the hounds were coming.

The smells of a feast filled the great hound's nostrils as she padded into the castle. Hel herself didn't cook but she had serving demons that did.

And Garmr had the bad feeling the delicious scent -- a scent that made the she-hound herself want to wander and snatch a piece of the tasteful meat -- was where the intruder was headed.

Damnit. A growl rippled through the room as she inspected the damage. Oh, Hel wouldn't be pleased about this... No. And one of the hounds would be blamed for it.

She spun, nose to the ground to pick up the scent. A few of her cohorts were staked out outside. Surely the little hellhound wouldn't be slick enough to outwit them.

Garmr's cropped ears flicked forwards at the angered snarl from the outside and within seconds, she was in a full gallop towards the exit, muscles rippling under sleek fur.

She'd get the little hound. She'd catch her. And gut her.

Ha! Those fools were too far behind her to realize now how she had managed to slip away before they had seen her crime. But what crime? Was she too not entitled to eat? Why should she be cast from heaven and hell to wander in endlessness simply because she was born in a time after they had committed their sins.

She ran with all that was in her, slender legs quivering as she forced them to move faster and faster. She could almost sense the intent now, the fury, not just to drive her off, but to end her very life.

Faline quite liked being alive even if it was in that misty place where things often seemed to float between reality and non-existence. She clamped her fangs into her delicious treat and spotted the gates not too far ahead. Yet in that moment she relaxed and slowed her leg gave out on her, she felt the strain and suddenly she tumbled and fell in a daze.

True, the Hellhound was entitled to eat, but not Hel's meals. Garmr snarled inwardly at herself as she ran, flanked by two betas, both of whom looked thoroughly...pissed.

The scent of the delicate little hound had the b***h's mouth watering. She'd savor her blood...a sweet cinnamon dripping down her throat with each lap...

Before her reverie was over, they were upon the fallen doe. Garmr's short cropped ears pricked up as she sniffed the female over, lips rising in a snarl at the piece of moist meat clamped between her jaws.

"Get yourself in a little predicament, princess?" growled the alpha, glaring down at her.

Oh dear, now they were upon her, the hounds of hell themselves. She refused to drop the meat to run instead she struggled to her feet and kept her gaze level with the alpha female. Her blue eyes seemed to freeze like ice as she stood on three legs her right front paw held up delicately.

"Just getting myself something to eat...it's hard in the oblivion..." Her voice was steady despite her fear.

With a twitch of her stubby tail, the two betas froze, realizing their leader wanted to take the prey alone.

Garmr raised her horned head, a demonic glint in her eye. "Do you even know -who- you stole from?" Her voice was edged with ice; like a jagged piece of glass, unemotional. Uncaring.

What did she care that the Hellhounds had to hunt? She served Hel, Goddess of Niflheim! For that, she and her pack were rewarded with food. Maybe this pup should've looked into getting a job.

Thank the gods, or the demons, she didn't care which it was, but something had kept the female talking instead of attacking her right away. Faline now had her second wind. She just had to make it past the gate into the swirling mist of oblivion!

"Yes, and you can let her know I thank her for her hospitality!" She smirked and pivoted with grace leaping into a full run. The meat was sagging in her mouth the taste like victory, but she wasn't gone yet. She could feel a bone deep ache in her paw as she tried to use it, and ran in a half limp.

This speed would have failed her, but she was so close to escape!

Garmr's maw opened to snap back, "Hel isn't hospitable!" and lunge for the throat, as the she-wolf had the nerve to assume a meal was on the house...

If not for the fact that the little b***h had begun to run once again. The betas, still on guard mode, jumped to attention but weren't released.

Garmr leapt into action, instead, thundering after the little whelp. A snarl echoed through the forest as she lunged, teeth aimed for the doe-pelted femme's thigh.

The gates were almost reached... It was now or never.

And she bit down.

Faline cried out as she felt the fangs pierce her fur and flesh, she fell hard now and the meat flopped from her mouth. She growled and twisted to butt Garmr with her horns, she needed only for the female to let go, she was so close.

Faline writhed and tried to get back to her feet, she might stand a chance of escape with only Garmr as a blockade, but if the beta's came she would be doomed.

So close...

The cinnamon tang of blood made Garmr let up to savor it, letting open her jaws enough to let the female pull free.

Antlers interlocked for a moment as the demon-dog roared, fangs bared and hackles raised.

Blood-red eyes fell on the fallen meat and in a twist of a mix of greed and envy, she leapt for the morsel to keep it away from the intruder.

Faline growled for a moment tempted to fight for the meat, but her life was worth more. She twisted and ran wildly with a limp, her back leg and front paw ached. She grinned to herself as she saw the water churning up ahead. Faline stole one glance back and growled.

"I will be back Garmr..." She leapt into the waters leaving a splash of crimson where her blood was carried into the water.

Garmr leapt after her with the grace of a lion, meat still clenched in her jaws as she splashed into her ankles, staring after her.

No.

Glaring after her. Her lips were raised in a quivering growl as she let the b***h get away.

The sweet taste of her blood still lingered, though swept away by the meat.

'I will be waiting, little hound,' she thought as she turned and sulked off, back to her pack.

Her first failure...

Hel wouldn't be pleased...

She paused, glancing over her shoulder to see the doe-colored female passing through the gates, back into the empty oblivion of her home.

Then down her nose at the thick slab of meat in her jaws. She whined.

Hel could be unpleased...

She was feeding herself tonight. And without a second thought, Garmr lay where she paused, tearing off a chunk of meat.
