I can understand that the name of Code Geass comes from Geass being a large factor in the show. I think that the "code" part is from what may be at the end of the series. I think that they will say that the whole thing was a government secret with a codename. Code Geass!
I was thinking about it randomly while thinking about how they named Cloverfield. (ask me if you don't know about that name later...)
if someone knows the real reason i'd like to know!
or just post about how great my theory is...

They have said what 'code' is, though I don't quite understand what it is.
I think it has to do with those who have immortality. They have a 'code'. And they can give this 'code' to others.
I'm sure someone can explain it better than I. ;;;;

I agree with those theories, but one of mine was always that they call it "Code Geass" because Geass is symbolic of a code to affect the human body in different ways depending on the person. When they use their Geass on somebody it puts a code into the victum's body that causes the effects. It's a fairly symbolic title in my opinion

Pretty good theories, but I was under the impression that they called it Code Geass, with "Geass" being a spelling variation of the word "geasa" or "geis", which is an agreement or vow with strict taboos. No clue what the "Code" is for.

Code, as revealed in R2 is [minor spoiler]The red bird shaped symbol on CC's forehead and that was somewhere on VV. It grants those that have it immortality and the ability to grant Geass to mortals. Once a person's Geass has fully evolved, they can receive the Code from the person that gave them Geass. This will cause the Geass user to lose their Geass, but gain immortality and the ability to give it to others. The person who gave up the Code is made mortal and is at last able to die.
That's it, that is what the Code part of the title is.

unsung bard...you're theory has best credence and makes the most sense.....If it was a secret govt. thing, we'd have known it by now...besides.....i doubt Britannia really has been working on that for 700 years(but they need to explain how the 1st came into possession....or was i asleep for that?
