It was just about dawn, and Marut's tail ends were already soaked in dew from the grass, her leg feathers the same way. She loved being out at this time, the sun not being high enough to burn away the morning fog and everything seemed muffled on this early autumn day.
From time to time she saw creatures from a distance; deer mostly, looming out of the pearly mist and then skittering off in surprise when they saw the mare. Eventually she found her way on the top of a medium sized hill, looking down into the valley, and watched the sun climb steadily upwards, the fog slowly turning into bedraggled wisps below her, before dissipating completely.
She let out a sigh, closing her eyes and letting the sunlight warm up her muscles before she went for her usual canter around the Lake and surrounding area. Marut stayed on the hilltop, statue-like for a few minutes, only her ears betraying any sign of movement as she kept listening for the sound of anyone approaching

 Vibrant moved slowly through the valley not once noticing the mare on the hill above him. The dew water on his legs from the dew made the sparkles on his body stick together as they fluttered to the ground, yet the stallion never noticed the fact as he kept walking. His long mane and tail fluttered only slightly with his movements. His eyes glowed bright blood red and cast strange shapes upon his face, yet they seemed distant and far away. Almost like he wasn't seeing the world around him, but was off in his own reality. He stopped and stood there silently head held low to the ground but he wasn't eating. With an almost decisive flick of his tail Vibrant lowered himself down into the grass and rolled onto his side. The chilly grass and dew felt good against his body and for the moment relaxed him into a drowsy half consciousness

Marut had quietly left the hilltop, the morning mist having dispersed enough for her to see most of the valley below. Far off, it still clung to the greater hills, and the mountains, like wool caught in a giant creatures teeth. She chuckled, and swished her dew damp tail to try and dry it. Of course when it did so, it would dry into frizz, but that didn't matter.
Trotting along, she only just managed not to walk straight into the stallion that was lain in the grass. That would teach her not to pay attention to ground level!
'Sorry!' she said, quickly dancing back a few steps. Looking at him properly, she wondered how ever she'd managed to not see him; he had the most striking and vivid colouration against a shimmering black coat.

The voice brought him out of his drowsy state, though he didn't open his eyes at first. When he finally did the glowing orbs cast a red shadow onto his cheek bones noticed a mare there. She seemed flustered, and he realized that he'd come close to being run over it seemed.
He laughed softly as he rolled up into a 'sitting' position, though the laugh was nothing more than a reflex to the situation, then slowly climbed back to his feet.
"It's alright, I probably shouldn't have lied down in the open like that."
He gave her a hallow smile, that really was nothing more than him forcing himself to make the motions. He seemed a shell of a Soquili void of emotions by what the gods only knew.

Marut relied alot on her instincts, and she wondered briefly what exactly she'd blundered into. It wasn't as though he came off as particularly frightening, or vicious..there was just something about him that alerted her senses.
'Well, maybe not, but I don't think I was looking where I was going too well.' she said, keeping an apologetic note in her voice.
'If you'd like me to leave you alone, I'll just move on again?' she asked. It wasn't as though he'd said hello really, just moved to look at her.

He smiled again, the same forced smile that seemed to hold no true emotion behind it.
"Well maybe so, but you saw me before you stepped on me so I can't say I'm angry about not paying attention. Besides, we all do that every so often" his shoulder rose up for a moment before slumping back down in a slight horse shrug.
His long tail drug through the grass as he flicked it behind him.
"You don't have to leave if you don't wish too, it's been some time since I was able to associate with another soquili in a long time."
He wasn't too sorry for that, but since she was here he didn't want to be rude and send her packing.

Marut found it hard to be bright in the face of such evident - apathy? Sadness? She couldn't tell what was up with the stallion, just that there was something wrong with him.
'I guess we do,' she replied, noticing that he'd yet to get off the ground still. She wasn't bothered about manners, but she did think that it would be hard to get on with this male, especially as she was all active, and standing seemed hard for him.
'I was just passing through, so no worries if you do want me to carry on. What's your name at any rate? I'm Marut.'

Deciding it was inappropriate to stay on the ground at this point Vibrant tossed his head up and with a flick of his tail rose easily to his hooves loose sparkles seeming to come off his body in a shower or color.
"I'm Vibrant Shades of Death, it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance Madam Marut."
He stood quietly for a moment then cocked his head to the side "do you like to travel M'dear? I personally rarely stay in one place for any length if I have the option to move on." He only shrugged again this time actually letting out a soft laugh at himself.

Marut laughed properly than, and replied to his address;
'Please, just Marut. I'm not ladylike enough for 'Madam'.' she winked, her messy fringe falling into her face.
'Wow, that's your name? That's a mouthful to be sure. Do you have a nickname, or can I call Vibrant for short?' she asked. Maybe he liked being called his full name, so she felt she better ask.
'I travel yes, but short treks lately really. I wander and then go home to my family for a while. You have family in these parts?'

He smiled slightly "you look plenty lady enough to me Marut, but if you wish I'll just stick to your name." His long tail flicked back and forth behind him as he stood there facing her.
"You can call me whatever you'd like Marut; Vibrant, VSoD Vib, whatever you would like to call me is fine with me." He flicked an ear almost lazily and his hind right foot rolled over as he relaxed.
He flinched at the word 'family' "I have two daughters, though I rarely see either of them. One is anti-social, the other was taught to hate me by her mother and my ex-mate." He gave a horsey shrug trying to brush it off as best he could manage.

Marut chuckled;
'If you say so.' she wasn't about to pick an argument with this strange stallion, but she also wasn't going to acknowledge it as true when she knew it wasn't.
'Vibrant then..' she nodded, she supposed that when you had a name as long as your tail, it paid to be flexible on nicknames.
'Oh, I am sorry.' Marut felt that she'd made a bit of an oops by mentioning family, but what could she do? She wasn't psychic, and it was a fairly common line of conversation when you were getting to know someone. Asking whether another liked the weather or not was just dull.
'If it helps, mine isn't exactly a perfect family either.'
