Cherise was near the village running amongst the huts. She could not find her adopted daughter, but she knew she was safe. Cherise sighed and went into the forest hiding from all the hustling people and balams and whatever else. She started to walk deeper into the balam jungle deep among the undergrowth.

Silence. Stealth. Patience.

Words in which Altair came to live by. The sleek yet muscular creature made sure his lifestyle honed up to such powerful diction. His robes allowed him to move freely and yet helped conceal him among the humans. He was a quick and agile male, quick to alude living beings and yet agile enough to run if spotted and not be caught. Those words were priceless and Altair made sure not to tarnish them.

The giant cat treaded carefully among the undergrowth of the B'alam jungle. He kept a weary eye out for any type of debree that might give away his position. His bright orbs fixated on any of the trees and their bases, waiting for any movement that might catch his eyes. Then it happened.

A large hare moved into sight.

The male stopped where he was and instantly brought his whole body closer to the ground, making his body dissapear slightly within the underbrush. Only his tail shifted, moving left and right at odd times. A tension built up within the stealthy creature's muscles, soon to be released once the prey detected him. Though they rarely did.

One paw at a time. Altair transfered his right front paw to a new location a couple inches ahead of where it had been. No noise emitted from the movement since he was slow and cautious. His experience showed in the way he moved. Altair then allowed his plated arm to move forward next, but before he could place the paw on the ground, a noise came forth. The would-be victim raised its ears and dashed off. Altair flattened his ears as he grew slightly irritated. He made a noise.

Then it came again.

The male stood up straight and turned his cloaked head in the direction of the noise. It was not him then. The noise came from a different source. A small grin formed on his maw as he evaluated what type of creature could be making the new noise. Perhaps an okapi. He quickly looked to the nearest tree and faced it fully. The tension that was previously in his muscles now returned but now he released it. His four paws hit the ground quickly but made barely any clamorous noises at all. Then his claws met the rough bark. Altair skillfully scaled the tree and placed himself on a lower branch. He inched out upon it and let his body lay flat upon the thin branch, waiting for his new prey to present itself.

"Let's see what you are," he murmured to himself, his arabian accent thick in his voice.

"Oh je suis pourquoi toujours seul dans ce monde occupé occupé ? oh mon oh mon" Cherise said fluently speaking french. She moved grazingly along the forest floor, her paws gliding over the ground. Her Cherry on her head stuck tight and her cherry stem bracelet moved up and down as she broke into a run, she soon stopped. She had no clue what had made her run but she felt as though she needed to move up a bit. Only if Asheni had not left her lonely, but she knew her daughter would turn up sometime. Till then Cherise was all so lonely. Her red coat was vibrant and very noticeable in the jungle grounds. It did not affect her hunting cause she ate fruits and vegetables anyways, and those were slow runners.

Altair waited and was soon rewarded with another sound from the oncoming creature. Though this sound was unlike any he had ever heard of. A look of puzzlement soon presented itself upon his facial expression though none could witness it. What was that noise, it seemed beautiful and yet nasally. Almost like a voice. The male perked an ear up to see if the voice might come again but it never did. Instead, a quick rush of paw falls could be heard loud and clear over the silent earth. Twigs and leaves crunched underneath the weight of the approaching creature.

The jaguar grew comfortable to his spot as the feeling of the wooden branch below him began to dissapear. This was a sign that he was perfectly still. Not a movement stirred his body. He peered below him until the prey became noticeable. It was moving, and quite fast as well. Then a red blur graced his vision.

Is that a running cherry?! Since when did fruit grow legs and run that fast?!

His previous look of puzzlement became an understatement when compared to his new expression. He did not know what to make of this new scene and his mind was racing. This was surreal and probably a figment of his imagination. Or was it? Altair squinted his eyes and critically examined the 'fruit'.

This fruit seemed to be perched on top of a creature that looked almost like him except with out the pieces of fabric and the different pelt. The jaguar deemed this creature to be another one of his kind and not prey. He lifted his athletic body from his current position and leaped down with grace, making a slight stir in the previous silence but not a loud sound.

"You're an odd one," spoke the male as he made himself known.

"What is so odd about me that does not make yourself odd?" she said looking at a balam she never has seen before. He had two legger clothes and armor, but under it all Cherise could tell he was athletic. She too was well fit on a fruit and veggie diet. Her body slim and tall, and her coat pretty.

She looked him up and down hoping he was not another rude balam to make fun of her. "What is your name" she asked her accent heavy with french, she knew he had an accent but none she had heard before.

Altair was slightly taken aback by the remark and stopped his pace. He took a bit of time to understand the meaning of her words and finally understood. It was odd for a jaguar to be clothed, probably even weird but it worked out just fine for himself. The humans left him alone that is and vice versa.

"Everything is odd to some extent but I have never seen something so," the male paused for better choice of a word. "Exquisite. I thought you were a fruit at first but obviously I am wrong."

He noticed the female was looking at him and grew quiet. His face now expressionless though the darker pelted jaguar could only see his maw due to the cloak. Then his ears swiveled slightly back to the female as she asked him for his name. The male took another slight pause before answering, making sure that she was agreeable to talk to. Her body language gave no sign of hostility and so Altair relaxed.

"Altair. That is the name that was given to me at birth. And yours?" replied the male, his accent still present in his voice.

"I suppose so...but i am as exquisite as your clothing sir Altair" she said as she had liked his words he had used to not offend her. She took another breath before answering him "Bonjour Altair, I am madam Cherise" she said bowing politely and lady like. "What accent is yours coming from?" she said illiteracy as she was used to speaking fluent French.

She noted all his slothing and armory, and all of it's colors. He must know by know she was studying him so she politely looked up to not be rude from staring. She looked at his face and half was hidden under that cloaked hood of his. But his pelt was showing a bit to reveal a tan body that drkens in certain areas.

Altair gave himself a mental praise as he had not insulted the female with his choice of words. He waited patiently for her to take a breath so that she could answer his last question. Once more she started with an odd word that sounded like the voice he heard when he was crouching on the branch. He let the word play on his tongue slightly while the other jaguar gave a bow in what would seem a polite manner. His attention slipped slightly when she asked him another question, this time about his accent. The clothed male gave a confused look that the other would surely not have known, due to his face being half hidden.

"Accent? I have always spoken this way, it was never referred to as an accent before though. Hmm, well I can start with the basics I suppose since it might answer your question." Altair began and then paused to think of better words to say, "I am of Arab descent and so therefore my ancestors spoke the language known as Arabic. Due to the lack of this language around these parts, I speak the local language of this forest and its inhabitants. You on the other hand do not seem to be around this place. Your accent, if that is what it is called, seems nasally and yet beautiful. There are no cacophonous sounds in that language. What is it?"

Altair grew comfortable with his surroundings and the newcomer and allowed himself to sit upon the leveled piece of ground he had once stood upon. Though his senses were always alert, he did not sense any danger and so therefore allowed himself this simple pleasure, though only for a short time.

Cherise smiled "Arabic you say? very interesting indeed my good sir" she said as she too felt comfortable with her surroundings and knew he was hostile.

"My accent is French as is where I had came from merci, My name Cherise is French for Cherry, you see?" she said as she looked at him, she felt puzzled as he almost sounded confused by the word accent. And why did he dress the way she did, but she did not want to speak about his appearance for she too was different.

The two-shaded tail twitched every couple of minutes or so, showing that the male was relaxed enough to enjoy the other's company. He listened with intent ears as she spoke to him. It gave his ego a boost to know that the one in front of him thought his 'accent' to be interesting. Altair gave his own smile, albeit small. His hidden orbs noticed the change in the atmosphere around Cherise as her muscles seemed to visibly relax and her posture changed ever so slightly. Usually changes of this type went unnoticed by most but the clothed male was trained in the sense of spotting tiny details such as this.

"French," Altair mused as he allowed the word to roll out of his maw. His strong Arabic accent giving it a funny sound but then he tried to pronounce it the way Cherise said the word but failed miserably.

His focus came back from his thoughts as he noticed the puzzled look the red jaguar was giving him. This in turn was enough to bring Altair back up to all four of his paws. He did not like being looked at with such an expression even though it was harmless and no hostility was meant by it.

"What is it that puzzles you?"

Cherise flinched as she felt his eyes study her, noticing every moment of hers. She smiled at him he was so kind and polite..it's been a while since she met a male that was like him. Perhaps they would become more acquainted.

Cherise's mouth fell open and she laughed with humor at his attempt to say French like her.

Cherise became more serious as she looked at him, his sudden change scared her a bit but she understood what she had done wrong "You, just the way you dress, and look, and speak I have never seen someone so different like me before...it's nice" she said speaking truthfully.

Altair listened with content as the answer he received was enough to quench his curiosity and calm him. Different. It was one of a few words that he would allow to describe himself. He noticed the comparison the other made and wondered if she too might have been questioned about her appearance. Though she must have received far more positive comments from the mere fact that her pelt had a healthy sheen to it. Plus, she had that beautiful voice, or 'accent.' He became lost in thought to notice that their had been some slight tension between the two. Only when he was about to reply did he notice the difference in the air. It was his goal to mend it.

"It is a pleasure to be in your company. Though, honestly, I can't say I've been around many of my kind. Then again, I don't search for my kind either," replied Altair, his own tone emitting a sense of sincerity.

He glances away for a minute to think about what he had just said. It was his own lifestyle that kept him from meeting others like him. He stuck to the shadows and relied on stealth to stay hidden from others. It was who he was and what he did. The three tenets that he lived by characterized who he was. They were his identity. They were his very being. But that didn't mean that they didn't come with a consequence. His social life wasn't exceptionally great and most of the time he chose not to speak to others due to lack of anything good to say.

However when he did, he always appeared cocky and arrogant. There was no one to set him straight on his ways. Being alone taught him to pride himself in what he did as an efficient hunter. He honed his skills with gratification and only perfected them in hopes of improving his worth for this life.

All prior hostility of any sort drained from his very being as he looked back to the female in front of him. She was an odd exception. He was having one of his best social conversations right here with her and he wanted it to continue for a while before he went back to his life of solitude.

His memory recalled the laughter she emitted after he tried pronouncing the word French. The male wanted to hear it once more before they departed their separate ways. A mental note was made not to raise any more tension between the two.

Cherise smiled so kindly, never has she met a balam that has drawn so much attention from her that was not a cub. Cherise loved cubs and had many "adopted" by her and her motherly attitude. She never had time really to socialize with others of her own age, and she must admit it was nice.

"A pleasure it is indeed to talk to you, I must say I do not usually talk to balams my own age...ugh...you see I am the type of person that loves children and sees myself as a mère" she said pausing "Or as you would call a mother" with that she looked down and laughed a bit at how sad that sounded.

She spends so much time with children that she never has time to find the perfect balam for her...a father for her future family. Cherise looked up and watched as the male's attitude seemed to have softened and his body and expression showed it. She noticed the change in his tone, and soon found herself worrying over how she appeared.

There was a reason she was always with kids, cause she felt kids did not care why she looked the way she did. She looked at Altair and realized to him she must seem quite silly or foolish. Her red fur turned redder in the face and she quickly looked down.

Altair tilted his head slightly when she exclaimed her own stand in society. How could she not hang out with other B'alam her age? It baffled him slightly but he said nothing and instead listened to the rest of her statement with interest. He repeated 'mère' within his head to see if it sounded the same way she said it but in his head. The only reproduction he made was her voice when he thought of the word. His attention turned back to Cherise as she spoke of the adjective that could be used to describe her.

Altair found the laughter that she emitted sounded different than the earlier one. Bashful perhaps? His mind soon registered the context with which she spoke and allowed a silence to settle between the two as he rolled it over within his mind. 'Loves children.' 'Call a mother.' Did she have cubs to take care of? He most certainly didn't know how to respond to that. If she had cubs then she must be with some other B'alam... Then why would she want to talk to him?

Analyze the words, do not automatically make assumptions. She sounded hopeful... wishful when speaking of children.

The male looked back at Cherise to see that she was looking down at something. Curious, he takes a preliminary step towards the female, the armor on his paws giving a light 'clinking' noise at the small movement. He stands close to her left side before looking down at the ground as well... only to see dirt and patches of grass. Confused, he only sits down onto his haunches before going back to their previous topic.

"I don't see why not. You're an easy one to talk to. I don't have an impulse to challenge you to some type of event," mused Altair before he broached the topic of children. "So... why children? Do you have some of your own or something?"

The last question was unconsciously said but Altair realized what he had done. He hoped the other didn't take it the wrong way but he was curious. She called herself a mother of sorts so perhaps she might have had some firsthand experience?

Cherise's words faltered a bit as she saw him approach her and she heard the sounds that came from his armor. He was like a knight, loyal and valiant but yet hidden by the metal and so mysterious. It thrilled her to see such a unique balam.

"I-I suppose I just never thought myself worthy to talk to those of my kind...it's hard for me when I look and represent a cherry and chocolate" she said trying to let out a fake laughter. "I suppose it is good you find myself worth to talk to and not challenge me" she said with a dark humor.

"Well with children you see i feel like I belong like I am meant to help and raise them in life, there the only ones that can take me rather serious and not judge my appearance" she said as she frowned a bit as he asked if she had some. She always wanted kids, but it was hard finding a mate for her. "I do not have any of my own children, I have always adopted orphans, but they all go as soon as they come" she said sighing "It's like once I did what I could there off starting there own life" her eyes glanced at him, his hood covering half his face. What was he like under all the clothe and armor? what type of balam was he? She found his accompany so filling inside, like he had just completed her life. She wished that feeling would never leave.
