They did fight (IT WAS CANON!!) and Palppy (Palpatine) did fight and Palpatine wooped Maul's butt. He had the chance to kill Maul at the end of the fight, but he obiously didn't. It was some sort of test.

Darth Maul wasn't that great, the only way he could best a Jedi Master was when they're in a confined space. The Emperor killed three of the greatest Jedi Masters and held his own aganist the greatest duelist in the Jedi at the time.
In other words: This is a bull s**t question, the Emperor would kill Maul in a few seconds.

Honestly? I'll have to go with ominous here. Palpatine had the power and the training to take out maul within the first few seconds of their fight. If nothing else, his force powers were strong enough that he could probably have reaches out and hurled maul against a wall then just crushed him into a long red smear. I mean, maybe if maul teamed up with vader, qui gon, and mace windu. They could probably take him out. But to be honest: the ONLY reason maul won the fight against qui gon is becase qui gon's fighting style was not for use in confined spaces, and qui gon was probably worrying about obi wan more than his own life.

You're right..he made the Queen of Naboo go for a vote of no confidence which in turn made him Supreme Chancellor, and caused a series of events that led to the eventual deaths of most of the Jedi allowing Palpatine to royally burn the Republic and, out of the ashes, raise an Empire to control the whole universe.

Dark Lord Grievous Wasn't Maul Palpatines apprentice? Yes. And I have to go with Palpatine crushing maul in a couple seconds. Maul is too agressive, and probably couldn't block force lightening, and, even if he could, Palpatine is still a better swordsman.

Palpatine.. He trained the guy! And even though I love darth maul palpatine is stronger.. The only way he could win as I see it was to assassinate him.. But I believe that Maul was loyal.

Palpatine beat Yoda. Yeah, it was an unfair battlefield, but still. Beating darth maul would be taking candy from a fairly ugly baby.
