Time had gone by. She was no longer the cute little filly, nor the naive young mare that she used to be. (Well, she might've still been naive, but she didn't accept it, therefore it mustn't exist, right?)
At least that's how it was for Amerlei, anyway.
She'd wandered away from her homelands as a yearling. She'd wandered far enough away that her parents didn't come after her. Perhaps they had their hands full with her sister, Seresai.
Either way, she'd been a stupid mare.
Ciardha wasn't "The One" for her. Sure, he was sweet and he was there. But that was the point; he was there. She loved him, or at least fancied him, because he'd shown interest in her. Interest that was probably still fairly strong, as they'd had a trio of baskets together.
Ame. Ame took after her, but she refused to see the naivety in herself. So she considered him -- the only Wind of the small family -- to be the black sheep.
Cianneach was Ciardha's son, and not just by his Irish name. Cain was the gentle one.
And Anansi... Oh, Anansi...
A spitfire on the ground, Amerlei was just glad the filly didn't have wings. She, afterall, still couldn't fly.
Maybe that was why she was running back home now, after such a long time. Maybe.
The yearling trotted lazily behind her mother, not nearly as impressed with the sight as her father would've been.
In all honesty, Anansi didn't know -where- they were going. Mom had just said "Where we belong," if that made any sense. It didn't.
Wasn't where you belonged your home? And wasn't your home with family? In that case, why weren't they back with Dad and her brothers? And why was Mom looking so darn frazzled.
No, not frazzled. Frazzled was the squirrel that Anansi pinned in the forest.
Lost. That was the look in her dam's aqua green eyes. Just lost.
"Come if you want," Merlei had said. "You'll like it."
Anansi had tilted her head to one side, curious to where she was going. As the white mare took off into a lope, her daughter was torn, gazing back and forth between her slowly splitting family.
How was she supposed to choose? But she couldn't leave her mom to wander the forests alone, so she'd followed with a saddened glance to the all-male side of her family.
So...perhaps she was just as lost. If not more.

(( Time skip, this'll be set before Rine and Crous's new baskets arrive ))
Amarinne was worried.
Three times now she had tried to conceive, prayer fervently for the son she knew her mate wanted.
Three times now, she had failed, and as was her way, she kept it to herself, showing only the usual and socially appropriate smile to the world. Crousader might know, after all she had learned long ago that there were few things she could keep from him, but as was his way, he said nothing of it.
Idly she swished her long shinning tail and pondered the ways of the world as framed in the depths of a pond. Reality seemed such an easy thing to grasp when one was watching the fish swim lazily around. Life was simple for them.. eat... mingle.... procreate.... eat....
Procreate...
Sighing heavily, she turned her thoughts to other, more pleasant, avenues. Like her daughters.... her beautiful and oftentimes illusive daughters.
Seresai could be a trial, that was for certain, but after Toujours had had the teaching of her, and she had befriended the precocious Wildfire... Amarinne found the young white and gold wind mare's behavior to be less of an enigma, and more that of an aristocrat of the air. Though to be honest, 'Rine found Seres to be a bit intimidating at times, now that she had finally come into her own as an adult, and had had several adventures of her own outside of her dam's sight. Seresai was very much alive with the unchecked power of youth, yet it had been honed and tempered into a deadly blade, only to be later shrouded in a soft velvet of femininity and grace.
Really, she wondered why she wasn't more proud of her daughter... only then did she realize that it wasn't pride she felt in Seresai. It was just plain unconditional love, stemming from her intuition that said Seres was not as settled in herself as she might appear to be. Alas, she would try and speak with her later...
Then there was Amerlei.
That was a heartache in itself, as she had only had one beautiful year with her lovely white daughter with the golden dusted wings. In Amerlei, Amarinne saw much of herself, and it had pained her when Merl had wandered off never to be seen again.
Though to be frank, what hurt even more was her mate's decision not to follow the youngster. Crousader had always maintained a strict doctrine when it came to parenting. After his children had passed though his training regiment and were at least yearlings... they could do as they pleased.
A point of contention, that was for sure, as Amarinne was not only opposed too such strict training procedures.. but for the lack of custodial interference in other matters.
Well, a mother could only hope that wandering hooves would someday lead a wondering soul back home again.

((Okay ^___^ Congrats on your boy, btw!))
The mares strode upon familiar land at dawn, the light flickering through the trees, dappled shadows falling over their dew-covered pelts.
At the border, Amerlei halted. A rush of memories floated over the white mare. Her wings fluttered outwards, then stretched in and she noticed the quick glance of her daughter's pale eyes on her.
Envious that she didn't have the wings to grace the sky, perhaps? Or perhaps she was just tired of travel.
"We're here..." said Merl, uncertainty in her voice.
This was definitely the Islagatt herd's territory. It just brought back that dawn. The dawn that she proved herself to Blais, the herd's protector, and to her father. Crousader.
What would he think of her now? What would his judgement be? Merlei wasn't a warrior... She never would be. She was a dreamer, always the wanderer.
"Anansi?"
But the filly had taken off, taking her mother's announcement of 'This is home' to heart.
This was it? The lands that Mom had fervently worried about the entire journey? What was so great about here?
As soon as she got the word, Anansi took off into a gallop, cares thrown to the wind, to the wings that she never got.
Not that she wanted them. But being able to fly would be a huge advantage.
Anansi? She wanted to find her 'people'. People who understood her. People who were willing to put up with her somewhat combative nature. And like it.
A grin rose on her lips at the sight of a pretty cream mare with a golden mane and a spiraling horn. She slowed to a trot, then halted several feet from her, taking in the sight. One of mother's friends, perhaps?
"Hello there," she chirped, not shy in the least. She tossed her white and golden mane from her eyes and shifted her weight to peer at the the older mare. "I'm Anansi."

Drawn out of her revelry by the unfamiliar voice, Amarinne looked up and, after a brief moment of confusion... released a soft snort of surprise.
A stranger? Here?
Such a thing was unheard of, as Blais kept the patrols of wildlife and sentry soquili rotated and refreshed. She herself had stood sentry duty and knew how the system worked...
So how?
Regardless, the young black mare did not appear threatening, and she had a hint of familiarity about her the said Amarinne should know her. Puzzled, the ivory unicorn pulled herself to her feet, and was struck with how similar this filly, Anansi, was to her lost daughter Amerlei.... with the curve of the chin and the shape of her eyes...
"Greetings Anansi, I am Amarinne... are you lost dearling?" She asked, willing to accept such a mistake... but still puzzled at the lack of warning from the wildlife.

Anansi scuffed a hoof against the dirt absentmindedly as the unicorn rose to full stature. Silver eyes blinked, taking in the sweep of her golden mane and the unique curve to the horn atop her forehead.
Such a horn could do damage, if the mare was a fighter...
Amarinne...
The name was familiar, tugging at the depths of her memory. She was positive she'd never met the mare before...so through her mother. They had to know each other.
"Well I don't know where I am, exactly. I followed my mother here. She seems to know where she's at."
Oh that filly... Amerlei began the long, memory-filled walk through her old home looking for her ashen-pelted daughter. Why did she insist on wandering off now of all times?
"Anansi?" Her voice trailed over the brush as she caught the young mare's voice, chattering animatedly to an unknown someone.
It ruffled Amerlei's nerves and she held her breath, praying it was someone she knew. The last thing they needed was for the indignant little trickster of hers to get them kicked out of Islagiatt territory.
But when the mare rounded the corner, coming face to face with her beautiful mother, she stopped dead in her tracks, feeling a pang hit her heart hard and fast.
Merl averted her gaze to Anansi. "Erm... Sorry...if she caused any trouble." Which earned her a flattened-ear glare from her daughter.
She couldn't think of anything else to say. 'I'm sorry I ran away all those years ago' was too raw.

A lightning bolt could have done less damage to the older mare's heart then her long lost daughter's sudden reappearance.. with a granddaughter nonetheless.
At first she had begun to reply to the younger mare, inquiring perhaps about how the lovely young lady's mother could possibly be familiar with this region when Amarinne knew no one who had recently had offspring.
But then...
Well really there was only one thing she could do, and for this Amarinne would forever thank her instincts.
She had simply stepped forward, closer to her lovely white daughter, and reached out, letting her know through her eyes and her posture that EVERYTHING was alright, that her mother, at least, would always welcome a lostling home.. that hugs and a warm shoulder would forever greet her.
"She hasn't, so come here Amerlei, I have missed you so..."

Amerlei wanted to stumble back, to not accept the warmth her mother was offering. She didn't deserve it the way Amarinne gave it!
But she couldn't resist. Just as she hoped if anything happened between Anansi and herself, Anansi wouldn't resist. Amerlei was her mother...and Amarinne was hers.
Slowly her ears flicked back as she stepped up, resting her muzzle against her mother's shoulder and breathing in, her knees shaking. "Sorry, Mum... I...want to stay a little while... Is that okay? I mean, I can't be here forever, but..." Her green eyes flicked back to Anansi before she stepped back and nosed her yearling daughter. Clearing her throat, she smiled.
"Mum, this is Anansi. She came here with me. Maybe somedayI can introduce you to her brothers, Cainneach and Ame, and their father?"
She blinked, watching her mother and the strange mare talk. Amarinne was...her grandmother? But she didn't look old enough!
And if this was true, where was her granddad? Did she have any secret cousins or uncles?
Either way, she kept her mouth shut. Things would unfurl soon enough.
