I've been working with alot of local politics lately... And the other day I was sitting in on a speaker running for a state position. One of the hotest arguments was him being pro-ID.

For you who may be giving me blank stares right now. Some officals have wanted to impliment national ID's. Not state, not social security #'s, not even state ID, but national. He argued "If your not doing anything wrong, why should you be afraid of the government?" Lol.. Me, honestly.. Even if im not doing anything wrong, I rather not give up my rights just so the government can make me a number and keep track of me. If I wanted to be tracked, ill let you know. razz

How do you feel?

The line about "If your not doing anything wrong, why should you be afraid of the government?" makes me laugh an embittered little laugh.
Afraid may not be the best word.. am I distrustful of the government? Better believe it. Why would they WANT to do this unless they intend to change the rules a bit and suddenly people who are not doing anything wrong - are terrorists. Laughing? Stop.
It's already happening.

I'm not going to get way off topic with this but consider the concept of Hate Speech. What was once considering disagreeing with someone is now a crutch for censorship. People have been arrested for so-called Hate Speech. Seems that these days the concept of "what is popular is not always right" has been disposed of and replaced with "agree with us or be punished"

Back to this ID nonsense.. ever since the events of 9-11 we have been trading freedoms for security.

Despite the fact that there have been no attacks since, the terror-level continues to be elevated. They have established what is laughingly referred to as "the Patriot Act" it is called this because "raping Americans of the right to privacy" just doesn't have a very nice ring to it.

I am very happy to hear the populace is not embracing the idea. That something deep inside screams out to them that we are headed into dangerous territory. I am not a religious person but I have found this metaphor speaks to many.. the mark of the beast will not be so obvious as a tattoo or branding on a follower's flesh. It will be a barcode we carry in our pockets or a chip embedded in our skin.

As another poster conveyed, I do not like this phrase at all. No, I am not doing anything wrong. But is one first step that is likely to send us into many more steps that will take away our freedom. Soon enough we'll be living out 1984, being watched by the government when in our own homes, being tortured or killed for thinking the wrong way. All for the "good" of the collective.

The chip has been made and is being implemented. In 2005 I believe there was a school in oregon? that had a huge battle raging. The fight was over the schoolboard insisting the children get microchips planted in their hands as a school ID. Wether this chip or one like it is the mark of the beast I can't say. What I will say is that no matter if its a chip, tattoo, or whatever, I will not take it. PERIOD. Our freedoms are being trampled. The Constitution is being used as toilet paper. The AMerican people are just brooding for a revoltuion. if our founding father's saw how our country is now they would vomit.

The goverment doesn't have the right to do that we are protected against that by the constition and if they do then we need to oust the people in power
