Ryan wasn't really expecting an office that wasn't dusty. Tidy, yes, but since the squad had been without a captain for almost twenty days, the dust had accumulated. The office itself wasn't also really what Ryan liked that much, so he had decided to take some time while he had it and renovate.
Well, the dust took the longest... It had taken a good five hours, but the renovating was at least complete. The office was no longer dusty, though, some of the items in it did still have a dusty smell to them, and some also had the faint odor of mothballs, since Ryan had made more than a few trips to the general storage areas of more than a few squads, poking around all the things people had put there and forgotten about and trying to find things he liked.
His desk was at the back of the room, with the chair behind it, facing the door and with the back to the window. He'd made sure to stack any overdue paperwork neatly on one side, and had placed a few other items on his desk - a small mug holding a few pens sat right at his left hand when he sat in the chair, for example. The desk also had a black plastic cover where he could set his papers and write without scratching the surface. A small lamp also sat just off the top-left corner of the plastic cover, to be used for nighttime or to change the angle of the light if the sun didn't favor him.
Opposite the lamp sat a small desktop radio. It was quite, well, what others would call "old-fashioned" (Ryan himself had seen similar models, but this model was dated 1955, much newer than Ryan's old radio back home had been). He didn't know who had brought a radio, but he knew why it had been sitting in storage - try as he might for an hour, Ryan had not been able to find a single radio station. He had found an old antenna as well, but he theorized he'd need to run cable all the way over to 12th Squad and through the Gate to Earth - if that was possible - if he wanted radio. The radio being there made him comfortable, though, and it might be nice sometimes to just twirl the dial even if all he would get was static.
In one corner sat a stereo on top of a cabinet with built-in speakers. It was really a luxurious model, one from the mid-150s or early 1960s, and the cabinet itself was racked to hold long-playing records in the large cupboards, with the top drawers being racked to hold 45- and 78-rpm singles. He'd found some records he'd recognized in the cupboard, too - Neil Young, Led Zeppelin (he knew how to spell it now, at least), Pink Floyd, and Bob Dylan, to name a few. He'd also rigged up a small contraption that said it played something called a "CD" - which were small discs, smaller than even 7-inch singles, with the label on the front and a silver-ish backing. He'd taken a few of these out of interest - one that was titled "Superunknown" by a band called Soundgarden, and another that was simply titled "Rage Against the Machine", among a few others. These had probably been recent, since he'd found the copyright dates to be in the 1990s, well after the radio he'd been listening to during his so-called "time in exile" had fallen into static because the station had moved to FM.
But, enough. There were two more chairs facing the desk, and behind those, a large rug in the center of the room. Two nice couches (one that had a back that reclined and a footrest that raised at the pull of a lever on the appropriate side) sat on the left and the right of this rug, with an overstuffed armchair and a comfortable rocking chair having their backs to the door, while two comfortable-looking, reasonable armchairs had their backs to Ryan's desk. A rack of coasters was set next to a wooden plate at the center of the table, which had a glass top. The center plate was, obviously, for setting down a kettle.
Of course, this room wasn't complete without the ultimate tactical game. On a small granite table on the left side of Ryan's desk sat an ornate chess set. The board was also granite, but the set was glass, made in shapes to represent Greco-Roman figures. Small faces were detailed on the glass, even. The pawns carried long spears and square shields, the rooks were tall towers with many balconies. The knights were Legionnaires, mounted on rearing horses, while the bishops were bald scholars. The queen and king wore flowing robes, with the king slightly taller and wearing a laurel crown. It was really a sight to behold, and Ryan had wondered why such a treasure had lain in a box - albeit, a well-protected box, made of cedar and lined with velvet - in storage. Either way, the chess set was set up for a game, and anyone who wished to play could play. There was also a pad of paper on Ryan's desk, divided into two sides, and each of those sides divided into two more, with the lines numbered - the left half numbered 1-35, the right half numbered 36-70. It was, obviously, meant for noting chess moves, as "White" and "Black" were atop each respective quarter, White on the left, Black on the right.
There was a stove in the corner directly opposite the stereo, an old, wood-fired stove, with a chimney extending up and out the roof. There was some wood stacked next to the stove, and Ryan had also made sure to designate a closet just down the hall as for firewood. There was space on the stove, obviously, for a kettle, which sat atop the stove.
"It still needs some work, but it's good for now, at least," Ryan said to himself, sitting in his chair. Sighing, he picked up a pen and started to work on that stack of overdue paperwork, hoping to get ahead of it in a reasonable amount of time.

Ryan had plowed through the paperwork pretty quickly, by his standards at least. It was the last piece, though, that made his heart sink. It sunk a lot.
It was a note from Ogato. His vice-captain, Or rather, as of this note, ex-vice-captain.
"God damn. God damn, god damn, god damn." He paced the room for what seemed like an hour, circling his desk, walking to the door, back to his desk, back to the door, around the desk again. He couldn't believe this - he becomes a captain, he doesn't even have his bankai yet (thus giving him a noticeable disadvantage in comparison to other captains) and now this. "The hell am I supposed to do now...I know barely anyone. Hirimi has yet to undergo shikai training. Nagi and Tansen are captains. Envy is a vice-captain already, and better suited to fourth squad as things are. Who else could I get...who else could I trust. Trust with me is not the same as with others, but I cannot make someone I barely know my lieutenant. It's..."
Ryan walked to the room's closet and donned his captain's haori. He didn't tend to wear it when alone in his office - what was the point? This was, actually, the first time he'd worn it, because he'd kept his office locked in order to be able to sift through the paperwork he'd had. He then left the office and locked the door behind him, going out. He needed a walk - a good, long one. The longer...the better.

Ogato walked towards Ryan's office thinking through what he will say. As he approached the door he paused for a moment. He knocked twice then waited for a minute, he assumed no one was around so he pulled out a piece of paper and jotted down something then stuck it on the door. He then walked away. The note said:
Captain Ryan I'm sure you and I need to talk I assume your not here so I guess I'll have to come back later. Once you get this message let me know how ever you can.

On his return, Ryan saw the note - again from Ogato, he presumed. He unlocked the door and then read it as he crossed the room back to his desk. "Hm..." he muttered to himself. "Perhaps it's not so much of a dilemma as I at first thought." Not knowing where Ogato was, though...that would be a problem.
Either way, the best way to send a message was by paper, and it was just convenient that there was a memo pad on his desk. He wrote:
"Ogato- Please excuse my absence, I was out talking with a friend and a fellow Captain. If you wish to talk, simply come to my office whenever you can." --Captain Ryan Feldric"
Before he could tear it off, though, the paper folded itself up into a hell butterfly and flew out the window, to Ryan's light shock. "So that's how it works..." he mused to himself before taking the first piece of paper off of the top of his "In" tray and beginning to work out the end-of-month financial report for his squad.

Ogato was making his way to the training ground when a hell butterfly appeared. He extended out his hand letting it land on his finger, then took the message from it. He quickly scanned threw the message as the butterfly flew away and noticed that it was from Ryan replying to his message.
Once he read it he tossed it in the trash then quickly made his way back to Ryan's office.
He stopped as he approached the door and knocked twice and called out, "Hey Ryan you there?"

Ryan sighed. Signing papers had gotten tiring, but he was glad to find that one of his desk drawers had contained a stamp and an ink pad - the stamp was the emblem of the 6th Division. So, he had gone from signing papers to simply stamping them. The room was thus rife with the soft thud as Ryan stamped papers that needed to be signed. At the knock, though, Ryan looked up from reading over a lengthly document (something about the approval of a small amount of funds to help subsidize an advance force) and listened. Hearing Ogato's voice, he slid his chair - which was on wheels - over to the record player. He pressed a button and it shut off, with the needle arm lifting off the record that had been playing (Elton John's Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy) and then slid his chair back behind the desk, calling out. "Come in, Ogato."
He wondered if Ogato had possibly reconsidered his decision, and if so, Ryan knew he'd be more than happy to reinstate his old vice-captain. It's plain he wants to talk, so let's see what's going on here...

Ogato opened the door then closed it as he casually walked towards Ryan's desk.
Once he was a few feet away from the desk he said, "Hey Ryan I just wanted to apologize for leaving the squad without making sure you had everything you needed. I assumed that you already had a person in mind for second seat so I left but I can see that I was wrong. I hope you didn't take my leave as me being angry with the change in captain or anything I just tend to jump ahead of myself at times. Anyways if your still looking for a vice captain then if you don't mind I'm here to fill in." Ogato finished his sentence with a smile and a short nervous laugh.

Ryan shrugged. "It's all right. I don't know too many people, in fact, I need to get to know my fellow captains better as it is." Looking back at his paperwork, he stamped the one in front of him then placed it on his "out" tray. "As for you returning as vice-captain for now, I don't mind at all. In fact, I don't know of anyone that's of vice caliber at the moment, and I asked two other captains already." He stood up, then extended his hand over his desk for Ogato to shake. "No hard feelings?"

Ogato shook Ryan's hand as he said, "Nope no hard feelings. Well I probably should tell someone in squad one that I'm returning to this squad." Ogato rubbed his head with his left hand thinking of how that would go through.

MockaDash shumpoed to the front of the Captain's Office... He knocked at the door, but didn't wait for an answer before slightly opening the door and sticking his head through it, to take a peek inside... Mock knew about Ryan's recent promotion and wanted to congratulate his former squad friend...
Look at you, Ryan-san!!! A Gotei 13 Captain!!!
May I come in???

Ryan nodded, then looked past Ogato, hearing that all-too-familiar voice. Great. This guy again. Sighing inwardly, Ryan called, taking an acceptance form from his drawer. Damn paperwork... "Yes, you may come in, Mock...and that's Captain Feldric to you, now." Writing down the necessary information on the form and grumbling a bit at the paperwork, he put his stamp where his signature would normally go and put the form in the "out" tray. "No need, that form goes to the higher-ups and then into some file somewhere where it never gets looked at again." Ryan shrugged. "Bureaucracy is such a wonderful thing."

Well then... "Captain Feldric"... Looks like my presence here is disturbing you... MockaDash said in a serious tone, as he fully opened the door and went inside the office... The thing is... I was supposed to contact Captain Tensen earlier, but I was delayed by some paperwork that I needed to attend to, and he already departed...
There was a notice on his office door saying that I should head here and discuss any matter with you... I really don't need to ask you the location of Captain Tansen anymore, since I received a hell butterfly that informed me of his current location...
Since I was already on my way here, I came anyway, in order to congratulate you on your recent promotion... I was kind of hoping you would've changed your ways a bit... But it was foolish of me to think that way...
Mock cleared his throat before continuing Well... It was nice talking to you, "Captain Feldric"... With your permission, I'll take my leave now... Mock bowed slightly, with his head...
Sorry to bother you... Be assured that it won't happen again... Upon finishing those words he shumpoed away, with such speed that it created a vacuum... The movement of the air caused by that vaccum, forced the Office door to shut close...

Before the office door could shut Hayashi was already in the office looking at the Captain. Hayashi waited to be addressed as he figured it rude to speak out of turn. Hayashi had after all already done something a tad rude by entering the office without knocking but he was a little excited about the news he was going to give The Captain.

"Captain Feldric? I though your name was Ryan. Well I don't care that much anyways...", Ogato paused as he picked out some ear wax out of his ear then flicked it. He then continued by saying, "...I should probably work on that office I've been putting off since the transfer. I won't be to far so if you need me then just send me a message."
Ogato turned around and began to walk towards the door. Before he was out the door he said to Ryan, "Before I leave did you need something because I don't mind putting that off till later. Also if you have anything for me to do then I'm going to borrow a squad member to assist me." A voice in Ogato's head began to giggle while whispering to herself, "Because he's to lazy to do it himself." Ogato ignored this as he turned to Hayashi and says, "Hey, how's it going. I hope you didn't think I didn't notice you there or something like that I just get locked on what's on my mind sometimes."

Ryan shrugged. "Yes, my name is Ryan, but...let's just say I don't take a terribly high amount of a liking to that person. Also, I'm used to addressing people by rank and last name if they're of military authority. Either way..." Ryan looked at his papers, then back at Ogato, noticing Hayashi. "Not much to be done as it is, though, let's both see what this person wants. It might have something to do with you." Absent-mindedly, he stamped another paper that he'd put on his desktop, putting it in the "out" tray without thinking, and awaiting what this person that he didn't seem to recognize had to say.
