OK i have noticed something. Bella in the first book is a completely different person in the fourth book.
I mean yes, with the new things happening throughout the series would cause a slight change, its definately understandable, but i think this change is too much.
First off, Bella was mousy and so smart all the time. She was independent and she was strong. But by the fourth book, she was as weak as they come (of course this is before the change), and she was always so dependent on Edward. OK, he's hot and hes the best thing to ever happen to you, but COME ON! It gets so annoying. She has to be with him EVERY second of every day. Does anybody else feel this way?
Is so, do you prefer the Old Bella or the New Bella?

IF YOU HAVEN'T READ BREAKING DAWN DON'T READ MY POST
Yeah, I know EXACTLY what you mean. It's like the differences between her and Edward were WAY enhanced to make them even more obvious, I'm hoping Stephenie Meyer did this for contrast to how Bella would be as a vampire. But I'm not really sure. With Bella having to be around Edward every second of the day, I saw that one too. But she was like that ever since book two, it's an insecurity complex to her character, i suppose, that she worries he'll leave again. What I don't understand is why she started accepting all of his presents like that because they were getting married, sure they would be on equal status soon, but not yet.. I kind of prefer old Bella, she had more of an attitude and was a bit more independent.

My friend and I were actually having this same discussion a week ago. I completely agree. I've noticed it ever since New Moon, since Edward returned to the story. Bella's been getting more...well...boring...with Edward around it seems that she's losing her personality and she depends on Edward so much that it gets really annoying..

YES! I absolutely agree with all of you. Bella has become weak. She used to be a much stronger person.
I really do like the old bella better.

Yes, I know what you mean. I liked the old Bella much more too. This is going to sound weird, but she was MEANER in the first book. She had some spice and personality. Her tongue was sharp at times, and she managed to be quite sarcastic. While there was a whole lot about Edward, it was still not ALL about Edward.
And then after that, it seems like the Twilight series just kinda turned into one big Edward description. Bella just became a narrator for him, ya know?

She used to be so sparky and so "spicy" as you put it. I really loved it when she was more sarcastic, ans just and all-around sharp person. she also seemed smarter. Her independence was greatly shown in the first book, but then it completely disappeared at the end of new moon and on. I also agree with you about it being one big Edward description. You pretty much nailed everything.

I think Bella's always been dependent on Edward, with the exceptions being before they dated and when she was hanging out with Jacob sometimes in New Moon.
I really like new Bella. She kind of happened just when I was beginning to get annoyed with old Bella. Not smart, mousy Bella, but...well, boring Bella. I did feel like she became boring for a little while. Breaking Dawn spiced things up for her a little.

I like the new Bella, and I can't be one to say anything cause I always want to be around my hunny. When i go with my friends or family i miss him, even though i live with him.. But then i never been an indepent person from the begining.

I did feel like she became boring for a little while. Breaking Dawn spiced things up for her a little. Yes, she always has been rather dependent on Edward, and it seems to just intensify. And the Bella in Breaking Dawn, I don't know, I just didn't like. (Possible spoiler action? Might as well mark) SPOILERS For the first part of the book, Bella was just like "Sex please. PLEASE" and she gets it from her godlike Edward and everything is awesome. EVERYTHING is about Edward. Granted, it IS their honeymoon, so I guess I can see a little bit of that. Not much though, she was kinda obsessed. BUT, that was the old Bella. The annoying one, so we have established our feelings on her. Now, when she gets changed, I got even more annoyed with her. She was like "YAY I AM A VAMPIRE! I can be with EDWARD" and then, she kinda got cocky with her vampire-ness. Just the way she described stuff, she acted all superior. yes, she is a vampire and now really awesome, but the way she talked wasn't like the Bella we new before. And even as a vampire. it seemed like a lot of the time, Bella just wanted to sex up Edward. And instead of being amazed that she could resist human blood so easily, she was just kinda like "Oh yay. That's cool. I can see Nessie now. But EDWARD" Now, it DID get better with the addition of Nessie/Jacob imprinting drama/etc. But at the same time, I still felt like I was reading one big Edward description. Ahh, there. I am done biggrin

I see what you're saying, especially about Bella in the beginning of Breaking Dawn. She was such a nympho. It was srsly annoying. Chastity belt for her.
Her being cocky actually didn't bother me too much. I'm used to the Anita Blake series though, which is basically Mary Sue pornography in a novel. I'm glad Bella wasn't that bad, at least.

And that's why, personally, I find Twilight to be the best in the series.
I liked old Bella more than new horny/super cool vamp chick Bella in Breaking Dawn. To be honest, I related to her ALOT that it almost felt like I was reading my own diary ( minus the obsessive Edward parts >__> ) but as the series went on....it was just too much to handle.
That girl had some depression issues and she became too dependable on Edward. By BD, I found her unrecognizable to me.
Bleh, I don't wanna rant too much....

I think ever since the whole New Moon thing Bella has never been the same and became obsessive.
SPOILERS in BD the first part was all Edward but then after Bella changed in the second half he seemed to dissapear into the backround because of Nessie but thats understandable.
