Key to Cocktail Measurements
Our cocktail collection recipes are based on the imperial standard used predominantly in the United States. Here are the international equivalents.
Ounce or Pony
1 oz (ounce) equals 3/4 shot, jigger or pony 1 oz (ounce) equals 3 cl (centiliters) 1 oz (ounce) equals 30 ml (milliliters) 1 oz (ounce) equals 2 tbsp (tablespoons)
Shot or Jigger
1 shot equals 1 1/2 oz (ounces) 1 shot equals 4.5 CL (centiliters) 1 shot equals 45 ml (milliliters) 1 shot equals 3 tbsp (tablespoons)
Cup
1 cup equals 8 oz (ounces) 1 cup equals 24 CL (centiliters) 1 cup equals 240 ml (milliliters)
Bottle
1 bottle equals 750 ml (milliliters)
Dash or Splash
Universal terms for small amounts. There are approximately 36 dashes in one ounce. When a recipe calls for a variable amount of dashes, for example 2 - 4 dashes grenadine, this indicates that you are seasoning to taste. A splash is slightly larger than a dash, but considered to be less and 1/2 oz.
Fill
Usually designated to nonalcoholic mixers, such as juices or sodas. To fill you pour liquid into cocktail glass until it reaches the appropriate watermark.
Float
Universal term for layering 1/4 oz to 1 oz spirit on top of a prepared beverage. Best method is to pour liquor over the back side of a spoon or along rim of glass.
Classic Tequila Shots
1 1/2 oz tequila 1/2 lemon salt
First suck the lemon, place salt on tongue, then swallow tequila.

Tequila Sunrise
1 1/2 oz tequila 3 oz orange juice 1/2 oz cranberry ice
Combine all ingredients in blender with ice. Serve with lemon slice dipped in sugar.

Tequila Mockingbird
1/2 cup unsweetened apple cider 2 oz. tequila 2 oz. black currant-flavored liqueur (Cassis) 2 tsp. fresh lime juice ice
Pour apple cider, tequila, black currant-flavored liqueur and lime juice over ice in a cocktail shaker. Shake well. Pour contents of cocktail shaker, including ice, into 2 old-fashioned glasses and enjoy! Serves 2.

Ruby Rita
35 ml tequila 30 ml pink grapefruit juice 20 ml cointreau
Shake ingredients with ice and strain over fresh ice into a tumbler Garnish with a salt rim and a slice of ruby grapefruit.

Brave Bull
1 1/4 oz Sauza Hornitos tequila 1 1/2 oz Kahlua 1 squeeze lime
Combine in mixing glass filled with ice. Stir and serve in rock glass with ice. Garnish with lime wedge

Tijuana Sling
1 1/4 oz tequila 3/4 oz creme de cassis 3/4 oz fresh lime juice 2 dashes peychard bitters carbonated water
Shake ingredients (except carbonated water) and strain over ice into a 12 ounce collins glass. Top with carbonated water. Garnish with a lime wheel.

Shady Lady
1 1/2 oz tequila 3/4 oz Midori juice of 1 grapefruit
Shake well with ice, strain into rocks glass filled with ice

Birds of Paradise
3/4 oz tequila 3/4 oz white creme de cacao 1/2 oz amaretto 1 oz cream
Shake well with ice, strain into large martini glass.

Tequila Toddy
1 1/2 oz tequila 1/2 oz sugar syrup 4 oz hot water 1 twist lime
In a stemmed mug combine tequila hot water and lime. Add sugar syrup to taste. Garnish with lime peel curl .

Tequonic
2 oz tequila juice of 1/2 lemon or lime fill tonic water
Pour tequila over ice cubes in an old fashioned glass. Add juice, fill with tonic water and stir.

Tequila Sour
2 oz tequila juice of 1/2 lemon 1 tsp powdered sugar
Shake well with cracked ice and strain into 6 ounce sour glass filled with ice cubes. Decorate with a slice of lemon and a cherry.

Acapulco
1 3/4 oz light rum 1/2 oz triple sec 1/2 oz fresh lime juice 1 tsp sugar
Mix ingredients with ice in shaker. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass or serve on the rocks.

Mexicola
2 oz tequila juice of 1/2 lime fill cola
Use a 12 ounce collins glass with cubes of ice. Fill balance with cola and stir gently.

1 1/2 oz tequila 1/2 oz dry vermouth 1 dash bitters (optional)
Stir well with cracked ice and strain into 3 ounce cocktail glass. Serve with twist of lemon peel and an olive.
