As in, not bellydancing music, but another genre one wouldn't expect you danced to. I think we all have probably danced to something that wasn't actually intended to be bellydance music. But sometimes, a few musical numbers you dance to might be quite unexpected.
For me, I always end up practicing to Marilyn Manson after awhile. It's oddly empowering. o_O

I do that a lot when I'm performing within the bellydance community. it can get so old listening to people dance to the same thing over and over again, that it's nice and amusing (for me at least) to throw something new into the mix. I've performed to James Brown and Prince, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Young MC, and other ones that I'm having issues remembering, as I just woke up. After being in the community for ten years, you get tired of hearing the same songs used over and over again. lol

I've danced to Lorenna McKennitt before... she's got some great music!
The oddest thing I've (practice) danced to was a song from an old Clint Eastwood western. It was made in the late 60's. When hubby and I were watching to movie, I couldn't help dancing to the music. rofl

I danced to a hip hop song once because my instructor wanted me to try it. It was ok, the song wasn't that great though.
There is a bellydancer in our town that always dances to Opera. very boisterous opera. its very interesting ^_^ she dances with wings to it so its pretty cool.

thats awesome. but wings i'm sometimes iffy on. there are limited moves, and the dances i see, are all repetitious with spins, barrols, and S's. no dance, just wings.
but every dancer is different. with opera, i want to see biggrin
