August 24th, 2008 Kytora and Ecavi, AIM RP Log Auri and Sharifu
- Auri happily trotted through the small wooded area, silently playing Scavenger with herself. Her keen eyes spotted many things: two branches shaped as a heart, an extremely sparkly rock, and a leaf bonded with its twin in a most unusual way. As entertaining as this game was, she thought, it would be much better if she had someone to play with, too.
Her quick paws took her above a trench with a small stream running through it. She looked down curiously, searching for any small silver fish that could be swimming through it.
- It was not everyday one managed to find good clumps of trees in the Pridelands, and Sharifu had wandered far enough that he'd found one. He wasn't usual off on his own, but he'd been doing so more and more since his meeting with Auri. Since then his mane had grown in, and after the initial itchiness subsided he was very impressed with it- if he did say so himself. Part of his hunt had been for the pale lioness, and he was distracted when he was faced with a change in environment. He walked around, turning his head often as he went- and with one wrong turn, his golden mane very suddenly became tangled in a branch. With a cry between a yelp and a growl, he stumbled toward the tree accidentally before realizing what happened.
"Great," he mumbled, turning his head awkwardly in an attempt to pull free.
- Auri's ears pricked forward a bit at a yelp and an accompanying growl; someone must have gotten on the wrong side of a rather angry lion. Curious and eager to help solve a possible argument in the most peaceful way possible, the gentle lioness quickened her pace and paused her game for another time. She expertly wound through a troublesome patch of interwinding trees before she came across a black lion entwined in a branch. It seems as though his golden mane had gotten caught. The colors seemed familiar...
"I'm sorry, do you need any help?" she asked with a smile.
- Sharifu was almost to the point of ripping out some of his mane in frustration- something he would normally be very reluctant to do- when Auri showed up. Had she not spoken up, he might even have noticed her. He wasn't used to trees and this embarassing display showed it. His whole demeanour immediately changed when he realized someone else was around, and a startled jump to correct his very obvious frustration pulled at his mane the wrong way. Looking over, opening his mouth to respond, he immediately recognized Auri.
And his embarassment doubled.
"I'm fine," he said confidently, turning back to the branch awkwardly to try pulling again to prove it. But it wasn't so easy.
- Auri blinked, widening her smile, and approached anyway. The golden hair was so pretty; she didn't want him to end up tearing it all out. One, that would hurt a lot. Two, he would be missing at least half a mane, and that would not help his confidence nor self-esteem on his physical appearance. Three, she could have sworn that she saw him somewhere before. Normally she was rather good with remembering names and faces, but for some reason this one escaped her.
"It's fine," she said reassuringly. "I get my tail tangled up in so many things. It's horrible." She raised a paw to swipe at the branch holding him hostage, cutting it down.
"It's usually easier (and more comfortable) to have it at an angle you can work with." Her eyes flitted back to his from the branch and they widened instantly. "I do know you! Sharifu, from the other day with the thunderstorm!" Her cheeks reddened but she ignored them, giving him another smile.
- Preoccupied, Sharifu did not immediately notice that Auri did not recognize him straight away. He would have been glad for it if he'd known, but she soon burst that bubble by commenting. Now that he was free and only had an odd branch dangling from his mane, he felt very silly. For one, he'd gotten stuck. For another, he'd been too frustrated to think of breaking the branch instead of pulling his mane. And it wasn't some random stranger helping him, and for some reason that bothered him. He was supposed to impress lionesses, not .. this.
"Auri," he greeted her, then faked a hurt look, "You didn't recognize me? I mean, I know the mane is impressive and all but such an excellent disguise?"
- Auri giggled and sat down, raising a paw to swiftly and--hopefully--painlessly remove the small branch dangling from Sharifu's mane.
"I meet so many new lions," she tried to explain, "that sometimes my memory isn't as good as I boast. It is an excellent addition, though." She patted the mane and grinned at him while she worked. "It makes you look very handsome." Her claws carefully snipped the pieces of bark and branches away from the mane, trying to cut as little of the hair as possible.
"So what are you doing out in this clump of trees, anyway?"
- Sharifu almost flinched when Auri reached up and started removing the tangled branch, but immediately he relaxed and took a seat as well. He laughed, and then beamed when he was called handsome. He was a confident lion, at least when it came to his appearance- though experience and good advice had him making a conscious effort to limit his vanity. Last time he'd seen Auri, his mane had been starting to come in. Full on the top of the head, some blonde strands scattering around his neck.. it had been a little while.
"Thanks," he said finally, turning his head and gaze carefully to check how much branch remained, pleased to find that she had most of it, "I was taking a walk, not many of these all together like this at home." His answer was honest, but left out that he'd been looking for her.
- "Taking a walk? Well, that's good. I was taking my own little walk and could use a companion. I was so bored that I had to play a game all by myself. And that's just sad," she laughed at herself. Finally, after a minute or two of fiddling with the branch, it dropped to the ground in pieces.
"There! I bet that feels better. Sorry that happened. But aren't you glad I showed up?" She gave him a sly wink.
- "What kind of game can you play by yourself?" he asked curiously, standing up once he was completely free of the branch and shaking his mane. Once he was sure he felt a tug at his mane like he was caught on another branch, but it proved to be mostly in his imagination. He offered her a grateful smile, and couple help but grin when she winked at him. This was exactly why Sharifu had been looking for her, she was quite the lioness to be around.
"Yes, I'm very grateful," he said.
- "No game, really," she laughed again. "I was playing the Scavenger game, where you look around and try to find something different, something out of the ordinary. I saw two branches shaped like a heart earlier." She playfully shied away after he shook his mane a good time or two. Auri bet he was glad to have that nasty branch out of his hair--literally. She couldn't imagine walking around with such a thing weighing on her neck. It looked so very heavy and bothersome.
"You should be grateful," she nodded solemnly at him, though a corner of her mouth twitched upwards in another smile. She couldn't help but play around with him.

- "Something out of the ordinary?" he repeated with a small chuckle, watching her- and sticking out his tongue childishly when she said he should be grateful. He moved on from that quickly, though, very interested in seeing how this game played out- and keen to join in, or try to, "I bet finding a lion stuck to a tree was very unusual, do you suppose we can top that?"
- She stood, absently brushing spare leaves off her fur. "Yes, something unique. It's so easy to become bored very quickly out here, so I have to do something in order to keep sane." Her eyes twinkled. "Yes, that was very unusual. And I'm not sure if we could find something to top that, though I'm game to try if you are."
- "OK," he agreed with a competitive grin and a quick glance around, "Are we going to look together or do you want to see who can find the best something-unique?" Now his gaze settled back on Auri thoughtfully, he was up for either- but she would be at an advantage in a competition where she was smaller, knew the area better and did not have a mane that could get tangled so easily. He was sure he would not let that happen again, though!
- She shrugged. "Either one is fine, though I think I would win. Seeing as if we don't find anything that tops a lion tangled in a branch because of his newly grown mane, I win." She gave a devilish grin in his direction, turning and hopping a few feet away. "Team mates or rivals, then?"
- "Oh no," he said, sounding very serious and shaking his head, "That sounded like a challenge to me! I can't just ignore that." Sharifu grinned and stepped back as well, careful only to brush against the tree branches this time instead of outright tangling, "We'll meet back here, whoever has the most unique NEW thing to show off.. wins. OK?"
- "Sounds like a plan." She trotted off with an easy pace, not looking back. "Only, when you get tangled again, just be sure to yell really loud so I can hear you!" she called back over her shoulder teasingly. Now, to find something of interest that would beat Sharifu's...hm..She looked at both sides as she walked, trying to find something at least decent that she hadn't spotted before, when she had been playing the game earlier. For one, if she found something, at least, she could fall back on it if she couldn't find anything better.
- "Yeah, ok," he called back sarcastically, and he too turned right around to go off in search of something interesting. He had to think creatively, not necessarily a strong point of his, if he wanted to beat Auri. She knew the area better, she had an advantage. But at least she'd already mentioned the heart shaped branches or whatever, she couldn't bring that anyway by the sounds of it. Deciding he was best off ducking low, he put his head down and employed the use of his nose in the hunt. Something good, something interesting..
- Her brow twitched in concentration as her paws turned over rock after rock, searching for a hidden treasure on the bottom or underneath. When that plan failed, she tore away and wound through the trees, searching for the stream she had come across earlier. The sound of rushing water guided her west and she happily followed the sound, almost splashing into the water itself. Small fish scattered at her approach, her average paws looking giant to their tiny eyes and brains. Auri splashed through as quietly as she could, watching where she stepped for the most part while her eyes swept the surface and tried to see through the water for what might lay underneath. Seconds later, something pointy and sharp--and painful--pricked the underside of her paw. "Ow!" she cried, stepping back and looking for whatever it had been that caught her off guard.
- Not already knowing about the stream, Sharifu had become very interested in investigating the sound of water when he heard it. He was careful and slow weaving through the trees, but he made it to the stream- not too far from Auri but far enough that he did not notice she was also by it not far beyond a bend in the stream. He looked around, his nose coming very close to the water as he tried to see his reflection to the rather shiny stones that lay beneath the water. He was just about to try to pull one out of the water when he heard Auri cry out, and not too far away. He lifted his head and looked off towards her, hesitating in hopes that it might be the only cry and that she was actually OK. But he wasn't completely unworried, and walking by the edge of the water (which proved much easier, due to a lack of branches) he jogged towards her.
- "Stupid, silly thing," she grumbled under her breath, along with a good string of unnecessary words afterwards. Auri glared at the 'thing' in question, which was actually something human made. The rock was carved in the shape of a crude arrow, but the point was painfully sharp--she knew. The water washed the small trickle of blood away, and the coldness helped numb it so she didn't feel much from the p***k. There was a small bit of leather tied around the bottom, hooked onto the curves and fit snugly. She wondered what it had gone to, or what it had been attached to. What did the two-leggers do with such a thing, anyway? Splashing reached her ears and she turned her head to see Sharifu walking around the bend easily. "Oh, why hello rival. Find anything yet?"
- Sharifu was glad to see her standing there by the water, but still wondered what had caused her to cry out. Seems both of them were getting hurt in this little game, but at least whatever had got her she was able to recover from independently. He smirked at her when she called out to him, shaking his head, "No, but I heard you call out. I wanted to make sure you were OK." He looked her up and down to prove his point, and also with the intention of seeing whatever had caused her to call out. This 'thing', as she had called it, was intriguing enough but if she used it for the game he wanted to know what he was up against.
- "Aw, you're so sweet," she teased. "Are you sure you didn't just want to see this?" She moved out of the way, revealing the arrow lying on a rock before her. She didn't trust herself to carry it through the woods in her mouth (she need her tongue and gums in one piece, thank you), and she wasn't entirely sure that she was going to use this for their competition. But she had the good idea to anyway. It was a very unique piece, after all. "It's got a bit of leather on it, too. I might make it into a necklace or something later, if I keep it. Have to dull it though. It's a sharp little thing. I stepped on it in the river," she laughed. "That's why I called out. I'm fine, though. The cold water stopped the bleeding and it's numb, so I don't feel anything now." She shook her paw to show him.
- He pretended to look offended when she accused him of trying to catch a glimpse of whatever had hurt her, going for the cheating implications of the comment rather than just the curiosity. However, when she moved, he moved closer in an effort to get a better look. He hadn't really seen anything quite like that before, and he was very interested. His nose wrinkled and he looked back and forth from the arrow to Auri and to her paw.
"Well, it's good that you're alright," he mumbled, looking back at the arrow, "It's a funny looking thing though, isn't it?"
- "Thanks," she returned with a small smile before looking back down at the stream while she left the arrow rock on its resting place. "It is pretty funny looking, though. I think it's something the two-leggers made or something like that." She nudged one of the many smooth river rocks from the bottom of the stream off to the bank to look at it better. Disappointed, she shoved it back under the water and continued looking.
- "So the game's still on, eh?" he said when he noticed her going right back into the search, noticing that she too was admiring the shiny stones under the water. Her reaction was enough to tell him, though, that it was not worth looking more into since she didn't seem to interested in it. Unless he managed to find something particularly amazing from under the water, he would have to broaden his search. With a quiet grunt, he turned back around to head in the direction he had come from. Must find something..
- Auri couldn't help but watch as Sharifu left from the corner of her eye, smiling as his tail waved from side to side as he walked away. He really was a nice lion. Good intentions, sense of humor (always a plus--if not a necessity--in her book). She was half tempted to call it a day but decided to wait until her friend found something of his own. At least he would have that pride in finding something. Her paws turned up more worthless rocks, as smooth as they were. A couple of particular shiny ones were scooped off to the side of the arrow rock, but she didn't pay anything else much mind.
- Sharifu had to think carefully, but even good and optimistic ideas didn't help if you couldn't actually find anything. Instead he had to think more creatively if he wanted to even pick something out. After some searching, he realized he wasn't about to find anything good- and he didn't want to keep Auri waiting long. And as tempting as it was to just run away, he couldn't do that to her either- that would be very rude, and he rather liked her. Pausing, he looked around one last time determined to pick something. His eyes settled on a rather bright rose, in a rather shady spot by a tree. The sun must have been able to get to it at certain times of day, he decided. Girls liked flowers, this was his best bet.
So he grabbed the rose in his mouth, pulling it free as best he could without damaging the blossom. Then he headed back for where he said they would meet.
- Auri gave a final sigh and finally gave up her useless search for something more interesting than the arrow rock. As painful as it was, this was the best thing she had been able to find, not including the ones she had spotted earlier (although she was kind of fond of this rock, now). She gently scooted the shiny rocks she had put off to the side back into the stream, back to where they would wait for someone else to find and cherish. The lioness also decided to wait until Sharifu returned to where she was, because she didn't want to risk injury in carrying the rock. And he knew where she was. She didn't think he'd take too much longer to try and find something good for the game. She wondered what he did find, though, as she heard his footsteps coming closer.
- Rounding back towards the stream once he realized Auri wasn't at their original spot, Sharifu realized he had no way to hide the flower and would immediately be forced to defend his choice. Ah well, he had good, logical reasons! If she found anything more interesting than the pointy two-legger thing then he was going to lose no matter what. So deciding bold was the best way to approach this, he jogged confidently closer- and when he saw Auri, he didn't hesitate in walking up and setting the flower down at her paws. "There."

August 27th, 2008 Kytora and Ecavi, AIM RP Log Auri and Sharifu
- Auri couldn't help but give a warm smile at seeing the rose laid at her feet. It was such a sweet gesture! Well, actually, it wasn't really a gesture, she reminded herself. It was his thing for the game. Of course. Not for her. For the game. But every time she looked at it, she still couldn't help but smile. "That's a very pretty rose, I've never seen one so red before." Now, how to judge the winner? As she thought, an idea came into her head. Problem was, she couldn't really act it out now, but at least it would give her an excuse to meet him again. Or, rather, search for him.
- "I thought you'd like it," he said with a self-satisfied smile, though his words gave the impression he had not necessarily aimed to win their little game. However, he was still thinking about the game- not necessarily about winning but wondering if she'd found anything else that would be more interesting. Only one way to find out, so he asked, "What did you find for the contest?"
- "Just the arrow rock," she smiled sheepishly and nudged it forward carefully, next to the rose. "It's hot outside and I'm too lazy. And I couldn't find anything better, so this seemed like a good idea." Auri shrugged and smiled again. Although she was glad to have technically won the contest (she was quite the sore loser, and no one liked a sore loser), the idea that had popped into her head made her want to say...something more. But she couldn't find the words, exactly. "What do you think we should do now?"
- "Just the arrow rock," he mimicked, and he laughed- especially when she said she'd been too lazy to go find something else. Either way, she'd won but it was funny to hear her admit something like that. Pretending to look wounded at his loss, he sighed deeply and a bit over-dramatically, "I guess you've won, hard to beat something so weird with just a flower." He looked down at the flower and the arrow, smiling again. He had no idea what came next, but he had a way to avoid deciding himself at least. He looked back up at her.
"Well, you won so I'd say it's your choice," he said, "How do you want to celebrate your victory?"
- "How to celebrate?" she repeated, now thoughtful. She didn't think they could celebrate a victory as trivial as this, though it might be fun nonetheless. Eyeing the rose at her feet, she hesitantly asked, "Can I keep the flower?" She would probably put it on her shelf back home, and even if it dried up, she knew a trick from her grandmother, Tana, that would still preserve it: flatten it between two rocks. Then it was still pretty (though she'd probably have to do that before it dried up and got all brown and gross and didn't smell very good anymore...) and she'd have it for a long time. She loved flowers. It was probably one of the most girly things about Auri. "I'll put the arrowhead in a safe place, like a trophy case, and you're always welcome to come see it," she laughed. "I have the perfect little shelf in my den."
It was actually getting pretty late, but Auri wanted to spend more time with Sharifu. He was fun to be around and she enjoyed talking with him and flirting back to him. And he was a very nice lion, she reminded herself. Handsome, too. Which was certainly a plus.
- Sharifu looked surprised by her request to keep the flower, but it made him smile. He might not have won their contest, but something about it still felt to him like he had won. He nodded and nudged the flower closer to her with a paw and making a special note of a seeming fondness for flowers. It was something he would have to make use of in the future, though just why making that kind of plan was so important to him didn't even cross his mind. Auri had to be his best friend, and that much was all that mattered.
"Take the flower, make your trophy shelf," he said, pulling another sarcastic-wounded face, "I better go tend to my bruised ego."
- "Awwwww, Sharifu, I'm just teasing." She instinctively stood up and moved a bit closer, about to nuzzle him in reassurance before she caught herself. Her cheeks reddened a bit at the realization of what she had been about to do, but actually...she didn't feel like doing such a thing would be bad. Her sudden pause was pushed forward and she stepped over the rose and sharp (pointy, painful, hurting) arrow rock and gently brushed her head against his poofy mane. Oh, it was poofy. And very, very soft. And it hid her blush from him. And it was very, very soft. She was amazed that a boy could have softer hair than she, a girl. Though she felt no envy. As his friend, she could touch it any time she wanted, probably. Not that she thought he would mind. He was a boy; he liked attention. Or so she thought. Or so she hoped, rather.
- "No, no, you win," he said, still joking but rather enjoying himself- especially when she got up and moved closer. So little conscious thought seemed to be going into this little conversation now, it would have been quite amusing if he had time to think about it and laugh- but instead he had to react. He didn't really get a chance for she brushed against him, and he was lucky to be so dark for he didn't need to turn away when he reddened. The gesture seemed enough to stop the joking around, and instead he stumbled back and grinned.
"I'll get you next time," he said confidently, winking, "Just you wait." - "Oh, you'll get me next time, huh?" she chuckled, quickly backing up as well though careful to not harm the contest entries behind her. "Well, I'll just have to wait and see then, and hope that I'll be able to beat you again." Her voice was teasing. She loved being able to do this. Whenever she poked fun at one of her family members, they either waved her away or got very angry or hurt at her words. It was confusing and boring at home. "Actually, we'll have to do that sometime soon, though. It's getting pretty late. I should go home before my family comes searching for me." She rolled her eyes. Yeah, right. Like they would do something like that.
- "You betcha," he said, puffing up confidently- only to deflate when she said she'd better get going. However, he immediately tried to look on the bright side and instead of grinned. "Good, good. Planning starts immediately- I'll see you another time." With a shifty look around, he hopped forward- nudging her on his way by and headed off to figure something out so it wasn't just big talk.
- As he nudged her, she thought he was going to turn around and say something more, but he actually kept walking. Blinking in surprise, but not hurt by the lack of farewell in the least, Auri shook her head and picked up her prizes. She was glad he had agreed for her to keep the rose; it was a very pretty flower, after all. The arrow rock was held carefully between her teeth as she jogged up a small slope from the river's bank and towards home. The day had turned out to be interesting. She was glad they had met up again.
