The forest was dark, even on this, the brightest day of the summer. No light penetrated its thick branches and made even the most seasoned wanderer cringe. Plants grew in heaps all around; even ten-times larger than the average plants. Rees completely loved it. On the foxtaur island, he'd never seen such a thing. The plushness of the island that his cervitaur friend lived on was astounding. His hair swayed in the stale breeze blowing through, exposing the horrid scars on his jugular.
Smiling contently, he walked on the trodden path with a basket under his arm, laden with random fruits and vegetables. Tonight was stew night and if he could find a pot in an abandoned hut, then he might actually get to cook it for once.

His leg screamed in pain and cramps raced through the muscles. Ulric cursed under his breath with each step, forcing himself not to limp like a helpless pup. He had been forced onto the main road, the brush too thick for a wounded leg, traveling slowly in full veiw of anyone on that god forsaken island. Ulric argueed with himself angrily, questioning his motive for coming in the first place and why the hell did he had to pick a fight with the biggest cervitaur on the entire island. "Just a little bit further Ulric." He told himself this over and over until finally, his leg gave out. Dirt and gravel dug into his open wounds; dust gladly joining the beating by blinding him. Ulric spat curses and sand intil he felt there were no more air in his lungs. "Good going dumb a**."

Rees spotted something of the purple-ish native further up, hobbling around a bit and reason told him that it was a cervitaur. After all, it was their island and this was their road. As he neared, he prepared to give whoever it was the right away, not wanting to seem rude in the least, until he saw the pointed ears. " Unusual..." Rees murmured, then looked at the fox tail. Another one of his kind and injured, none the less.
Dropping his wears, Rees kicked it into high gear and ran over to his fallen brethren. Grabbing the males arm, he slung it over his shoulder as he slipped his arm around the mans waist. " Don't fret, friend. Help has arrived. " Being careful not to jostle the foxtaur too much, Rees slowly stood up and looked around. He didn't see any sign of shelter and couldn't even catch the crisp, cool scent of water, which worried him.

Ulric sucked breath in sharply in suprise, which unsprisinly hurt his bruised ribs. A low growl rumbled in his throat, the fiercess replaced with a pained weezing. "I got this okay!? Just a little trip is all." He wiggeld himself free, wincing as his body weight fell on his injuired leg. Casually dusting himself off, he looked back at the younger foxtaur. "And another thing, you can't just rush off to help people. You'll get yourself killed kid." Yeah, he should really take advice from us because we really know how to keep ourselves alive and unharmed. He took one step away, clumbsily tripping over his own legs. We are just too cool right nowA thought passed through Ulric's thick head. "What are you doing out here anyway?"

Rees stood back, giving the injured foxtaur enough berth to feel independent but yet close enough so that he could help him at a moments notice. He smiled serenely at the way the other was acting, laughing a little to himself at the sheer foolishness of his bravado. " I'll keep that advice with me always. "
Shaking his head from side to side, Rees went back to where he dropped his food and gathered up what bit of it wasn't bruised or destroyed. He trotted back with the never chaning calmness surrounding him like a glove. " I think the more pressing question is how did you get those wounds? Their quite impressive. "

Ulric laughed under his breath. "I've had worse. This is just from a little scuffle." His eyes never left the way-too-calm foxtaur. "Now back to my question. Where are you going kid?" Ulric picked rocks out from his palms, slinging his pack over his also bruised shoulder. He was ready to be on his way but didn't want the kid to presume he was rushing to lick his wounds. And for some odd reason, he felt inclined to make sure this perticular foxtaur wouldn't be jumped buy his old cervitaur buddies.

Rees managed not to roll his eyes. Oh yes, it was obvious this foxtaur was a trouble maker but that didn't bother him in the least. He liked the company of his own kind. It reminded him of the close knit tribes of his homeland and made him feel warm on the inside. " Here, there and yonder, but more recently, an inn. I'm looking for someplace to stay for the night and since you came from further up the path, I'm thinking about turning back. " He grinned devilishly, then nodded to the path with his head.
" Come on, then. You're bunking with me tonight. "

Ulric shrugged. "Okay kid, if you need me there to hold your hand." He smurked, throwing a thumg to his right. "About three miles down the trail there should be an inn. A private party but that don't matter much." Ulric looked back at his companion with a sly look in his eye.

Rees smirked and hitched his basket up higher. " Lead the way, o' fearless leader. " I need to interact with more foxtaurs, he thought to himself as he studied this newcomer in his life. Cervitaurs only looked down on him when he pulled stunts, which was few and far inbetween, and on most causes they didn't need an excuse to sneer at him. His scars allowed them all the reason they needed to exclude him from a semi-normal life.
" If you don't find it rude by asking, what is your name? I'd like to know it, incase I need to rat you out to anyone, " Rees grinned.

Ulric's deep laugh echo'ed in the thick forest. "No need to rat me out here kid, I'm pretty much blamed for bad weather. But, since you will need my name when telling stories of how amazing I was, it is Ulric." He continued to walk ahead, waving behind him. "I dont care much to learn names. Hurry up Kid. I'm crippled and I'm leavin' you behind."

" When I see you do something besides blow hot air, I'll be sure to announce it to the villagers as a miracle. " He trotted up to Ulric's side, staying a bit behind out of politeness. " So, Ulric, indulge me. What exactly are you doing here? You're a long ways away from home and it doesn't look like you've come visiting friends. "
The wind started to pick up in the forest, knocking Rees' long hair back into his face. It reeked of storm and made the foxtaur shiver. He preferred to stay dry during rain, but since he didn't know where he was going, he allowed Ulric to take the lead and become alpha of their little group.

"That would be somewhat of a miracle. Keep wishing and I might preform one for you." Ulric reached back and grabbed the kids forearm, pulling him to where they were walking side by side. "Actually, I was visiting a friend. Got here a little too late though." Ulric smiled wainly. "But focus on the now! You don't mind a little rain do you kid?"

" An old friend? " Rees frowned a bit, absently holding his forearm closer to his body so he wouldn't be touched again. " I'm sorry for your loss. It truly is horrible to be away from a good friend. " He looked up at the sky in quiet comtemplation. From what could be seen of it through the thick trees, it had begun to darken into a deep black color as the clouds rolled by.
Sighing heavily, Rees all but grumbled, " I don't mind it but if there was anyway I could avoid it, I would. Don't tell me; we're going to be walking for a while." He looked over to Ulric, hoping his assumption wasn't correct.

"I do not morn him, he lived a good life. But I'm sorry if you have to get wet kid, we still have walking to do." Ulric tightened the staps on his pack and hugged himself. His limbs cried to rest but he wasn't going to show any sign of weakness to the kid.

Grumbling a bit, Rees held his face away from the wind as it whipped his hair around, slapping him in the face with the force of a paddle covered in needles. If there was one thing he would admit to hating, it was storms and there was no way in hell he was going to walk through one.
Without a moments noticed, Rees flopped down onto the path, tucking his legs underneath him. " I'll meet you when the storms over. " He sat his basket of food infront of his paws and crossed his arms over his chest.
